Every single Legacy car maker is in dire trouble, because every BEV startup begins without the millstone of obsolete designs, factories and debt. Car makers have been struggling for decades to make any money, so how are they going to raise yet more capital unless they've already committed to an aggressive BEV program with a substantial battery supply chain in place already? it's simply too late for them. They all thought that Tesla would fail and they could keep doing what they've always done. That miscalculation has cost them their future, and they will never be the same force that they once were. I think Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi are at risk of losing their dominance in the luxury brand market. One thing that appears to be growing is revenue by subscriptions. Although I think that some go a bit too far, like a subscription to enable heated seats, or enable extra turning ability in a rear wheel steering system. The gradual rise of EVs and the changes in the products that brands deliver have at least changed my views on certain brands.

I think Europe and the world in general will need a ICE Hybrid for use cases like Emergency service, search and rescue, farming equipment, etc. Total ban is a short sighted idea. EV's are just not feasible for all needed use cases at this time and unlikely by 2035, unless a major breakthrough is made that is safe, affordable and abundant. If the legislation was for only Passenger or commuter vehicles, that would make more sense.
@oerthling2 жыл бұрын
The "ban" will most likely be redundant anyway. Shrinking production runs for ICE cars will increase unit costs, while EVs increase market share (and profit from shrinking unit costs with growing production runs). ICE cars will become expensive old-tech, crappy and uncompetitive. And while some kinds of vehicles (I'm guessing some specialized construction vehicles for example) might not be as easily converted to EVs, I don't see why emergency vehicles would pose a major problem. On the whole I don't think the ban will make much difference. And can always be adapted where needed. Having a few exceptions (specialized bridge building machinery or whatever) won't make a difference to global CO2 anyway. It's a billion cars that makes a difference.
@ciybersal98332 жыл бұрын
@@oerthling Here in third world people still buy dumb phones as battery lasts a week and batteries can be replaced. Emergency services required in mountains regions, villages, deserts Amazons of the world you need lots of fuel. In case of petrol you can carry in bottles. @oerthling2 жыл бұрын
@@ciybersal9833 Obviously the situation in developing countries is different from Europe and will move at another pace. But sometimes, like with cell towers, technological advancements can be skipped. Countries that never finished connecting ever household to a countrywide telephone network, now has cell phone access in remote places because it was easier/cheaper to build 1 antenna tower than thousands of km of cable and network nodes. Similar, getting wind and solar based energy production to remote corners might eventually be easier than getting power lines to every remote village. Not sure and I'm not an infrastructure expert - time will tell. But even with a delay, this change will also come to developing countries. After some years the supply of used ICE cars will run out, so less to import. And less new oilfields will get developed and less oil/gas shipped around when demand from countries that switched to EVs goes down. Meanwhile solar panels and batteries will become cheaper with increased production resulting in lower unit costs.
@avaxasirvina67402 жыл бұрын
@@oerthling Point is a "Ban" is short sighted as we do not yet have battery solutions that will address use cases that ICE/Hybrids still fill better than EV's. Eventually they will, but the research currently does not support it and anticipated breakthrough may or may not come to production at that time or in amount needed. I have an EV Truck, I really love it. But I still have to have my ICE truck for some of my needs. Emergency service, large scale transport, search and rescue, etc. still need ICE/Hybrid engines some time still. Emergency vehicles like ambulances need to be ready and deployable and refill very quickly, in a large or long term emergency situation. Exceptions should be dully noted for such vehicles.

I’m interested in how Oil & Gas companies respond, they’re still exploring to find new oil reserves at the moment, sort of pointless if they can’t sell any of the stuff they find. This might be the “moment of clarity” O&G mentally stunted executives needed to finally realise if they don’t invest they’re money in green energy projects and EV charging infrastructure they will have a turnover equivalent to the Burger&Chips caravan parked on the M11 truck-stop in a decades time, certainly in China and Europe and most probably the US too, Aussies will still be riding Kangaroos most probably. Actually O&G might crash like a crashy-thing, all that infrastructure making H2 unviable, well O&G has the same infrastructure they need to keep running. When people buy gas/petrol they’re really paying for the overheads of oil rigs, pipes, refineries and lorries and so on. If O&G sales start dropping their overheads wont, so gas/petrol prices will just increase making EV’s a better purchase option well before 2035. "Gasoline Enthusiasts" might just get trapped in a cycle of never ending escalating price rises with EV sales and market share going as it is.
@johnwilson57432 жыл бұрын
Hi DD. You pose a very good question. How are they already beginning to respond. Well, forward thinking groups, like the Arab Oil producers, have already started weaning their whole financial futures s-l-o-w-l-y off oil and on to various other energy producing methodologies. Particularly Solar and Wind. They already have some HUGE solar farms, backed by battery storage systems. Have built a few alt energy small towns (more than 5 years ago) and are trialing and testing all these systems. Closer to home, in the UK who have embraced particularly off-shore wind farms backed by battery storage, a number of the Petrol (gasolene) retail companies are establishing EV charging stations on their forecourts, with solar on their roofs, again backed by batteries. One has to give them credit for realising a huge change is coming... and they want to survive. Very, very interesting.

China is on track to sell 45% electric vehicles in 2023. The U.S. makes the excuse for not doing more environmentally: "China isn't doing enough." Construction of the 2 MWt Thorium Molten Salt Reactor-Liquid Flouride 1 began in September 2018 and was reported completed in August 2021. China plans to build a similar reactor with a capacity of 373 MWt by 2030. Remember, as easy as it was to pass a law is as easy as it is to void that law. All these "laws" banning ICE will be overthrown, and ICE will still be made 50 years from now. There is no scientific proof that climate change is real - since there is NO definition of what climate change is. Well, except it is a synonym for the weather. 25 years from now, in the USA, EVs will make up just 25% of the cars sold - if that. EVs pollute just as much as ICE cars do for the 1st 7 years of ownership since that Lithium battery required 500,000 pounds of ore to be scraped, moved, crushed, refined, shipped halfway around the earth, and finally delivered to the battery manufacturer - all powered by diesel that will NEVER change. and then after 7 years, Green energy accounts for 12% of all the energy produced today, and that means 88% of the electricity you put into your EV is from carbon energy, and that won't change much in 25 years. Our electrical grids need to be substantially improved to handle millions of EVs charging just as the sun sets and the wind dies. Buy an EV if you want but don't think for a second you are saving the earth in any way. It doesn't need saving.

Toyota is in trouble. But they still make a lot of money to throw last minute at the EV market. This is a big if…if their solid state battery can be scaled for EV’s they could do well. I’m also expecting Toyota to cut costs more than they have up until now. Yes, I think the hybrid market is going away. But lots of people still like hybrids. You can get a Camry that gets 50mpg. The new Prius is being advertised to go 60miles electric. That’s a 100% increase from the past design. I’m curious to see if the hybrid market, especially for Toyota, decreases as quickly as fully ICE vehicles. Finally hydrogen vehicles make a lot of sense for buses and semi trucks. There are many cities in the USA that have hydrogen metro buses including where I live in DC. Toyota has just announced a new hydrogen semi truck.
