Groudon wasn't scared for itself. When it was angry, it wasn't scared. It only became scared when it got close to the trainer, meaning it was scared of the cliff because you (the trainer) could fall and die.

I Groudon is afraid of the cliff, it's likely because at the bottom, there's nothing but water. That is a TRUE soft lock. What makes something a soft lock is the ability to restart. I suppose it's on the softer side, since if you've already saved, you can restart from that save point. Then again, maybe I'm just used to the Mario Maker definition of a soft lock.

Yeah that's what a soft lock means in pokemon too. A hard lock means that not even resetting the game would help and you have to delete the save file.

A Softlock is a state where the game is playing normally. Sound is working, npcs moving, in the game's logic nothing is technically wrong, but the game is in a state where it cannot progress. I.E Stuck in a wall, or stuck on an island with no way to escape. Both are Softlocks, as both games are in states where the game is *running* but the player cannot do anything, cannot take actions to get themselves free from the state they are in. Soft, because the game is running, but not playable. Not Dev intended, but the game thinks it's fine. A Hardlock is a proper crash, sound broken, horrifically glitched in important processes. I.E removing the cartridge while playing, or doing something with one of the more volatile Glitch Pokémon. The game is hard stuck, sound is not functioning, the game is not working on all fronts. Not Dev intended, and the game does *not* think it's fine, either.

No it isn't! A hardlock is _either_ when the game crashes and can no longer be interacted with until closed and reloaded _or_ when you get into a situation in which it becomes impossible to progress further even if you restart the console and reload, forcing you to delete your previous progress. Being glitched into Oak's window doesn't meet either definition. The game is still running even though you're stuck in the wall, and you can escape and continue progressing by reloading the game.

Ok but, the lvl 1 Electrode *isn't* possible b/c the level 1 Pikachu isn't possible. The lowest level Pikachu you can get in gen 1 is level 3. And you can't trade one in from gen 2 b/c 1) Pichu now exists and 2) level 5 is the lowest level an egg hatches at. Level 1 pokemon from breeding wasn't a thing till, gen IV. And Fire Red/Leaf Green was gen 3. And there's no breeding in Let's Go and that trade is gone from Let's Go. So no. In the base games it is NOT possible as the level 1 Pikachu you need for it is impossible to obtain outside of hacking. You could get a level 3 one tho. I remember playing Blue and doing the trade and being baffled that I got such a low level Electrode lol

Technically, you can't get a level 1 Electrode without hacking the game. Since breeding doesn't exist in Gen 1, and the lowest level that Pikachu can spawn as is Level 3. And even if breeding did exist, it would be level 5 at hatch, since they didn't change that to level 1 until Gen 4, two generations after eggs were introduced.

If you have a level 1 Raichu it can be traded for a level 1 Electrode. The problem is that in RB, you are unable to legitimately get any pokemon let alone Raichu at level 1. The lowest level you can find Pikachu is level 3, so that is the lowest level electrode you can get is level 3. In FRLG you can actually breed pokemon, so maybe you could get one at a lower level there? Nope in those games pokemon hatch at level 5 and even if they did hatch at level 1 like later games, it would be a Pichu first which needs at least a single level up before becoming a Pikachu. So the lowest level possible is still 3. In all other iterations of Kanto this trade is unavailable.

As far as I can remember, it isn't possible to get a lv 1 Pokémon in the games of Red en Blue. There weren't any in the wild. Breeding wasn't possible in that generation yet. Heck, in the second generation Pokémon hatched at lv 5. Which always made me wonder back then how it was possible for there to be Pokémon in the wild at lv 2. All I'm trying to say, you can't get an Electrode at lv 1, unless you cheat.
