I just got a JVM after having the TSL for 4 years and I would say the JVM wins. I got rid of all my pedals in front and it's just my guitar into the JVM. I could never get the fizz out of the Lead channel on the TSL. I smiled right away when I hit a chord on the JVM.

Same here, from the first chord I hit on my JVM410, I was smiling. It's an amazing amp.
@Stefan-Van-der-Pulst2 жыл бұрын
@@ExperienceEric Exactly! The key to using the TSL is use the crunch channel as your rhythm sound. Play it loud (past 4) and use the deep switch. You want more gain? Use a boost pedal (try one that adds a bit of high mids to the sound). Use the lead channel only for solo's (and use the deep switch to fatten it up). I was disappointed when I got my JVM, I hoped it would be a 4 channel TSL.
@JesseFSegovia Жыл бұрын
Agreed. The TSL Lead channel sounds great on solos but not so good on power chords. I could get great results even on milder solos like 'Who's Cryin' Now.' For me, the TSL Clean channel is passable but it's always way too ‘spanky,' like Marshall wants it to sound like a country Fender amp. Now the Crunch channel is just about perfect! It sounds just as good to me as the DSL or the Vintage Modern.
@Wasteoftime1011 ай бұрын
I own two 410s, and a DSL 50, and have them all still. Ive owned my first JVM over a year, and it sounds really good, but if I lost it, I wouldnt replace it. I got a chance to buy another at a good price, knowing that all high gain amps vary in tone from amp to amp, with some amps varying a lot. The newer one I just got is amazing. I own over 12 different high gain heads, and now this JVM410 is one of my favorites of all my heads, while I would never say that before with the first one that I owned. Just goes to show the vast differences that occur in amps.

I own both and they’re both amazing TSL is a mid range monster that cuts through and is loud as hell, the crunch channel with a good overdrive and speakers really scream! The JVM on the OD orange and red mode sounds like the world is coming to an end! Plus it has the best designed and most versatile foot switch, plus the solo boost and ability to change so many sounds with the press of a button, plus the guitar chord for the switch is genius Overall for me the JVM wins do to its versatility, but the clarity and power of the TSL makes it an equal contender
@ExperienceEric9 ай бұрын
That has always been my description for the TSL, it just cuts and slices through the mix like few amps I've ever played. So many good amps seem to be a little buried in the mix and things just get muddy if I try to crank it more, that is NEVER the case with my TSL. It just slices through the base and drums with such clarity. I'm not saying the JVM does not (I don't even have one yet). I'm just saying that is the biggest characteristic of a TSL compared to other Marshalls. When I play a DSL and TSL without the band they sound practically the same. When the bass and drums are going I can tell the TSL cuts through way better.
@Jeff-jz5sf9 ай бұрын
@@ExperienceEric most definitely the TSL just pushes through everything with the volume on 3. The JVM doesn’t cut quite as strongly but it shakes the floor on those high gain settings. I love both equally

I had 3 TSL100's over the years and owned a JVM 410 for more than 12 years and can honestly say I prefer the TSL 100. But it's one of those Marshalls that you have to crank, it makes a whole lot of difference. Not so much with the JVM. To me the JVM has more upper treble and the mids don't sound as meaty as the TSL (I call it thinner sounding) , maybe because the TSL has more lower mids, I don't know... I always used the deep switches on every channel of the TSL (I prefer it over the resonance control on the JVM, it sounds different). The JVM is also way more noisy than the TSL. I like to say that the TSL was the last Marshall that had "balls".. After that, they had more gain but sounded thinner. Maybe the output transformer has something to do with this..again, I don't know.
@EugeValovirta230V2 жыл бұрын
Yeah TSL is a fantastic amp and I have the deep switch always on on the od channels. More balls that way 😎. There’s a sweet spot with the master on most tube amps when they just starts to roar. That’s the case especially with older Marshalls. And when they roar oh boy it’s like 💪👊👌.
@lo35724 жыл бұрын
I think the goal of the JVM was to build a JCM800 that was already modded with an internal boost pedal. So it's actually not based on the TSL. Regret selling my TSL now. Never thought of using OD pedals with tube amps back then.

thecase1975 which one do you prefer? JVM or TSL? Many say the JVM is better & that the DSL is the best modern Marshall.
@thecase19754 жыл бұрын
L O between you and I the tsl100 is Marshall’s answer the the trip. rec. (Only my opinion, others may think differently) so it’s voiced lower and as Euge puts it “more angry sounding” and I think that turns a ton of ‘marshall’ people off. I personally love it. If you like Fear Factory, Lamb of God, Ministry type grind the TSL100 is your beast with a boost pedal (not the 60watt!!!! I had one of those also..sold it.)JVM is a Dad Marshall. Seems to be missing....balls or something. I can find very similar sounds out of different amps for not $1800 (used) in Canada. I just can’t put my finger on it yet. My Best analogy I can come up with is: jvm/jcm800 2205-2210. TSL100/jcm800 2203 (like Euge’s) the TSL is just plain ‘meaner’.

