The idea is to have a complete rundown of the show to see if there are any glitches. I think they pluck the fake qualifiers out of a hat, so there are always some that don't really get through in the live semi-final - I guess that's their only moment of triumph! You'll notice that the green room has just a stand in for each country, and they come and stand by the balcony for the final shot of the qualifiers. Last year we went to the live semi-final and it was very interesting to see the differences. It was a great show, and the people in front of us who arrived late were Australian as you might have picked up from their flags and my comments. We flew in from the UK, stayed in Copenhagen (cheaper...well a bit) and got the train to Malmö. Made a great holiday too.

Well, hearing Ireland's input here shines a very different light on the whole collection of troubled situation this year and how Bambi reacted to EBU afterwards during interviews. The sound of Bambi's voice sounded clearer than it did on tv, taking into account how it would sound if this video in fact would have been a broadcast. On tv, it sounded distorted during the louder parts, but in this video it doesn't. They sound check this before the show, so trusting it would be allright on tv when you hear this here, that gets me thinking about the sound department deliberately having distorted the sound. Ireland was considered one of the favorable countries in terms of performance, aside from Switserland, Croatia, France, Italy, Ukraine, Israel and the Netherlands. I can't help but suspect that they orchestrated they in order for Bambi's text not to be heard very clearly. This video indicates that. The song wouldn't have been my choice, because I was hoping for Joost's succeess, but that's not the point. EBU and several judge teams have already been accused for manipulating the contest (including for political reasons), and this indicates that they're not entirely innocent.
@timsharp3 ай бұрын
Very interesting. Please see my separate video that has nearly all Bambie Thug's performance and see what you think kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZa3eYqfe5t1ptk. The first part was filmed on my old camcorder, the last part of the video is selected bits from the song, filmed on a new Osmo Pocket 3, the sound is very different on both. Maybe she didn't perform it quite as well at the final? I thought this performance was outstanding.
@williamwilting3 ай бұрын
@@timsharp Well, the performance I've seen is the one from the semi final. I didn't watch the final, because I wasn't at home at that time, and I wouldn't watch it if I was, just out of protest against the EBU for their one-sided decision making about what happened to different countries backstage, most notably with the Netherlands, of course. So, I've seen the same thing as you, allthough I think the first part of that video you linked is probably the judges rehearsal show, which was not on tv. This is no professional footage (I guess), but it can give some indication of what people could expect of the professional footage on tv. Perhaps the performances itself with both cameras you used is different, but in both cases the enviromental sound (for example the crowd and the instrumental part of the music) is pretty clear to me, or at least it would give me an indication of how it could be on tv. The only real problem with the sound, in my opinion, concerns every act, because it's the acoustics of the place and how the sound is getting through in the broadcast. There were some anomalies in the vocal sound with some acts here and there on tv, including Bambie Thug's vocal sound. In Bambie's case, the voice on tv sounded distorted during the part rougher parts of the song (the 'screams'). I think that if the mic was adjusted perfectly at those moments, the words would still have been clearer to me than it was. They sound check this in the rehearsals, I presume, so I may expect better and consistent quality during the shows. Other acts had some moments in which the opposite was the case and where the sound on the mic faltered a bit. So, was this accidental, or was there more going on? It's not that I want to think in conspiracies here, but the majority of people in the world has seen this on tv, so those people would vote based on what they saw and heard there. One country that performed really well, but where the mic also seemed to falter sometimes, was France. A ballad is much easier to arrange in terms of sound than Ireland's song, so why the faltering moments? And then I heard Israel, and really, everything about that sound was or at least seemed perfect, without any anomalies. After I heard the sound here, thinking back on what I've heard during the semi finals on tv (I watched both of them) and comparing it in terms of sound as an indication for what I should expect, I can't help but think that the anomalies in the sound of the favorable acts, while Israel's act was totally fine, is suspicious to me. The only thing that works against that suspician is the Swiss act, which sounded fine as well. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame the delegations that performed better than others, but I think that the EBU has a bit of orchestration to hide.
@timsharp3 ай бұрын
You might be right, I don't know. I was surprised at how good all the acts sounded live in the hall and when we watched the live semi-final on TV, quite a few of them sounded flat - not exactly out of tune, but just lacklustre as though deadened a bit. This always seems to happen at Eurovision though and I would hesitate to say that it's done deliberately - I mean how would they be able to cover it up really - someone would make their fortune by spilling the beans wouldn't they? Thanks for your excellent comments.
@tobiewolfen014 ай бұрын
Amazing, the microphone sounds louder on this than the actual filming. 🤷♂️
@timsharp4 ай бұрын
Probably the acoustics in the hall. Also you might notice differences between clips. The close ups were all done on my old Sony HD camcorder, but some of the wider views were taken on the Osmo Pocket 4 and the sound on those clips seems much louder.

A competition of brotherhood of peoples and cultures...lol...a festival of hate, endless whining, in the style of "They stole my place. The win should have been ours" is the most watched reaction. People came with a weak song, it is unpleasant to say that many songs were terribly boring and the way to compensate for the lack of interest was with excessive theatricality not to mention sexual harassment of the audience. For me, a song is a vocal piece that I would like to hear when I drive. I don't care if the artist wore a skirt, was a Celtic voodoo magician or did an erotic cabaret show. If the song is not good, I will turn it off or switch to another station. The guy or girl who won is not a song I would like to hear. Sorry. You won, you broke the statue, you also broke the binary code, it's lucky that they broke the Enigma code 80 years ago because this generation would not have won that war and it doesn't seem like they will win with the progressive approach the huge mass of immigrants who have no problem with the binary code for them it's actually 0 or 1.
@timsharp4 ай бұрын
I can see where you are coming from. I don't agree with it all, but I can see why it might seem like this to some people. We didn't get any of the 'hate' stuff while we were there - it was just a joyous celebration of music and performance. Yes some of the songs were a bit weak, and some of the performances were over the top to compensate. But things have a way of sorting themselves out, perhaps next year won't be quite as in your face. I totally agree that it is a song contest and a song should be one you want to listen to on it's own without the performance, regardless of the way it's performed on stage. I did though, like the Swiss song and was glad when they won. Other songs I really liked were Azerbaijan, Portugal, Ireland (strangely), Italy, Sweden, Germany and Norway. I will have missed a couple that I liked. The statue breaking looked like an accident to me. Also, things do move on and although I'm now 70 years old, I can see that what we sometimes think of today's younger generation is exactly what the oldies used to think of us when we were young! As regards the non-binary, people can choose to be whatever they want, and hopefully they don't get annoyed when it causes confusion - it's still new to a lot of people. I just wish another word than 'they' had been chosen as that is already in general use!

Mind you, you were pretty extreme calling them scum :-) I do know what you mean though, it's a huge undertaking to put on a show like Eurovision and for a relatively small group of people to try to disrupt it seem unfair to the vast majority who want to enjoy it.
