You've heard of the concept of relative in tennis? Nadal was seemingly immortal, until he faced Djokovic in the finals, and looked like a school-boy, and barely got a few games!! Federer just had a bad day, and did one of his usual brain farts, otherwise, he would have beat, both Rafa and Djokovic!

@@wava2187 Nadal is constantly mixing up his play patterns. Even a couple of years ago he did not attack nearly as often let alone approach the net so aggressively. Also, he is perfecting the balance of aggression and not making errors. If you could just 'overpower' opponents in tennis Nadal would have no competition at all look at the size of him lol.
@wava2187
@wava2187 5 жыл бұрын
@@DjokovicIsOurLordAndSaviour Listen man, you're obviously a Nadal fan as I was making a broader comment about the modern style of tennis, notice how I didn't mention him by name for that reason, but this idea that Nadal is constantly mixing up his play patterns or whatever is nonsense, he has fairly basic and similar plays and much of it revolves around hitting the forehand.....hard. He said himself two days ago that he isn't any more aggressive now than he ever has been so you are spouting falsehoods that the man himself doesn't agree with. Power and physical size aren't mutually exclusive by the way. And having a big arm doesn't mean you will never lose at tennis, the margins are tiny. But his power is exactly how Nadal changed the game, a change that I don't always enjoy watching but can appreciate nonetheless, which is exactly what I said in my original comment.
@DjokovicIsOurLordAndSaviour

@@wava2187 I don't see what power has to do with it. His forehand is unique because of it's topspin which isn't generated by strength but racquet head speed. the entire road to the final hinted that Nadal wanted to just tank roll over everyone and take the title, his determination was visible in every point. What happened in the final is just mind boggling, Nadal's mental did a 180 and was completely unrecognizable in court presence or aggression. I would really love to see him talk freely about that failure, his previous responses did not seem convincing enough, almost as if he doesn't want to admit novak was in his head

Just brilliant! Like many, I thought last year would be Nadal's peak form, and it would be so-so after that. The change of coaching is really getting the best out of him. Nadal should have done it sooner. If he had, maybe he would have won more Aus. Open titles than just the one. In the form of his life. Nadal's stamina and energy throughout the match were amazing against a 20-year-old. Wow! Everyone talks about Federer's fitness being at another level. Nadal doesn’t get mentioned that much as Federer is the media's favourite. In this blistering form, there are many slam wins in him. Great to see the oldies can still do it.

He's a handsome lad with a skinny ass and boney shoulders. He needs to be able to hit with more weight and power. 1:38 Body moving backwards; shot penetration as piercing as any. This is demonstrative of the greatest forehand to grace the courts. Especially nowadays. As mentioned before, it used to be Fed but not no more. Rafa's running DTL, an established apex. In general, it's got the consistency, it's equipped with error extraction. It has ever-changing elevation and so chameleon-esque with it's various spin and speed rates. What's left? Oh yeah, just the jury remains on the inside out as there's some misers of Federer's opposing reality.

All of Nadal/Tsitsipas matchs were epic after that. Nadal beat him twice in the WTF in 3 sets. Saved match points in Barcelona Final. And Tsitsipas beat him twice. Great tactical display by Nadal, Tsitsipas showed a lot of inexperience - too many sliced backhands, running round his forehand and not finishing off points. Also Tsitsipas opening up the angles too early in points suits Nadal. You can't beat him like that even when he's out of form - you need to hit flatter, harder backhand and also time much better when you come to the net. I suppose playing Nadal is a specific learning experience so Tistsipas should learn from that, he's great to watch. But on Sunday Djokovic to win, he is so tactically astute and knows how to beat Nadal on a hard court.

Ha good joke. I hope it's a classic on Sunday - I'm not a Djoko supporter, he just gets everything back remember - Nadal loves it when his opponents Tsitsipas go for winners and big shots, opening up the court. @@matteo964 that is the same excuse people can make for Tsitsipas apart from the obvious lack of experience. It is the opponent that makes you play bad , both Tsitsipas and Nadal said so in their press conf. In this game, Nadal set the pace and the opponent couldn't follow, in the final it was Nole simple as that.

Tsitsipas said after the match he would like to know how Federer has been beating Nadal in the past, given that his own game is similar to Federers one. But you don't have to be an expert to see that his BH shots are far too short. That's probably one of the reasons why Nadal had no problems going for his winners.

This is the Rafa all over again. Committed and resolute, characteristics that Federer experiences only remotely. Federer showed total lack of tact in his game against Tsitsipas. No surprise he was beaten. Were Nadal in this mindset in his AO against Federer he would have severely humbled Fed.

You know that there is something called matchup in tennis, Stef playing someone like Fed who he modled his game on and admire and know very well your whole career so you play your best to beat and playing Nadal a lefty with more topspin, a different game, still 2 at the world, is not the same thing.
