I really believe in great cooperation with North (Scandinavians, Baltics, British Isles) and create "Another center of gravity" in Europe, adding later Visegrad group, Romania and Ukraine, as an alternative to Franco-German domination in our beloved Continent. Although it will work only under two conditions: -All of these countries will accept Poland as the leader of this initiative and will trust Poland as the greatest power in this region -Poland will finally understand the seriousness of its position and will be ready to take this great responsibility. We will see.

As somebody from Czechia I can confidently say that if there are any countries up to the task right now to fix what Orban was trying to break, it's Poland and Denmark. I wouldn't go that far but there's not a lot of nations that have been through the bullshit they've had to endure and come out alright time and time again. They sure are a resilient bunch and that is what Europe needs right now, we are all in a tough spot to be sure and we are looking weaker than ever. Maybe they will be the ones to get us through the shit, idk. What does worry me is that, of the small handful of Polish people i have known, a worrying amount of them have had some very unpalatable opinions or have been deeply religious to a fault (using the bible to try to justify hateful things) but hey maybe I've just met some real assholes but it would seem there is still some cultural similarities to the Russians but i suppose that is hard to avoid given the history.

Agreed. Although, I think the "east shield initiative" would be diverting too much money toward the wrong area. The biggest problem in European defense isn't border security, it's the lack of uniformity between the nations's militaries. In the event of a war, most nations would take month to mobilise their full force because the fuel, munitions and repair parts needed for their specific models of tanks, planes, artilery and guns aren't currently present in suficient quantitie in eastern countries.

Instead, Germans whine about "human rights breaches" in Croatia because we do not allow illegals to come in, we kick them back to Bosnia. This is a political problem, not the problem of ability to secure borders. Now imagine what we could do if EU would help with funds and manpower. As a Pole, I have high hopes for the Polish presidency of the EU - at an ideal time, a “new Europe” frontline state is taking on this role due to the start of what is likely to be the final phase of the war in Ukraine, but also due to the election of Trump as US president, whose intentions are absolutely unpredictable - Poland can really benefit its own security, but also that of the EU as a whole due to Poland's hardline resistance to Russia and European dependence on Russian raw materials, as well as its support for Ukraine since the start of the war. I'm counting on Poland to successfully push the EU-wide project of rearming member states, joint production of munitions (perhaps even some funding of armaments for EU frontline states), without ignoring the interests of Central Europe, which is often a huge bone of contention in my region with other EU states, but nevertheless, most of our interests are common, so as Europe we need to be as united as possible to survive and be strong in this dangerous world. As a member of Generation X, I have vivid memories of the Western humanitarian support from the "West" during the 1980s. In the 90s, as an adolescent and young adult, I often looked with envy at Germany, France, Italy, and other affluent nations. My friends and I aspired to live there and become part of the European community. By the 2000s, Poland joined the EU, and I had already experienced living in various countries, both inside and outside the EU. This gave me unique insights into Poland’s progress and standing. Now, in 2025, the world has changed. I am proud of how far we have come and what we, as the people of Poland, have achieved. Europe, we must unite now more than ever. While some in Ireland, Portugal, or Slovenia may not see it, Italy, Malta, Greece, the Baltics, and Poland are facing real challenges, not trivial ones like the fastening of plastic bottle caps (which we all despise from Lisbon to Helsinki!). Listen to Poland now. We have a historical right to be concerned about what is happening in the East, and we fervently hope that no ally will betray us again. Remember, many of us no longer see the West as a "promised land." We have found it here. We have grown economically, with the help of the EU but driven by our own determination. We want our expertise to be acknowledged and our voices to be heard.

Save Europe? Let’s not get carried away. Poland’s doing great-for itself. They’ve been cashing in on billions of euros in EU funds every year, thanks to the Western countries footing the bill. That’s how they’ve built their shiny infrastructure and grown their economy. But let’s not pretend they’re out here fighting for Europe. Poland looks out for Poland, full stop. They’re always playing the "national interest" card and only cooperating with the EU when it suits them. If anything, they owe their success to the Europe they’re supposedly “saving.”

The so-called “right-wing” parties play the nationalism card but are mainly about consolidating power and dividing society, while any opposition is too weak or disorganized to offer real solutions. Instead of focusing on what’s “left” or “right,” Poland needs leaders who actually care about the people and the country’s future, not just about clinging to power or keeping up appearances. It's a difficult game for our PM. I will explain briefly our internal affairs in Poland. In 15X 2023 there was historical elections in Poland with highest turnout in history of free Poland. Tusk made coalition government with left, conservative farmer party and liberal center party. So there is 4 parties ruling now. Previous government pushed politics to its boundaries, broad daylight corruption, scandals, but even worse - they made invasion on judiciary system, for 8 years they could do anything because they had their government and president. Now president is finishing his second turn, but for more then a year since 15X 2023 he has been blocking, vetoing every single law change that was not ok for past government politicians. So people are kinda pissed off now because his promises are being blocked. So that's why we need to choose president from Tusk political party, candidate is Rafał Trzaskowski whom is very popular and have biggest chance to win, but we don't take nothing for granted. If we loose this election, it's over for polish democracy, there will be probably sped up parliamentary elections, because blocking president will be disaster. Please fingers crossed for Poland as I'm really scared on what will happen in may.

