Etsy Shut Me Down!!! Every Listing Was "Deactivated By Etsy"

What did I do wrong? I wondered that for 2 whole days before they finally told me. Watch this if you're an Etsy seller, so it doesn't happen to you!

I’m sorry you’re going through this. At least they have chat. My Facebook business page was shut down almost 2 weeks ago, my credit card and PayPal associated with that account were hacked and I have yet to get any estimated time that this will be resolved. They have no email or no number and my business is basically shut down until further notice because of it. My advice is get a website and don’t rely on any of these social media platforms to do your business.

They suspended my account for over a year. No explanation. I emailed someone a few days ago , the issued was resolved. My account was suspended in error.

This video came up in my feed, not sure why. Except the universe telling me to check my account, which I did, and found that my credit card info had expired. i bet etsy would have shut me down within a day or 2 so THANK YOU for this video!!!

You're welcome. My email said that I was getting close to the $600 mark in sales, so that's why mine was shut down. I sure think I had put all that info in last year though, when I first got the notice.

This is so helpful. Thanks for sharing your experience so that others can avoid this headache. So glad you got it sorted, too bad Etsy doesn't have an automated warning set up for when hitting a certain threshold like $400 and then another email notification upon deactivation so that if someone were looking for answers they would easily know exactly why it happened and how to fix. Can't believe it took them DAYS to get you sorted for such a simple (and I'm sure incredibly common) issue!!

I’ve had this problem as well, it’s only because another Etsy seller who sells similar products contact me saying there are bots deactivating listings that have batteries in them. ( I make costume pieces with lights in) and the trouble is that they just use bots for the deactivating and then bots on the help chat, so it’s very difficult to chat to a human.

I had one of my stores shut down because my credit card had expired. I had updated it but it didn’t stick. Turns out I owed then 62 cents. As soon as I put the updated card everything went back to normal.

I'm glad it was an easy fix. I got an email today from paypal, that they needed my updated information. I guess we need to try and stay on top of all this stuff with the new tax laws.

So, on my dashboard there was a notice about updating my account just as you said. I don't normally do any business on my cell phone but I did fill out that info. The next day when I got on my PC desktop, I went to my dashboard and the message was still there. I clicked on it to see why was it there and I noticed that the social security info had not been completed. So I completed it, it went through and the message went away. I figured the phone was not allowing me to put all the info in and that was why it hadn't gone through.

Maybe that's what happened to me when I did it in the fall, or winter whenever the original notice went out. I couldn't understand why some of the information would be there and not the rest of it.

But what if im from Europe and sell digital product to US for example ?? i dont have US Social security number because i pay taxes in my own country.

They are also requiring two photo ids such as driver’s licenses and marriage certificates or divorce certificates or any others listed. I find this overkill on Etsys part. Not sure if I will ever get my items up and running again

This exact same situation happened to me right now! They wouldn't accept my EIN number and froze my store, but I put in my social security number and immediately less than a minute later my shop was unlocked.

So if they didn't recognize your EIN mean they won't recognize mine as I do not have a SSN im a non resident. So that mean for us I would definitely need my ITIN?

Same thing has happened to me and they said to my appeal that they currently have no explanation, but it is permanent. There was no email explaining or nothing.

I actually got my account with the following steps.... 1. I searched for kendrixcyber 2. I sent him a direct message and waited for him response 3. .. I explained what had happened and also gave him the necessary information needed.

The reason why you did not get a response until Monday is because Saturday and Sunday is not a work week. Most places have weekend staff who only know basic stuff and the people in the know about stuff like what you were asking about only work the work week.

I had asked about that when I contacted them, and they said that they were referring my issue to someone higher up than them. They assured me that they worked 7 days a week, but, I agree with you.

I don't see it as being petty, because they need that information. I just wish that they had given me a warning before they shut me down. I could have easily taken care of it, and avoided the shut down.

Nothing worked. the only thing available was an e-mail, but it would not let me submit an e-mail unless I agreed that I had committed a violation (Which I had not) I opened my Etsy account on Monday, August 22nd. On Tuesday morning (6:00 am) I listed 16 greeting cards that I had designed, then I left to go to work. At 6:00 pm when I returned home from work (12 hours later) I wanted to utilize Etsy Ads, but when I opened my Dashboard and clicked "Listings" it stated at the top of the page that my account was temporary suspended. I spent 10 hours trying to find a telephone number where I could contact them (But no success). I went on KZbin and found you video and followed everything that you stated. But no live chat or phone number available. The only thing available was the e-mail, but it will not allow me to submit the e-mail unless i first admitted that I did a violation (Which I had not). Do you have an actual phone number where I can contact them?

I think I contacted them through chat, but I'd have to watch the video again to confirm, since this happened a while ago. I know that I didn't speak to them on the phone.
