Etho MindCrack SMP - Episode 79: Arena Fight Night (Part 1 of 2)

MindCrack is a server Guude started in late 2010. It is a private (whitelisted) server. We are currently not accepting applications.
A lot of preparation has been put into the arena recently to get it ready for some fun and games. 12 of the MindCrack guys were able to get together for some battles.
Note: Part 2 will be posted tomorrow at the same time.

I am now 25 years old and I still love coming back to rewatch some of these videos that I first watched over a decade ago. It truly makes me miss easier days and rushing to see all the new Minecraft content Etho and all the other Mindcrack guys would upload. Sethbling's video shows that with MCedit, you can spawn zombies with pumpkins for heads with enchanted diamond swords. You can even have 2 things from one spawner and have specific chances for both.

theres two zombie spawners on either side of the arena...they have a dispenser set up with pumpkins in it....the ones that pick up the pumpkins will wear them on their head and they will not despawn, allowing them to store them up for when they want to use them

No, just use a dispenser to dispense the items at them. The zombies will automatically grab them if they don't have anything in their hand or armor slot. It also causes the mobs not to despawn

You can lower the quality down to 480, 360 or even 240p. There's plenty of standard definition options for slower connections or older devices. You can even set it to never play HD by default under Settings > Playback.

The zombies travel down a waterway that has dispensers to equip them with pumpkins and swords.

put half slabs on the floor of the arena, and put hoppers underneath that again. That way the items would get picked up if dropped, and you could sort them back to their respective chests

No, Bdubs only used zombies with no helmet. Those wearing one won't accept a pumpkin because a helmet is better. They picked helmets up after the game started, because a zombie always picks up armour / a sword if it is better than what he had before. Assuming, of course, that it is the zombie type that can pick up items. Same goes to Skeletons, Wither Skeletons and Zisteaus.

I see what you mean, but not really. He meant for the arena to be used like this! This is the fun of it! I think it was worth it for the setup. Plus, he can still use all the damaged weapons and armor, that's not an issue. All he has to do is put things back in dispensers and fix some terrain and redstone. I think he was happy in the end.

Etho, I think next time you have a Fight Night you should do something along the lines of a Capture the Flag type thing around Bdoubleo's village. Teams of three or something like that. Sorry if you don't like when people do this, but thumbs up if you would like to see the Mindcrackers do this. I personally this it would be really fun to watch. :)

There is 2 zombie dungeons around the arena and they made a system where they bring the zombies into the arena with pumpkins on their heads so they don't despawn

Just watched this after watching bdubs upload of it, its worth watching it from different viewpoints/teams to see how each one got on throughout the series of epic battles there at the arena xD off to watch genny's one next I think, then I might give the easycvg guy a look up and see what viewpoints that one got from above! Never noticed him there on bdubs video but did here on Ethos :P

Awesome i loved it! looked like alot of fun! I think the stealth class should be weakened health wise, like have an instant damage potion dealt to bring hearts down and reduced hunger bar to prevent regen, as a general rule in games stealth classes should be weaker armour/health wise to help balance the ability to be invisible

There is one flaw with your plan...what if someone uses tnt, the hoppers will blow up as well as it would be hard to fix the automatic filter everytime. I like your enthusiasm towards making the arena more advanced but next time i recommend that you make a t-chart about the pros and cons of your idea.

if you drop a item to a zombie it will pick up a item, and place it automatically! So you can easily give zombies armor by using a normal spawner and dispensers! or just drop a specific item on the ground and make the zombie pass over it!

The Stealth class should wear leather boots - it would make it less over powered as the other classes can have a small chance of seeing it.
