25 Melodic and Progressive Etudes, Op.60 by Matteo Carcassi (1796-1853) for Classical Guitar. PDF sheet music for Classical Guitar. Comes with both a notation edition with left hand fingering and a separate tab edition in the same pdf. Intermediate to Early-Advanced (Grade 5-9). This is a PDF download. 142 Pages.
The twenty-five etudes in Op.60 by Matteo Carcassi (1796-1853) are one of the most important pedagogical collections for classical guitar. The etudes are both enjoyable for their musical content and pedagogically beneficial for their very clear technical objectives. Compared to other etude collections, both period and modern, Op.60 excels in its tightly focused compositional adherence to didactic goals. For this reason the etudes are excellent studies for students to test their skills in a controlled musical setting and a right of passage from the intermediate to upper playing level.

Thanks for the lesson. One of my favorite warm-up pieces. I remember learning this piece and how long it took to smooth out some of the transitions and awkward left-hand shapes. For those learning it for the first time, the reward of playing it well is worth the effort.

Hello Bradford, I played this study, I had to play the melody not very loud, so that the accompaniment is well heard. You have to be careful with the open strings when vibrating, so that they do not touch with the fingers of the left hand.

At what level (upper beginner or low intermediate) should someone attempt to play this melodic piece? Thank you for posting this lesson.

I grade all the pieces at the page (just scroll down to the video list). I place this one at grade 5 so intermediate but not too tricky or awkward at all. www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/25-etudes-op60-carcassi-pdf/

Sir, how to shake your hand and catch rhythm tempo like you did on open this video ?

I find this piece somewhat tricky as one has to make a judgement call whether to bring out the melody and keep the accompaniment very soft, or make the accompaniment slightly louder to bring out the triad structure of the triplets, accenting the first note of each triplet but keeping the following two notes loud enough to let there be no doubt that these are indeed triplets and you are playing a succession of triads. (Ref Etude no. 4 - the first note in each triplet is a slur, but similarly accented).

Well, there are layers at work of course but that melody and it's shaping is very important. You can lead up to it with a fair amount of presence in the first triplet but then I would really soften the accompaniment.
