Thank you for an excellent video! I first visited Oxford (on a bus-spotting trip) 61 years ago. Even then the traffic congestion was horrendous. But back in 1962 the congestion was all around Carfax (the cross roads at the west end of 'The High') which was open to all forms of traffic. On this trip Carfax was quiet, and all the congestion was at the road junction just east of Magdalene Bridge.

The problem in Oxford right now is that the route in from the west, going under the bridge at Oxford Station was closed only recently for what I think is about a year, as the bridge is being replaced entirely as part of a massive upgrade & rebuild at the Station. That means all traffic is being displaced onto other routes in and out of the city, hence the congestion.

@Eurasia Transport Explorer It was iinteresting that there was over 350 coach journeys between Oxford and London but only 14 between Cambridge and the Capital. the development of the Oxford Marylebone line killed a lot of the traffic. My wife and I use the Oxford Tube now.

When I was a student in Oxford 40 years I used to take the 190 290and the 390 buses from Oxford to London and vice versa It was a beautiful journey through the towns Seeing this trip brings back many good memories and I miss them now that I am 10 thousand miles away

We had 5-7 of these type of Volvo buses in Dumfries for the X74 route to Glasgow. Mostly 65-reg but a couple of 62-reg were thrown into the mix later on. Sadly though Stagecoach for some reason have removed the vehicles from the Dumfries depot and replaced them with buses that are very poor by comparison.

Took one of those Volvo coaches you mentioned on route X74 few years ago (you can still able to find that visual tour on our channel😂). Can’t believe now is using ordinary bus on this long distance route. Even those old Enviro200/300.

@@EurasiaTransportExplorer I know I watched one of your videos on board one of the 65-reg vehicles. Lovely and comfortable, great views and tinted windows. Unfortunately they have taken several of Plaxton Elites that had been sitting at the back of various Stagecoach depots around the UK, painted them up in the yellow and gold, and given them a quick service before sending them up to Dumfries. A couple of them are private registrations, so you're guess is as good as mine when it comes to determining how old they actually are. There's a 60-reg from Wales, a 61-reg from Dundeen, and about 3 63-regs registered in Birmingham but were sent down from Fife. The seats in them are poor, you keep sliding off them, plus the engines and bodywork have all seen better days. I have a neighbour who still drives a day or two every week for Stagecoach and he says that they aren't good, and could understand why people wouldn't want to travel on them. A pity really.
