Take away fleet / commercial EV sales the number of sales is tiny. If the government has to bribe the public with discounts and make false claims about environmental benefits, it’s not a great product.

Two neighbours of mine, one had a Range Rover Velar phev that caught fire while on change while he was asleep in townhouse above it. A narrow escape. Other neighbour had a Renault Zoe, which decided to switch itself off at 70mph on outside lane of motorway. Managed to get it to side of road and then it restarted. Later his mum drove it through a shop window at 15 mph because the car refused to turn or stop. One of the motors decided to do its own driving. They switch back to a petrol Corsa.

He mentioned second hand ones selling quickly but didn't actually talk about the depreciation...which everyone knows is way more than ICE. Doesn't mention how much it costs to use a fast charger. Thinks it's fine for European car manufacturers to go under just for cheaper cars
@pato101115 сағат бұрын
Used electric cars aren't worth much at the moment but neither are new ones. I changed my 3 year old ID4 for a new one and didn't loose any money as a new one is 10k cheaper than it was 3 years ago.

An utterly disingenuous interview. He knows full well he's lying regarding depreciation and the fact that electric cars are sitting on forecourts, months on end.

Look at the 2nd hand prices. Atm not many or any garages willing to fix or know how to fix ev cars. Apprenticeships of mechanics are not being tought how to fix ev's. In England its getting hard to insurance the cars.
@Bistonounou1235 сағат бұрын
You need a for and against in this interview, Derek has a KZbin channel where he reviews electric cars only , so he will be biased to the electric car as he has an invested interest. I’m not saying he’s wrong in what he says but as an ex electric car owner - he references a lot of best case scenarios. This should be more balanced .

A friend bought a brand new id4 I think for 65 65K within 18 months they sold it as it was not fit for purpose, I think it sold for 23K and they now have a Volvo xc90.

On my 2nd EV and my next car will be another one. No regrets. Saving me over €200 a month on fuel alone compared to my last ICE. Been all over the country with very little issue. We just need more multi point hubs

This is one of the most disingenuous interviews I’ve heard in a long time. Ask anyone who’s purchased an EV car and they will disagree with virtually everything this guy has said. He didn’t answer the question regarding depreciation; he just said they sell slightly slower than conventional cars. What he didn’t say is that the depreciation is substantially higher. Also he mentioned Toyota once or twice. Toyota no longer build electric cars. They do build hybrid cars, but not fully electric cars.
@eirejk770717 сағат бұрын
Such conjecture. Nissan Leaf getting free fuel because of solar panels. Having a coffee while waiting on your fast charging to complete. Most garages do not have fast charging. Lots of electric cars are not capable of taking high wattage of charging. This is all very one sided and not realistic. There should have been two opposing opinions.
@Joseph1316332 минут бұрын
The range thing he said he had 70 km left when he arrived in Belmullet ,Belmullet is very remote and the next charging point is likely to be in ballina which is an hours drive away probably within the limit but you are cutting it very fine and much the same if we went south towards castlebar.Its cutting it very very fine,there could well be a charging point in crossmolina alright but more than likely it would be the bigger towns like ballina and castlebar.
