Yes. I have the SV20 stack, and sometimes I think I should've opted for the SC20 instead simply because of it having a master volume control. I use only a bit of attenuation to help tame it, but the SV20 likes to be turned up to hit the amp's sweet spot.

I can only confirm what Euge here showed very well. I have an SC20 that I hook to a single Engl 1x12 V30 cab and it is an absolute monster. For home use, it is too loud without an attenuator of some kind because you need to run at it a sweet spot between 5-6 to get THE SOUND right, and preamp dimed to three-quarters or full. I run it with -20 dB captor attenuation and also put a dummy volume pedal in the FX loop to tame the preamp in order to get more volume from the master volume. Those are some tricks that I use to tame down volumes to a really acceptable level and not getting killed by the neighbors lol but still getting that Marshall sound that we are all addicted to :-) Studio JCM 800 kicks ass!

They are incredibly loud indeed. And nowadays you mostly can't use the power anyway, especially in so called "silent stage" situations where the FOH mostly uses a DI signal and we all use in-ears. The loud stages are long over nowadays anyway, at least for the most part. When I started out decades ago there were still real loud stage volumes and lots of feedback;) However, I still love the big heads as they give you more headroom in general. You can actually download a decibel reader onto your phone for free. HI, HUge like ever very good info, Just for the people that fear to be too loud, you have to know that the Bugera Power soak , even when at full volume, it cuts the volume in half. So consider this too. I do Have a Mini Plexi SC20h and also a similar Laney LA30BH . THe Laney is way louder than the plexi. I do have power soak a Bugera for low wattage amp and a Rivera Rock Crusher for my bigger amp. HOnestly, for my SC and MY La30BH, i don’t use power soak and i use my SC20h at volume 8. For me it sound good that way without beeing too loud (for the SC). When my wife is at home i do use my Power soak no choice ....... :-). Like these attenuators always do ’cos the ”reactance” & the negative feedback between the amp and the cab / speaker isn’t the same than without one. But it’s quite minor and doesn’t bother me ’cos I don’t record with this attached but just if I want to jam at lower volume levels and crank the amps to get a fuller sound. So for this purpose, to it was designed to, it works like a charm 👌😎. Thanks!

I know this is a year old so maybe you’ve upgraded but you gotta ditch that power soak and get a power station. That bugera robs a lot of tone man

For me 20 watts is gonna be plenty loud,20 watts vs 50 watts(im talking about tube not ss), not a big difference in volume. The question is, how much saturation do you want coming from the tubes 🤔.

That’s a good question indeed 👌😎

1 watt gives up to 103dB, no surprises here. BTW I got an SV20 recently, totally worth the hassle.

The JCM800, is it loud enough to get over a heavy hitting drummer?

I have a 40w Marshall and fender 1 x 12 combo and I have a 15w Vox 2 x 12 and there’s little difference in volume between them. Valves rock 😂

Wattage reduction is not enough. This is a further proof that all tube amps need a power attenuator included inside the amp.

Even 1w is noisy, I usually use my dsl15 in triode mode (half power) with the volume at 2.5 and with 100dB speakers it is impractical for home use...

How loud the Marshall studio amps actually are…, talks most of the time, plays some unamplified licks and 1 chord for 2 seconds for every amp, man that’s deafening 🙉
