@EugeValovirta230V you did a video recently about master volumes on amps and explained how it's not really a master because it affects the power amp tubes ( distortion). So in your opinion, if one wants to play the big amps like the dsl 100hr or the 5150 ( 100 watt) at home, is the best way to use an attenuator after the amp between the amp and speaker cab?

Hello Euge good morning. Terrific useful stuff: very clearly and logically explained, Compliments! Would you mind to answer a question? Do you have a sistematic process to establish when it is time to go on from what you are practicing today to new stuff (basically pure technique)? My problem : I cannot normally bring my studies to the bpm speed i want to because it would last forever, and of course I have also to integrate new material in my routine. What are the signs you notice (or the process you use) to put that particular thing to the side (and maybe revisit it in the future?) and bring in new stuff to learn? i hope this make some sense :D Thank you in advance and keep rockin´! maxx

A lot of the crack and snap on the lower strings the chugs comes from your right hand technique and Euge, has a fantastic right hard technique. The Marshall though with the SD1 that’s the sound man! The 5150 is great and it’s sorta like a demo saw, but the Marshall a scalpel and the percussive clank from a boosted Marshall is the shit . Both amps sound great and especially blended together, but if I could only have one give me the Marshall with a SD1 all day long! The speakers and cabs are the most important part of the signal chain and guitar players are starting to figure it out. The cats out of bag. Speakers aren’t sexy like amps and pedals but you’d do better to have a couple different cab and speaker than a bunch of different amps.
@EugeValovirta230V

I agree 100%. Thanks! On this one I dialled a bit more "demo saw" tone from the 5150 than if I'd use it alone. Just to make it even more different than the 800.

@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear thanks! There's no wrong or right; whatever works / sounds the best in any given situation/song etc. For example on the latest Cyhra album 'The Vertigo Trigger' I played rhythms for certain songs and Marcus' for certain songs. It was just like "ok you do this one, I'll do this one" etc. And I think on some songs we both played rhythms 'cos it also seemed to work just fine. We used all of my amps, cabs, mics etc. and I can't really remember anymore which one used which amps on different songs but for rhythms it was mostly like on this video except we used several different mic pairs just to get even more variety.

@@EugeValovirta230V what I mean is for rhythm its better to not change speaker and mic position for the same stereo pair guitars??...amp and guitars eq you can change for tone...but for speaker and mic position??

Whatever works is the way to go. I've recorded many times with two SM57s in the Fredman Style to other side and then this pair to another side and sometimes, when I've done four tracks, I've used two more other pairs for those. Just whatever seems to work the best. I have always four pair of mics coming in from my cabs (1960BV & 1960BX) to my mic pre and sometimes I record them all and then just choose which ones I'll use when I'm mixing. You just have to make sure that those are all phase aligned with each other.@@xuliofb6726 .

Hi Euge, that sounded amazing, thanks for the tips. I recently managed to pick up a Marshall 1960A quite cheap and it's loaded with the standard Celestion G12T-75. It sounds fine to me, but what do think of those speakers? Would you swap for V30s or maybe mix them?
@EugeValovirta230V
@EugeValovirta230V Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have two T75s on my 1960BX Greenback cab but I hardly use them. If I do it's just blending them. The mids are really strange on those speakers. They sound pretty good when you stand in front of a cab but mic'd it sounds like the sound is coming from far away in a strange way. I'd swap two of those to Marshall Vintage speakers. Not Celestion V30s; they're good too but the OG Marshall Vintage is better IMO. It's much fuller without any harsh upper mids.

@@EugeValovirta230V thanks so much. The main issue I have with the cab is that it's extremely directional. If I stand just a few degrees off centre it sounds completely different. Thanks for the advice, I'll see if I can find some OG Marshall Vintage.

Even though i do not use one in any of my guitars i still defend the EMG 81 as a incredible p'u for Metal and heavier styles and even not so heavy tones like some have shown the EMG 81 also will work for Blues /Rock. Gary Moore use a 81 in his Charvel's but also played and used Les paul's with Gibson P.A.F's. There are others in music that are not Metal that use 81 and get great tones. Shame it has a rep for being a Metal only pickup.

I have better results with quad tracking as those guitars sound much bigger. Using Engl Fireball 60 and Czech Boutique amp ESH Series 2000 hg 50/2. Cool! That’s obviously impossible for me to know since I have no idea that what is the mix you’re referring to. But if it works without doing anything while mixing then I guess it’s mix ready 😎.