@davej8045 Жыл бұрын
@@tgchan There really isn’t anything that I dislike about the JVM410H, though at one point it seemed to be better with a noise gate because it can be such a gain monster, depending how it’s setup. I had a guitar that sounded abysmal through every amplifier at home and spent way too much time trying redial them all just to be remotely satisfied with that particular guitar. I sort of accidentally found my “Zen” after going back to basic settings with the JVM and the mated speaker cabinet. I was stoked that a couple of guitars that previously just sounded okay to me sound really good now. I was considering getting the new Bogner Uber Ultra but couldn’t decide if a different one should be re-homed to make room. I bought a KHE amp/cab switcher to run everything through the 2 favorite cabinets and was able to dial everything else in better on the other amplifiers. I also noticed that the JVM didn’t need a noise gate any more than the other amps. Perhaps my favorite thing about the JVM410H is the versatility that it has between the channels and modes. Just cycle through them all and it’s fairly apparent what tones you can get without overthinking it. I have a couple of amplifiers and it sometimes feels like a hearing test, tweaking stuff in and trying to pick up on differences that I can barely notice. Comparing and contrasting the JVM to the other amplifiers through the same cabinets made me like it even more.

@@davej8045 Thank you very much for sharing your experience with it. How is the master volume on that beast? Can you play in a middle of the night with it?
@davej8045 Жыл бұрын
@@tgchan You are welcome...I can't say that I've tried the (410's) volume down quite that much since I bought it. Comparatively, I ran the JVM210H through an attenuator into a Marshall 1936 lead 2X12 cabinet to try to push it to give me the right feel and not go deaf. I did try the 410 with the same attenuator but couldn't notice much of a benefit, most likely because it felt a lot better to me already without pushing it. Also, my Mesa B. TC-100 has a built in attenuator and the system volume on my Friedman BE-100 D. does seem to be a little better than the rest. Now that I'm mostly running everything through a 4X12 or a deep vertical 2X12, I have the volumes at roughly the same perceived level. The Mezzabarba Trinity 100 master volumes are on the back along with some other knobs but I'm good with how everything is dialed. I brought up the volumes of the other amps to be relatively close to the Mezz. From the standpoint of being able to practice late, I have to have the volume louder than the resonation of my strings, which in my situation would most likely wake up the girlfriend upstairs.

But I was curious about the ENGL tubes, aren't they rebranded JJ's? or so i've read... and the older ENGL tubes where Shuguang ECC83.... so I was wondering if you could maybe answer this for me.... thanks for all the great video's brother!

All good thanks! Yeah I think they’re JJs 👌.

Have you tried the 2 newer DSLs yet?
@EugeValovirta230V4 жыл бұрын
I played with the newer 100w DSL a few times back in the day live with Shining. It’s good but not as good as the original JCM2000 DSL.

I traded a shitty DSL 40C vs DSL401 JCM 2000 😆😆👍👍 Man the Crunch Channel on this Combo is soo good. Also own DSL5O ans TSL100 plus a jcm900 MkIII. Love all of them! But the Dsl401 JCM 2000 with half Open Back and G12 H30 70th sounds phenomenal also on room volume Levels.

The DSL40C has such a shitty Overdrive..unbelieveable!!!! The DSl100 /DSL20 heads seem totally different.

Hey Euge!! A great Video again but i have a question :) In your Videos, you use just Marshall or a Fryette! :) What is with other amps ? Maybe a Hughes and Kettner or better : a peavey? :) I hope you and youre family are healthy and i hope the next Tour makes a stop in nuremberg or munich! :)

Can’t remember but probably quite the same depending how bright one dials them 😎.

Euge you say the jcm800 2203 is your favourite amp but with the way you talk about the TSL it sounds like it might be closing in on the 2203. I also wonder why your jcm800 2203 sounds better than my jmp 2203 with mesa preamp tubes and ruby el34's ?
@EugeValovirta230V3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is 💪. TSL is great also but there’s only one King 😎. All Marshalls (especially the older ones) sound different from each other which could be a blessing and a curse 😊. JMP 2203s are generally a bit smoother than the horizontal input 800 2203s.

The jvm does classic rock sounds better imo but for death or thrash metal i'd go with the tsl. They are not the most popular amps but i really like them.

You should had (or if you already did) swap the power tubes on the TSL. My TSL sounded so so so good (during my "band" days). I loved it. A few years ago, I sold it (personal), but I wished I didn't.

I borrowed the JVM from a friend to do a few videos about it so no 😎.

Jvm would be my choice .make sure the masters are open on the jvm it sounds way better like that you may find that aggression . I have a jvm and I like how good the eq is way better than a 800and volume management is way easier with a jvm than on a 800

Tsl hands down,can’t beat that 23 year old vintage amp now,although the jvm was close just not as ballsy in my opinion

Clean channels are both too dirty. Not clean at all - it is pickups. To me they both sound very bad. MAybe with PAFS would be much better, but have an impression cleans are not the greatest on those amps. Hi gains in 800 style. I always look for amp that does Plexi and 800 thing, but they both are unable to do that judging from this demo.
