Yes. I have the SV20 stack, and sometimes I think I should've opted for the SC20 instead simply because of it having a master volume control. I use only a bit of attenuation to help tame it, but the SV20 likes to be turned up to hit the amp's sweet spot.

They are incredibly loud indeed. And nowadays you mostly can't use the power anyway, especially in so called "silent stage" situations where the FOH mostly uses a DI signal and we all use in-ears. The loud stages are long over nowadays anyway, at least for the most part. When I started out decades ago there were still real loud stage volumes and lots of feedback;) However, I still love the big heads as they give you more headroom in general. Great video again, my friend. Stay safe and keep on rockin'!

I can only confirm what Euge here showed very well. I have an SC20 that I hook to a single Engl 1x12 V30 cab and it is an absolute monster. For home use, it is too loud without an attenuator of some kind because you need to run at it a sweet spot between 5-6 to get THE SOUND right, and preamp dimed to three-quarters or full. I run it with -20 dB captor attenuation and also put a dummy volume pedal in the FX loop to tame the preamp in order to get more volume from the master volume. Those are some tricks that I use to tame down volumes to a really acceptable level and not getting killed by the neighbors lol but still getting that Marshall sound that we are all addicted to :-) Studio JCM 800 kicks ass!

HI, HUge like ever very good info, Just for the people that fear to be too loud, you have to know that the Bugera Power soak , even when at full volume, it cuts the volume in half. So consider this too. I do Have a Mini Plexi SC20h and also a similar Laney LA30BH . THe Laney is way louder than the plexi. I do have power soak a Bugera for low wattage amp and a Rivera Rock Crusher for my bigger amp. HOnestly, for my SC and MY La30BH, i don’t use power soak and i use my SC20h at volume 8. For me it sound good that way without beeing too loud (for the SC). When my wife is at home i do use my Power soak no choice ....... :-). Thanks for the vids Eugene, i really like your post, great playing, great advise, great playing.

Ok this is pretty clear and I'm about to get the jcm800. I play in a VERY Loud stage level band, largish venues! I'm planning on using it with a marshall 1960bv 4x12 cabinet. Still think it will cut it? I use a jvm410h and it's monstrous loud! but the gain channels are too compressed so I'm gunna A/B/Y the 2 amps through one cab jvm for cleans and jcm for over drive. Like these attenuators always do ’cos the ”reactance” & the negative feedback between the amp and the cab / speaker isn’t the same than without one. But it’s quite minor and doesn’t bother me ’cos I don’t record with this attached but just if I want to jam at lower volume levels and crank the amps to get a fuller sound. So for this purpose, to it was designed to, it works like a charm 👌😎. Thanks!

You can actually download a decibel reader onto your phone for free. I have one , I know my marshall that’s 100 watts, when I turn it down with the master sits at around 75-80 decibels about 12 feet away ,if I’m trying to not be ridiculously loud. 2 1/2 minutes in and defo can agree with plexis being deafening loud, I once had the chance about 9 years ago to do an outdoor gig with 1980 super lead and superreverb ri together with both up at about 7 (no master volume) and literally could not hear the hard hitting drummer that was set up 1.5 meters away from me ....!

Yes. I mean it depends how hard hitter the drummer is but gigging definitely ’cos it doesn’t really matter how loud an amp is; one can always have whatever one needs to hear from wedges or in-ears.

Euge Valovirta Eminence used to make speakers with a faux volume control on the back which used to adjust speaker efficiency which was handy, the only issue was it wasn’t much use in a closed back cab unless you had some quick way of taking the back panel off to gain access to adjuster knob.

ok to answer my own question for everyone, just got my jcm800 based on what Euge has showed me in this video.........holy shit yes its loud enough! just put it side by side with my jvm410h 100w through a marshall 1960b and it more than kept up. this thing is just below the jvm100w for output (not by much) but heres the thing- it has serious push and cutting power! i dont see a live application where this 20w jcm800 wouldnt be more than enough in the volume department and my band is LOUD as hell

For me 20 watts is gonna be plenty loud,20 watts vs 50 watts(im talking about tube not ss), not a big difference in volume. The question is, how much saturation do you want coming from the tubes 🤔.
