I think Russia supply gas to respect the previous agreement obligation.. At this time and future Russia will not supply gas in cheap rate and other raw materials to the unfriendly western countries. Energy have vast market. Russia have no need of energy supply to western countries at present. How EU expect after throwing stone to his neighbour in regular basis for a good relation. NATO is barking in the door steps of Russia. Old pipeline should maintain monthly ( not yearly).

Almost all Norwegian gas IS already delivered to Europe and production is running on highest possible gear. Norway herself does not use a lot of gas. Peak oil production was i 2001, but still more than 90 percent of the oil is sold to Europe or used for domestic supply. New gas fields are planned, but these do take many years to develop. Offshore production is much harder and more expensive than land based production. As for UK, the production is not that big anymore. They developed and used a lot of their resources at an early stage and UK is dependent on importing. BTW, the redeveloped Danish gas field Tyra will go on-line next year and the Dutch could extend the Groningen production. But this causes major geological issues, like damaging earth quakes on shore.

Nope. Russia and Iran both have the largest gas reserves in the world. Russia supplies Europe with 150 billion cubic meters of gas a year. No one can replace that amount and at a relative cheap cost to the EU. Azerbaijan two days ago signed a deal with the EU to increase its production and will provide the EU with 12 billion cubic meters of gas to the EU a very small drop in the bucket. FYI the USA promises to provide 50 billion cubic meters of LNG by...2030. and this may not happen due to changing market conditions especially as the EU is pursuing a green agenda.

If we really would all in green there would be no big recession even without russian gas. We could built the worlds biggest solar panel production lines around the still running nuclear power plants and use them to produce the silicium, the wafer and the panels. Together with the needed workforce to built the solar systems we would need hundreds of thousands of workers. The military industry could also double their workforce for the time being and also give a percentage to the growth.

The problem is the sun does not shine at full strength every hour of every day of the year. Also with current technology, solar panels have a 20- to 25-year lifespan at most, & are toxic to the environment once they're disposed of. Not to mention the thousands of square kilometers that would have to be covered by solar panels in order to power a modern metropolis...you can't just put a few panels on rooftops & say "okay, we're in business!" All that land would be incapable of supporting any wildlife as long as you have solar arrays standing on it.

Solar provides like 5% of it's capacity in winter in northern europe because the days are short and cloudy. It's basically useless. Never understood why countries like Germany went so big on solar. It will never make up more than a tiny portion of total energy usage in northern europe unless batteries become much cheaper and mass producable.
@ernstschwaig4667

@@ssssaa2 Solar can produce energy all year long. During winter month the output is lower, but in summer the production can partly be used to produce hydrogen which can be used in winter to heat. Half the year we could produce 150%, with 50% for hydrogen production, in winter time up to 50% with a gap of 50% filled by hdrogen. It's one peice of the green puzzle.
