Pe. 1R-Onevic No, they have been funding anyone who opposes Ethiopia to keep us in perpetual unrest so that we are busy with trying to stay alive. We never had a quite moment to think of any kind of development. We have been in perpetual war with each other(thanks to Egyptian funding). Instead of helping us to keep the water flowing, they have been funding one group against the other to keep us in perpetual war even as we speak!!! Has Egypt ever planted a tree in Ethiopia? Has Egypt given Ethiopia any help to rid Lake Tana of water hyacinth ? None of the above, yet she can dictate how much water she needs to continue to waste as usual!!!

As an agro-engineer, its time to focus on reforestation of Ethiopian Highlands. Please rehabilitate the source of the Nile, in the last 60 years the Forrest coverage comes from 30% to 1.8%.you are fighting on a dying river. It should be illegal to use trees as a source of energy in Ethiopia until recovery. We can double the amount of water available on Nile . it's proven science

Yes certainly; poverty may have been a major cause of deforestation which is why the GERD project is good for Ethiopia. There will be less dependence on forest wood for energy. The GERD actually guarantees Egypt's water security as well as that of Sudan. This is why we need to work with facts and realistic implications rather than fear, emotion, denial and absurd favorism.

@Kish B. I think brainwashed is a strange description. Obviously we are Africans , there is no denying this. But what people don't know is that we have over 500 tribes in Sudan. Some of them are definitely Arab ( They look exactly like people in the Gulf states) and some are 100 % African and speak their own languages. But the majority of Sudan is basically a mixture , as we are ethnically African( and proud obviously) , but our culture is heavily influenced by Arabia. It is a huge topic of debate which I am trying to simplify for you.

Egypt isn’t landlocked. Country is surrounded by water. Ethiopia is landlocked. Obviously we all know throughout history that we Ethiopians are fair and just. Egyptians are threatening to bomb the dam since it was brought about. Unfortunately the country doesn’t have as much military spending budget but it has man power. Egypt isn’t know for winning wars. They got destroyed by every known empire. Ethiopia is 7-0. Minor occultation/ongoing war with Italy for 5 years. We have nothing to lose. The concerns of the sudanese farmers are well understandable since most may be not very well educated and are ignorant to the operation of such a project. Some of the risks discussed by the sudanese minister/officials are natural risks which can not be eliminated even in the absence of the GERD. If heavy flow of water through the Nile is able to destroy the Sudanese DAM, the GERD may slow down that water flow and reduce damage, not increase it. Therefore; the GERD can in no way make the sudanese DAM more prone to collapse, except in the rare case where the GERD collapses as well.

Ethiopia has no control over nature and cannot provide guarantee to Sudan and Egypt over the sustaining water flow of the Nile river. Egypt and Sudan should shift their historical animosity attitude towards Ethiopia and start supporting Ethiopia’s efforts to plant trees along the Abay (blue Nile) basin and its tributaries. That’s what I think safeguards sustainability of the water flow and stability of the people in using it. GERD is beneficial to all the three countries.

What I don't understand that they are not thinking that Ethiopia is the main source of this river. They are trying to stand on this poor peoples throat not to used if for the sake of others interest. Be human think deep, What about other people life around the river? this is me,me,me,.....kind of thinking , very selfish. Let us think the other way,if Egypt was on Ethiopian place, Do you thing they will share their source of water? The way I see they will never in a million years. They are completely unfair. I am with Ethiopian and they have 100% right to use their own source, this will be the turning point of their history to develop and grow their country. Well done.

This farmer's concern is a result of the Sudanese dam on the blue Nile. The GERD has not yet had any effect on the flow of the Nile. This piece is misleading and based on false information and half truths.

The stupidity and selfishness of downstream countries are all about needing of water. They never discussed about protecting Abay from origin. They should protect it by planting trees or by other investmenting to protect the nature. And they never consider also 85% of it came from Ethiopia thats lead Ethiopia had 85% of legal rights to use it as its needed.

Ethiopia is the land of grace, the Sudanness and Egyptian must understand that, ABAY, is Ethiopian river, & 86% of Nile flow. It is imoral to critisize Ethiopia! They must consider on how to coordinate the flow instead of barking for BINDING agreement on the resource with ZERO contribution. Binding agreement was necessary when they divide S & E sign with zero Ethiopia division. Now equitable utlization, based on NATURAL CONTRIBUTION OF THE RIVER with all repairian countries.

I am not saying the goverment I am saying the people. The source of the river is in Ethiopia, you can not secure the flow of the water by any means except an understanding as a people.
