I guess at least we have the illusion of a close race till stage 14. But to be honest, I dont think it will be close, with 3 out of the 4 top contenders having their preparation seriously hampered. That will factor into how deep their energy reserves are. But good form by Remco so far, maybe he can go podium in Paris. I've had gear issues like that. Can't get into the 11. Another way is to shift up 3 or 4 gears, then shift very quickly till it reaches the 11. A little momentum is the goal.

I don't see him winning a mountain-top finish either, and there are no more descent finishes that play to his strengths. The only stage Evenepoel can realistically win is the last ITT, and that depends on how tired he is after being destroyed in the mountains by the superior climbers.

I really hope so but he is possibly a year a way from really mixing it with them, Roglic is prob the best of the rest but still too far away from the big two. A big shout out for Jonas who is amazingly keeping himself in with a shout, most seem to think he will ride himself into form as the race gets into the third week, but considering the crash, injuries and lack of proper prep a top 5 place would seem unbelievable....so hopefully Remco can push The Pog all the way.

We've only had one serious mountain stage and one ITT, and Pogi took more time out of Evenepoel on the climb than Evenepoel took from Pogi on the ITT. I expect Evenepoel to do well in the mountains but lose time on most of those stages, putting him out of reach of yellow even with a miraculous final ITT result. He may still get a podium finish though, if UAE burns through their climbers to counter a strong Vingebot or a surging Roglic.

You have these 'freaks' (respectfully) that were built for things like a TdF (Merckx comes to mind). Is Remco one of them, I doubt it but that doesn't make him less of a rider to keep your eyes on. I like his aggresive style in Flandrs Classics. To be honest, those are still more exciting to me than a TdF where everything becomes more ChatFPT instead of winning on a supermarket bike.

Evenepoel is kind of a nutty guy... but I like that about him. One day he's getting dropped out of the back of the peloton and the next he's soloing off the front for 50k to win the stage. Or he's crashing. Or talking some shit. You can tell he's emotional and rides with that emotion. So I'm glad to see him win a stage at the Tour. He's a personality that I hope stays in the peloton for a few more seasons at least. But in general I hate time trial stages and think they are stupid and pointless and inject too much uncertainty into the GC results. Especially these short time trials. What a waste of an entire day of racing. In the olden days (i.e just a few years ago) the time trials were longer and more difficult and more interesting. This stage was 15 fvcking miles. 15 miles. That's 30 minutes on the bike for these guys. 1/2 hr. What kind of bullshit time trial is THAT? They should be AT LEAST an hour long... if not longer. And this one had only 875 ft of elevation gain. I get that much climbing riding around my neighborhood for an hour. The longest iTT in Tour history was 139k in 1947. Now THAT is a time trial. These are PRO riders... why aren't they being treated like it--challenged like it. I'd rather see either NO TT's or LONGER / HARDER TT's... but instead of using the actual time differences in the TT's I'd rather see BONUS seconds awarded... so the results don't skew the final GC results too much.

We've got an Apex Champion here. To make sure, a bike has two wheels, has a steering wheel (does that make three??? I'm pondering). All joking apart, the way he handles it, makes sure that the line he goes through those three consecutive bends, yields him the best straight line. It's about the opposite of a bad line. So all the Vinegar fanboys, oh he gets better as the tour progresses. WHAT? He had serious injuries like Pog last year, he had a severely interrupted prep like Pog last year. You don't ride yourself into race form in a 3 week tour, you survive, some better than others. Vinegar will lose time as the tour goes on, he is still recovering, and his body will let him know towards the end of the 2nd week. Pog is in great form, although still recovering from the effects of covid. Pog will win if no major crashes, Rolic will be second, perhaps 5 minutes, Remco 3rd at maybe 8 minutes. But as any racing cyclist knows, anything can happen, 1 bad day and that's it.

Was his wrist the reason he crumbled in the end also? And year before that? I get liking Tadej he seems like a nice guy, but it’s hard to get behind a sports washing team like UAE. Jonas actually had a really serious injury and could not train. I’m just happy to see him here… Wout also had one too. History has always shown us Jonas gets better as it goes on and Tadej burns out.
