A quick note on the wobbufet soft lock. That's one of the reasons wobbufet was initially banned in Gen 4.

They actually fixed it though, by making Struggle deal fixed recoil (always a quarter of the user’s max HP) They also made it so that Shadow Tag fails to work if there’s another Shadow Tag user on the field

This isn't correct. Wobbufet was banned from Smogon Singles because it's just insanely hard to deal with in Gen 4. Shadow Tag is an inherently broken ability. It was banned quickly because people had already worked this out from gen 3. Even in Gen 9 shadow tag is still banned in OU. It's less problematic in Ubers because most mons have the power to not actually care about Wobbufet. The actual clause that Wobbufet's struggle softlock caused was in gen 3 ubers and gen 3 VGC. In both formats Wobbufet is/was banned from using leftovers.

Don't forget the infamous Foppa softlock where you trade a finneon for a German Magikarp in the water route near the Survival Area. If you only have Finneon with surf, no rods, no pokeballs and saved, you are only left with a low level magikarp with no way to evolve it since you can't fish up pokemon

I much prefer his softlocks because he has transitioned to do more stuff that is TECHNICALLY not a softlock, but the amount of time it would take to escape the situation is so stupid that you're better off just resetting the game anyway. I would say it is worse than being softlocked because it gives people false hope of a way to salvage the save file. Not to mention the scenarios are so complicated that nobody would do them by accident, meaning you would only do this to mess with a friend

One thing to note about the Lorelei softlock is that you can escape to the Center if you Gen 1 miss (1/256 chance on "100% accurate moves", due to how the game checks accuracy) all 20 of Rage's PP. Pikasprey touches on this in his video, so I figured I'd bring it up here.

You could softlock yourself in HGSS if you used a cheat code to get all tms and hms. The moment you progressed in the story and an npc had to give you a tm you couldn't take it because you already had it. It would send the npc in a tailspin and you'd be trapped forever

I think for the bdsp stunky soft lock you have to go to the grand underground(a necessary item to progress up to that point) and white out. You should return to the last pokecenter.

There's one in Hoenn (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) you didn't mention. Beat Norman but before talking to Wally's dad to get HM03 Surf, use Teleport (Abra/Kadabra) to return to Dewford. As the Captain is no longer available, you will be stuck on Dewford and unable to progress, this soft locking the game.

I had two shiny Pokémon at the same time in double battle before. Wasn’t the same species, but one used explosion and took both out before I could catch it. It’s not a soft lock, but still a pain. In legends Arceus I was trying to catch a Pokémon that’s in the water, from the bank. Ended up being knocked in by a beautifly…and warped out just to be on the Pokémon, unable to move, and knocked into the water over and over till I whited out.

There is also a burglar in Pokémon Mansion in gen 1 that, when you engage the fight on a certain tile, he will block the way a table and a wall. If you safe, he will be be blocking the path untill you get out of the building, which is very problematic if you don't have an escape rope or dig, both being very realistic in a gen 1 game. Your only option is to faint yourself against wild Pokémon, which can take an enormous amount of time depending on your team. While your not stuck forever, it is very easy to accomplish, even by accident and I bet thousands of people have gotten stuck that way in the past.

There was a softlock in an update of Pokemon legends arceus. You could catch cresselia before the encounter cutscene, but then the story was waiting for you to catch the Pokemon you already caught and wouldn't progress the story. Happened to me. Took a few weeks for the next update to patch it.

As a hardcore pokemon go player I can confirm incubators do not take up bag space so there is no "Max storage" for them there might be a cap of 999 incubators (unconfrimed) but if so I assume at that point you will probably be prevented from bying more or there might just be not limit

In Number 1, the Double Shiny softlock, you mentioned that a Shiny Charm increases your odds of getting this softlock. That isn't possible. The Shiny Charm didn't exist until Black 2 and White 2. Even then, you need a complete National Pokédex and be in the post-game to even obtain it.

