The EU is concerned that Russia may try to wreak economic and political havoc in Europe in the winter in retaliation for its support of Ukraine. It's now preparing for the possibility Russia will cut gas deliveries completely after sharp reductions.

Technically speaking, you can have economical sanctions against specific industries/imports/exports, without having sanctions against all of the industries/imports/exports in a relations to a certain country.

Brazil has over 15 ft.³ trillion of natural gas on reserve if theoretically one were to send dozens or hundreds of ships I’m sure they could set up a system in the meantime that would work in conjunction with international set up however I believe Brett Brazil is a member of bric However the money that they would receive would in enhance the Brazil’s economy greatly so that would be a back up plan on the other hand Greenland has a ton of national yes but Denmark would have to start boring and drilling and setting up the equipment and they have to start doing it quickly

@@jakepistolero OPEC controls oil prices. Everyone selling oil makes the largest profits during scarcity when they can use world events to raise oil prices. Europe is a large group of independently thinking countries. Do you also lump all African countries together or you think South America has only one voice? I've seen some grumbling about oil prices from the media but have yet to see any continents complaining about it, especially that dang Antarctica. What are you really trying to say? Are you blaming Russia and trying to back yourself up with Europe and America?

You're forgetting, that Ruzzian economy is already tanking and once the gas payments from Europe stop completely, it will tank BIG TIME. Yes, it will hurt Europe, but gas and oil make up half of Ruzzia's exports.. it's not going to be pretty on that side either.

You can have a population of 5 billion, but if only a small fraction of them can actually afford to buy your product, then it doesn't make a difference. You could sell far more to a country with a much smaller, but wealthier population. That is the point.

Why can't Russia sanction EU the way EU is sanctioning Russia? Till now, Russia is just taking the EU sanction so to retaliate to such hostility Russia too can sanction EU by not entertaining EU's request for energy. This will hurt EU and throw EU nations in chaos. And since EU started the economic war on Russia, Russia should reciprocate by hitting them where it hurt most!

of course Russa can sanction the EU- but Russia needs to live with the consequences. EU will find alternatives. They work very hard on this and have already made a. lot of progress. Russia in return is loosing it's biggest customer and the key money contributor to its already week economy. The problem ist on the Russian site- the short term trouble on the EU sit.

@@goblinslayer6375 Germany was forced by 🇺🇸🇬🇧 to put sanctions & close Nordstream pipeline. It was easy for them because they are not on the continent land mass & neither are they dependent on Russian fossil fuel(basic need). US was dependent on fertilizer(basic need), so they removed it from list.

Indeed. Nord Stream 2 is owned by Gazprom and financed half by it and half by outside investors. If all this money was spent and borrowed for nothing it could prove to be devastating for Gazprom if the Russian government does not bail them out and then it will be devastating for the Russian government.

@Anonymous Bosch What lead you to this conclusion? According to statista in 2021 Germany alone bought 23.7% of Gazprom natural gas exports while China only bought 3.5%. And it still remains that to built Nord Stream 2 and 1, Gazprom invested and borrowed tons of money. For this all to be for nothing could prove to be devastating for the company.

Its not sustainable otherwise what took them so long to use it 100%? if its cheaper they would of stop taking gas from Russia longgg time ago. Take france for example when heat waves come they had to shut down half of their nuclear reactors that helps to produce electricity. Wind? not so much Solar? Europe only have summer to collect those energy. the best and convenient way is to use gas. those elctricity they are using right now is produced with gas. and they dont have gas

@@jmmbuthia Russia is selling at a discount, and when the oil prices INEVITABLY DROP, they will be in for long winters themselves because russia will try to pump more oil out at even lower prices, and guess who will suffer? Average russian citizens. The fact that pro-russians use this as a talking point shows how little they think about long-term strategic stability, and only focus on how to spite their perceived enemies for one winter. This is a war and what Russia is doing with gas cut should be expected. It’s funny how NATO politicians are acting all surprised 😂. NATO kicked Russia out of the swift system and expects to get free gas 😂. I just feel bad for all the Middle East and African countries who depend on Russian and Ukraine wheat and are going hungry. More than 40% of the wheat come from Russia and Ukraine.

And to again use your words to answer: Then what would Russia expect that other countries support the defenders of said sovereign neighboring country and impose sanctions on Russia? Let's face it: Putin brought that on himself. He can retaliate all he likes with sanctions of his own, but in the end, he brought it on himself. Well Russia in the last 31 years has been at war for 30 years, in some years in up to 5 wars and Russia is more brutal and cruel in these wars, scorched earth, executing civilians and many rapes, etc. and the causes for wars are much more selfish, many of these wars were for land while US mainly wages war against dictators while still a bad idea its much better than what Russia is doing. And EU is naive, they should have known Russia would eventually turn further and further west so NATO membership is the only defense these countries have.

