15% fee is high for shop owners making less than $10,000 a year. I don't know why they don't just charge by a total flat fee instead of a percentage of a sale. It doesn't leave much for the seller especially when you force individual business owners to ship items for free or get listing pushed down all way to end of the line ( where it won't be seen).

Love, love this info. Been selling on Etsy with free shipping but at this point, not a fan of the fees. Does Etsy take .20 for each item in our inventory, then .20 for each item sold? I'm preparing for the holiday season with luxury hand crafted scent products but am choosing not to hand over all my hard work to fees on Etsy.
@shawnshalest_hws3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. Etsy charges the 20 cents when you post the item. When you sell an item they charge to re-post it. If a person buys multiple quantities they charge you 20 cents for each like you would be reposting after each one is sold. When it comes to the fees try to build them into the price of your items.

What is the case for digital files and the quantities? Let’s say i set it to 999, do i have to pay 20 cents for the listing or 20 cent x 999 which would be insanely high for not knowing if anybody buys it. Don’t even understand why there is a quantity for digital stuff🤔
@shawnshalest_hws Жыл бұрын
Hi! Here is how it goes. When you initially list the digital file you pay 20 cents. When someone buys the item you are charged 20 cents again to re-list the item. Your quantity count goes down by one. This only happens automatically if you set your renewal options to "automatic". I always set my qty for digital items to 999. It just gives me a gage of how many people are buying it. But I agree that it would be easier if digital products had no quantity setting.

@shawnshalest_hws3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Etsy charges you a transaction fee on the cost of your item and the cost of the shipping. So if you item is $25, then they charge you 5% of the $25 dollars. And if it costs $8 to ship the item, then they charge you 5% of the $8. You can either charge your customer $8 to ship the item or you can offer free shipping and hide the shipping cost in the price of the item. I hope this helps. Shawn :-)

@shawnshalest_hws3 жыл бұрын
As the seller you only pay for shipping if you decide to offer free shipping. But either way you have to buy shipping labels. In one case the customer has given you the money for the label because they paid for shipping. In the other they did not because you offered free shipping.

I have a listing someone bought and paid for shipping with a total of $28.49, then in my account it only said I got $11 dollars and change to go in my bank account. Then I had to pay for the shipping label that was $3.88. Now I only get $7 and change in my account from one sale, is that correct?
@shawnshalest_hws2 жыл бұрын
You should see the following: - A transaction Fee of item = 6.5% of the item total - A transaction Fee of Shipping =6.5% of shipping total - A processing Fee = 3.0% of the order total plus $0.25 - a new listing fee = .20
