Etho MindCrack SMP - Episode 156: Taboo

Today we build the fire room at the pvp arena and start setting up a Taboo game.
MindCrack: / mindcracknetwork
MindCrack is a server Guude started in late 2010. It is a private (whitelisted) server. We are currently not accepting applications.

For the Red team spawn, you can use glowstone as the "icicles" like in the blue spawn. This is also a way to light the room. And for the blue spawn lighting, you could hide lamps or any way you want to light it in the ceiling and switch the ice for packed ice.

Hey Etho, I'm not exactly sure if it's possible, but you should put out a challenge to all of your viewers to create the collection of words in your Taboo game for you! If there's a way to import items into the game or add them to the server, anyone should be able to type up a card collection of a predetermined size (however big you want the collections to be) using books in Minecraft that follow all the rules of Taboo. Preferably, the cards would have a theme. Most people would likely create a collection based on the Mindcrack team, but just like your previous Seinfeld-themed game I'm sure there's many other topics that would work just as well. Each collection could be submitted for review using a simple text document, which contains all the cards put to books in the game. You could simply glance over the list to see if it looks like something you'd like to use or not and then import that collection to the server. The main advantages, of which there are many, are: - You get to play your own game since you didn't write out all of the cards - You involve your viewers in a creative and interactive manner - The likely huge number of entries mean that you can use a new collection every time you play! Also it means you can select only the best to use in-game - The use of themed collections mean that you'll likely avoid any overlapping words I think if you lay down the basic rules to everyone interested to participating (how you'd like each card arranged in the book, including spacing, all the rules you need to know to play Taboo, triple check your books for grammatical errors) and you encourage everyone to be creative with their topics, while still focusing on something that all of the Mindcrack members will be able to play, this could be a great experience for everyone involved.

Etho if you want to be able to play this game yourself you should ask some/all of the mindcrackers to write say 3 or 5 cards each. that way everyone is starting out with the same advantage and you will end up with a ton of different cards.

In the snow spawn put water above the roof so that it drips down and makes a cool effect (affect? idk). Do the same on the fire spawn but with lava. I think it will realy add to the build; it's all about the polish.

Etho can you remove the soul sand from the fire side? Just from the looks of the way the ice is being built if the arena isn't going to be symmetrical ice will have the advantage, and fire being slowed down randomly doesn't help

Snow and ice come from the sky. Fire and magma come from the earth. Maybe consider that when building the fire room since their opposites. Make the ceiling an floor opposites.

Idea 1: Dropper under the podium that submits the cards to the reader without falling from above. Much easier redstone. Idea 2: Have the opposite team submit their cards as part of game preparations. Maybe even from their own booths.

cards against humanity would be a good game too. name hundreds of paper slips as the white cards and then name black wool as the topic cards. Load all the papers into chests that go into hoppers into droppers (which can kinda random it up) where a different dropped it picked each time the "draw card" button is selected. Put papers in chest and the person will decide based on that

RexBlade Because it is hazardous and the newly spawners could get damaged by it, there is no real easy way to make it look like it is flowing down without it coming to the ground, and a person may infiltrate the spawn and kill people in it, with items possibly burning up; the same reasons Bdubs didn't use lava in the construction of the main play area.

Maybe a tad bit too late, but I personally think the hardened clay looks REALLY bad, nether brick or red hardened clay would look WAAAYY better I think. (also I mean in the PvP Arena if you haven't understood that ;) Also, another idea, maybe have all the Mindcrackers make Taboo cards, and basically a rule is that if you know you made it, you can't speak up and just wait for someone to get buzzed or whatever. Also, you had to sign the card, so the guy with the cards can know if the person made it or not.That'd make it pretty fair, I think :D

Came up with crazy idea for buzzer, trap a creeper behind glass. When they buzz it open, but the creeper is on soul sand so cant walk out. Then it close before it blows. That way scary creeper noise.

There is a really nasty prank just waiting to happen with those bed contraptions. If you did that around someones actual spawning bed and then pushed the person into lava, you could send someone into an eternal death cycle. Maybe something for the FTB-server?

Etho - In order to put everyone on even playing grounds and to let yourself play, maybe you could have each of the guys on the server fill out a book or two with a word of their choice and five words they would associate with it. That way, the only way anyone would know what the word is is if they contributed it, and some of the guys are kind of forgetful anyways ;)

I was thinking you could maybe turn the podiums sideways so the person can see the timer and the guy with the word. I was also think what if you did a cyan and purple floor. Then you can have the colours without making an offensive to the eye building.

What would the purpose for it be, at first it was an alright idea but now that I think about it every one is the same speed no matter the armor so one guy on each team will just kill every one on the other team and also the armor can be dropped or lost or on the fire side even burned and I doubt they wanna spend diamonds the scout is dumb too they will just be killed easily.

Team Deathmatch (TDM): 2 teams killing each other for a certain amount of points. Capture The Flag: Use capture points to get all points captured to win each member has a set amount of lives. Etho you mean a mix of both so you can't get away with calling it TDM when it is both. :)

Etho first of all I am a HUGE fan, anyways in the spawn rooms I don't think they should be identical, there should be a few differences like lava and glowstone in the fire room. Also I LOVE the way the acacia looks with all the ice!