The RB Pokedex Softlock isn't Japanese Exclusive. I've had it occur on English during my Randomiser Speedrun Challenges. The BDSP softlock for the Snowballs was patched in 1.1 along with the ability to skip the Gym Puzzle due to the diagonal movement.

15:55 you can escape this by loading up a "backup save." When the title screen appears, hold up (d-pad), B, and X. this brings up a menu that will a let you start on the save file BEFORE your current save file. example, if my save file put me in front of a building, and i released my shiny suicune by accident, and i walked into a building (prompting an autosave), i could get the suicune back by using the button input combination that i mentioned.

I had one of the weirdest softlocks ever. My friend had a Japanese copy of yellow back in 1998. Just for kicks, we tried trading, and strangely it worked, but the route 1 Pidgey he sent me transfered over as a glitched name Gastly. I got to Lavender Town, but every time I left the town it would start a "wild Pokémon" battle, but it was a battle with Blue. Whether winning or losing, the game would just softlock after with a long continuous tone. I had to send my game to Nintendo. They sent me a brand new copy, and had to start all over.

Actually the Go softlock is no longer possible. This is because A) You can always receive items regardless of if your bag space is full if you are spinning a gym for a free raid pass. B) Now that gifts can be opened for stardust, adding a friend and opening a gift can still give the player an egg regardless of if their bag or Pokémon storage is full.

15:00 it is in fact possible to get items from raid battles despite full inventory. But it will not give you any balls. The weekly rewards on the other hand will give you balls without spinning stops, so that you would be soft locked for a week max. Also it is possible to get rid of items by throwing them away. And I am not even sure if eggs contrivute to the bag space, I think they contribute to the Pikemon space instead. So this is not a soft lock at all.

Yeah, the Pokémon Go one would be able to be gotten out of exactly as you hinted at. Even if you have a full bag, you can still spin a gym for you daily free raid pass and it will work. On my one account, I was about 400 items over bag capacity because all I used that account for was raids. And both raid rewards and spinning for the daily free raid pass ignore the inventory space. That said, I am out of eggs on that account most of the time. With only one possible PokéStop spin per day, it isn't guaranteed you'll get an egg. And it would definitely be annoying to try to grind through those incubators to a point where you could play the game "normally" again.

I think the closest thing to a soft lock I've ever experienced happened a few weeks ago while I was playing Pokemon Violet. I was trying to auto battle a Vaporeon in area zero. It was so determined to escape that it jumped off a waterfall. I fell after it and got trapped between a rock and a hard to while breaking my own limbs. I got out though.

For anyone wondering how there is footage of the first softlock, Dobbs probably misspoke and said "shiny charm" instead of "cute charm" which is a glitch that makes your shiny rate like 21.34% if your TID and SID are close in value and you have a Cute Charm Pokemon in your front slot. This will force a lot of shiny Pokemon to appear which makes this softlock pretty easy to come across if you do have Cute Charm set up For the second one, it is TECHNICALLY not a softlock for a few reasons. One, the 1/256 glitch means Rage has a chance to miss, meaning you could technically escape if you miss rage however many times for the number of PP it has in a ow. Likewise, if you have any of the fishing rods you can fish in her room encounter a Pokemon and hope for Rage to miss or get knocked out if you have better than the Old Rod and escape that way (bypassing needing it to miss consecutively). And even though the rods are optional items, most players pick up at least one of the rods in a playthrough. This is why I like Pikasprey because he shows "softlocks" where they technically aren't a true lock, but the method of escape is so terrible you are better off resetting the game than trying to escape it. I will say I find it interesting how you found a way to softlock yourself in the first generation with reusable TMs. That's like the one thing that makes a Gen 5 and beyond softlock near impossible. I don't get how the B2W2 one is a softlock. A softlock is something where your game is put in an unplayable state where you're unable to make progress. The thing is you can still escape Victory Road and go back to the rest of Unova with this one right? And there is still post game content to do afterward so it isn't much of a softlock except for any N content but that isn't much.