@@danydms1 You're missing the bigger picture! Sure, foreign companies profit, but Poland benefits way more. Think about it: those companies pay taxes there, they create jobs, and those wages go straight into the pockets of Polish workers. And let's be real - profit from a product isn’t the holy grail for a country. The real treasure is the production line - the factories, the logistics, the entire ecosystem around it. Every machine, every worker, every truck delivering goods generates value in Poland.

Honestly, I don't even want EU countries to spend more. What I want is more focus on Russia as realistic threat and support to Ukraine as part of that defense. In short term, I think supporting Ukraine is actually really good way to increase our security. Other than that, I wish we would focus on military industry. Both to support Ukraine, and our preparedness. Rest should also be improved upon, but I think those things can be focused on more slowly for now. Ultimately, Ukraine need equipment, and in case of war, we would need capacity for it too. Not to mention if we wish to actually have capacity for defense and make our armies better, we do need that industry. Purely from selfish point of view, I think Ukraine will be good place to test our weapons, transfer our old stuff and give incentive to make new stuff. If countries at back with lots of people and money would be smart, they would be capitalizing on this hardcore, they could revitalize their military industry, and instead of buying stuff from outside EU or giving straight up money to Ukraine, we could be supplying weapons. But clearly they are not. Somehow even aid in % numbers is led by countries on border with Russia. Personally I just don't think there's greater priority for short or long term than industry and technology. What I want is correct prioritization of resources and actual action.

Not entirely true. Italy is ramping up their armed forces, France. But yeah, Belgian and the Netherlands only think in making money and not in spending it for the benefit of the EU and all Europe. Germany has no leadership since Kohl, but one big problem is that Van der Leyen was Ministry of Defense of Germany (we all know the state of things on the German armed forces since she was their minister) and now, for some years in fact, is the President of the European Commission - I would rather have a Polish there instead of her and I'm from the more western country in Europe. Greece is doing what that can and the EU really can't complain. Hungary and Slovakia are currently the EU clowns. Bulgaria should also do more but they're out of pocket... Spain also could do much more, with a very low GDP % for defense, and so Portugal but also a not so rich country and of only 10M inhabitants, still they could and should perform better - they're trying but also, as Bulgaria, out of pocket and with no military industry at all, and they should start from there rehabilitating their industry. Ireland is just a Fiscal Paradise for IT giants, like Apple, Google, etc..

"The TRIO refers to a pre-established group of 3 EU Member States which hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union (except for the Foreign Affairs configuration) for a total of 18 months and which work closely together over that period. Each member of the trio chairs all configurations of the Council for a 6-month period, except for the Foreign Affairs configuration." Six months is not enough to provide significant input. Therefore the presidency lasts 18 months. Each presidency is led by three states with one of them kept at the front.

Practical border control at the planned fortification sites you just showed in the previous map is currently a Frontex responsibility. And Frontex members are the Schengen countries, not the EU countries. Why show Ireland on that map but exclude Norway and Switzerland? That doesn’t make sense on its face. Now it is the role of the nationalist movements and hence it is more difficult to recognise. Many people get tricked. Don't believe TikTok.

And what is this "dark story". Having the goverment that wasn't liked by EU mainstream and was toppled by financial blackmail from Comission? What's the point of being free from Russia when we're a German Land? Oh maybe you start yapping about rule of law which Tusk breaks even more than PiS did, but he's "their man" so who cares if he ignores court rulings, takes over media without a legal basis to do so, etc. I'd appreciate if the EU stopped meddling with our elections.
@MyPrideFlag
@MyPrideFlag 2 күн бұрын
Basically because Tusk (with support from EU) criticizes reforms of justice system that happened under PiS he just ignores rulings of the highest court and constitutional tribunal when they don't suit him (otherwise they work normally). For example PKW (national election comittee), an institution where his people have a slight advantage over Kaczyński's people decided to take away campaign money from Law and Justice. The Highest Court decided that Law and Justice should get it's campaign money like every other party. So PKW decided to give them the money. But Tusk tweeted "It looks to me that they won't get any money". The minister of finances still refuses to give them the money for campaign despite the ruling of the Highest Court and the decision of PKW. Because in this instance they believe that "this is not a court". But in other cases it is a court and they acknowledge other rulings. It's because they want to ensure victory in presidential election by any means nessecary. They already took over state media, foreign media support them and now their biggest rivals won't even have money to promote their candidate. That's how real "liberal democracy" looks like. But because Tusk is German and Brussels puppet, it's OK. Tusk is already repaying debts by spending public money to subsidize purchase of used German electric cars. Or he green light Germans to take over port in Świnoujście. He crippled the CPK airhub project which could be a competition to Berlin and Frankfurt. He canceled all investments to make Odra a navigable river. Fur Deutchland.

The polish presidency could be the game changer provided it is used yo actually strengthen the EU. First Poland needs to withdraw its support for Orban, Hungary will need to act like a EU member state not as forward pawn for Russia to destabilise the union. His ideas on building up the EU’s defence industry is long overdue. The EU needs to stand on its own feet not rely on questionably allies. Energy security an absolute necessity, to reach that Europe will have to both nuclear and green. The situation now leaves the union open to blackmail by its suppliers. Ir would also be nice if German political leaders realised there is no going back to the old days of cheap energy and put their full weight behind energy independence it would also be nice if they left their policy of appeasing Russia and really build up their military capabilities. Controlling immigration that doesn’t benefit the host countries needs to be controlled Poland has done that and is reaping the rewards from that policy.