By enforcing harsh measures like several rounds of fundamental sanctions, and seizing Gazprom storages and pipelines, Germany has taken dubious but wonderful measures. When they have to provide ANY medium to large unit for NATO exercises they have to strip gear from other units to have enough people with gear for the exercise.

This isn't because of Germany's dependence on Russian gas in opposition to Trump. This is because the West sanctioned Russia, but didn't come up with a plan on what they would do without it, or if Russia retaliated and stopped delivering gas. Like they just expected Russia to help them transition off Russian gas. They should have looked for alternatives and a plan for the winter, before they applied the sanctions.

The Russians would be silly to supply the EU with gas when the EU as supplying the Ukraine with weapons. The EU in the United States, did it to themselves with bad policies. There are plenty of resources outside Russia but the green agenda has caused the EU and USA dependent on Russian resources, the green thing to do was always extract it as close as use it as possible instead of wasting it on transporting it.

The UK just bid in off shore wind at 44 euros per megawatt vs 110 Euros for Hinkley Point C and 5 years to bring twice the capacity on line that has taken a decade for Hinkley Point C. @@deanbarnett8538 I would be careful about all options trading one oil baron for a different one only risks building more stranded assets as we approach the end of the ff era. I would focus on wind solar and geothermal heating. Also increased building insulation in places where it is lacking apparently that is a big problem still in the UK according to the insulate Britian movement anyway. But as oil is a global market all of NATO should make a war time effort to transition away from ff. If we did this globally we could easily replace the demand that Russia produces.

US and EU also uses Oil and Gas as a weapon of war, No ? Looking at the 7 stages of sanction, the reduction of import of Gas and Oil overtime, except for Hungary who veto those sanctions. On June 3, the European Union adopted a sixth package of sanctions, including a partial embargo on Russian oil. The sanctions will ban seaborne imports of Russian crude oil as of December 5, 2022, and ban petroleum product imports as of February 5, 2023..

Given the number of sanctions on Russia, it is amazing if not commendable that Russia continues to supply Europe with Gas.Any country, especially the US or Europe itself would have cut off gas completely given a similar situation.The US and UK have hijacked and pushed Europe into a tight corner. It is going to take a lot of effort for them to recover.

I`m amazed by the short sightedness of especially the German government. The Germans are generally very smart people but their politicians are not being very smart. They like to keep Washington happy with them but they need to think of their own people who are going to suffer as the result of their current actions.

Money is nice and you don't want to turn off gas in the summer. In December the war will stop and its going to be sanctions or gas. Putin wants to be friends again in the long run. 🙄

The EU will be better off without the much needed gas this winter, we are proud to say we are going on to freeze this cold season approaching, hopefully it's not the same as summer just the other way round

The free market is suppose to provide a solution to this when the alternatives are less expensive. Off shore wind contracts in the UK are now the least expensive form of energy generation costing 1/4 that of gas powered electricity

The issue is other countries with gas have contracts in place and they need to honour those first and then whats left they can sell to Europe or whoever they want. You can`t replace Russian gas and oil over night. It will take years and years to build infrastructure.

Reboot may entail Europe going back in time to the 1950s. Obviously European prosperity is based on cheap energy, cheap Russian energy. Maybe that will be good, going back to work for small money like your grandfathers and fathers did. This should clear up why it's a really bad idea to be hesitant about supporting Ukraine in their defence. If and when Russia cuts the gas supply, it will be very good in the long run and nothing to be sad or fearful about. Adapt and move on. Time for an Energiewende transition for real. We cannot surrender to imperialist fascists in the Kremlin.

It's actually ridiculous that fossil gas now is considered sustainable in the European Union, and coal burning is of course even worse. Scientists have told us for decades what needs to be done, but Germany has by and large ignored both climate change and the huge security risk energy dependence on Russia constitutes. I think Germany should be a leader, not a liability and failure, on these issues.

No worries, communist regimes in Eastern Europe were far more terrible than anything Russia can do economically. We've managed with rationed gas, rationed electricity , almost no warm water and food scarcity before. Bring it on Russia !

Yes, hurts Europe, but don't confuse Putins poker-face with winning. You realize that by actually using it as leverage, Russia has caused a situation where all of its most important customers are going to quit them sooner or later. He can choose to make it more painful, in hopes of getting anything out of it, but he can't change the EU phasing out russian Gas and Oil over the next few years.