Let's not forget that while you can escape that Lorelei softlock due to the 1/256 glitch, you still would have to hit that 1/256 chance a minimum of 20 times in a row, and that's not including the fact that you can raise Rage's power points. Even at just 20 times though, the odds are so impossibly small that even all of us humans on the planet attempting to get it to happen for the rest of our lives would probably never get it to happen even a single time, let alone if it was maxed out which I think is 32 power points. Needless to say, we'd all be better off just trying to do literally anything else than trying to escape that softlock.

One softlock, that I couldn't find to be documented anywhere on the web is in Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I managed to somehow get myself stuck with 15 badges and never was able to get the 16th badge. I don't know exactly how I managed to get the guy in front of the 16th Gym to never move, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's because I did the 7th badge (the one one Cinnabar Island) first and then completed the other 6 Kanto badges. Yes, I know, it's not a true soft-lock, as I was still able to do everything else in the game, but I technically wasn't able to complete it. Had to reset my entire save file, but in a second playthough I did all the badges in order and didn't encounter that bug, soo.... yeah...

#12 If you got no free pass as long as you don't go for a raid active gym, you can spin it, get a free pass and items despite space. This was added to encourage raids, but becomes a bit of an oversight but number of items depends on your level on said gym and if it's your team's. A low level gym doesn't give many items and can still leave you unable to catch much or anything. You'd have to use up an incubator if you ain't lucky.

in pokemon go, you can spin the gym disk with a full inventory if you don't have the daily raid pass already to get a daily raid pass so you can still get an egg there. or you can open gifts for eggs now that you can open gifts with full inventory.

In POGO you still get items for raids with a full bag and you can Get 7k eggs from gifts since they made it that you can open gifts for no items I think that works

Pokemon Go one will not get soft locked..... just buy more bag space🙂😂, also eggs can be recieved from raid battles, which stacks over the max bag limit

I think there's also a aoftlock with castform, in ruby and omega there's like a way to activate two weather conditions at the same time with a glitch and if you do that and send out castform it will keep changing forms forever and the battle will be softlocked until you reset the game

you actually activate all weather conditions at once and it's called acid rain because it damages most pokemon despite looking like rain

OMG I have one of those cursed white two copies, I remember having that glitch happened to me and I was so confused why the zoroark wasn't moving. I just kept going on about my business never getting two N's castle in that save file. I was a young kid when it happened, and didn't exactly have the internet to tell me what the problem was.

i love the one in sinnoh where the guy on the island on route 226, who wants to trade his magikarp for your finneon. if you arrive to that island with only finneon on your party, as your surfer (or no pokemon that can learn surf/fly/teleport), no fishing rod and no rare candies, and you trade the finneon, thats it. you're stuck on the island since the karp cant learn surf, cant lv up with rare candies or fish to encounter something you can catch that gets surf, or battle to evolve the karp XD

Its interesting in Gen III you can make wobbuffet battles endless but it has been changed in a few ways to make this not possible anymore. In Gen IV Leftovers and Struggle were changed as well as Shadow Tag users being immune to other Shadow Tag Pokemon. They also made it so Ghost types are immune to it in Generation VI. Definitely a good changes

There are several ways to get eggs with the Pokemon Go softlock. First method is spinning a gym to get a free raid pass (only doable once a day and in my experience, there's a chance the game will give you a free raid pass before you spin). The second method is opening gifts (won't get any items, but should be able to get 7k eggs/stardust). Third method is weekly walk distance rewards (long enough distances can get you an egg). Fourth method is getting an egg from a Team Go Rocket leader (may need to purchase the Rocket Radars though). Fifth method is waiting for an increase in the item space maximum limit. It's possible that I'm still missing a method, but I think this would be all of them.
