Superchargers on my CCS vehicles (my Rivian and my Lyriq) are a last option charge stop for me. I will always stop at an available CCS charger first, which means I almost never stop at Tesla superchargers.

Audio sounds good but it would sound even better with a different hat, maybe one with Viking horns (dual antennas) :)

Really appreciate this as a new Equinox EV owner.

The same thing happened to me in my Blazer. Stopped at supercharger in Morgantown WV and had no service. This was also at a Sheetz. Had to go to Friendsville MD at a Charge Point in the middle of nowhere. This was my first long trip and was a little nervous. But it all worked out. 😊

I have a Tesla which I love 95%. lol Thinking of getting an Equinox because it has an actual headlight button and I hear the windshield wipers are better. lol Great video!

Great video. I have had pretty good luck with Tesla superchargers. The biggest issue for me is you don’t know what to expect when you arrive. Chargers were busy during the Thanksgiving weekend and I kept having this situation where the Tesla app said 4 of 8 stalls were available but since you don’t know which are are being used or the configuration of the stalls, there is no way to know if I’ll be able to park and charge. This is made worse by the fact I drive a Bolt so I don’t really want to take up two spots and make everyone wait for me. Luckily I81 in VA has a bunch of charging options so I always knew I was only an exit or two away from an alternate. Now that we have super charger access, it is pretty easy to drive in VA and NC on the fly without much planning.

didnt they say they are upgrading the info on the app recently? I dont know, I dont use it.

I’ve only have had a problem in Emporia VA with the ver.4 Tesla Chargers. Twice, on road trips from NJ to NC. Luckily there are Electrify America Chargers close by at the Walmart that work every time.. All in all, my experience with the Tesla Charging Stations have been pretty good 👍🏿..

My Mach-e has plug and charge with the supercharger network. Curious if the no cell service problem you had would be a problem. I would tend to think it would activate similarly to a Tesla car and that cell service would not be needed. However it still needs to communicate with there network.

Plug and Charge would work for you no matter the service!

Thats an issue for OEM's that have access to the Supercharger network and do not have plug and charge capability. I just don't know why CPO's are not allowing the setup of a plug in charge in their apps other than EVgo's Autocharge+ It should always be as easy as plug-in and charge. We know EA supports it with a lot of OEM's on the free plans vehicles get. Why can't a vehicle ID be tied to a users account with a valid payment method.

Ford has plug and charge with Tesla, I think Rivian does as well- that's about it for non teslas. EA seems to only offer plug and charge with VW and Audi EVs.

@shethjones4494 I know Ford and Rivian are the only two on Tesla SC network that do. But not for GM, Volvo/Polestar, Nissan. With the resources Tesla has, they could easily add the option to setup plug and charge for non-Teslas in the app. Especially if EVgo can do it. I'm not worried about it cause Tesla would be a last resort option for me. I'm just pointing out if cell service is bad at a SC location and a user's vehicle doesn't support Plug and Charge, they would be in trouble.

Makes me wonder why they don't use phone apps at gas stations? Surely the oil companies could have made getting gas harder (but arguably cooler) had they wanted.

You’re just making it crystal clear why EV’s are just not going to ever take hold until they charge faster. And of course that is coming in the not distant future. For the moment, though shame on GM for these pokey charging cars. I have a Hyundai and it blows away the charging times you were getting on an EA charger. But still not good enough for the masses

I don't really agree with this sentiment. I think the charging is fine, especially for families. I think there is a point where cars will be over engineered for what is really needed. Over 90% of people's driving is local. So DCFC is only on long trips. I am fine with this charging and if it charged faster, at least for my family, I would find myself having to rush back to the car to unplug and move then wait for my family to finish going to the bathroom, walking the dog, etc. There is too much of a focus on DCFC and not enough of a focus on making it possible for everyone to charge at home. Multi Family Dwelling and Town Homes/City Homes are the challenge, but there are solutions that could be implemented for all, if the property owners are willing. Fast charging is cool and impressive for sure, but really isn't needed for many use cases..

Go watch the I-90 Surge race from Seatle to Boston of over 3,000 miles where an ICE car finished only 2 hours ahead of the 2025 Taycan (which's charging stops were mostly 10 to 12 minutes long) and only 4 hours ahead of the $40,000 Model 3 and Ioniq 6.

@@theaverageev exactly - people who make such a big deal about charging speeds have typically never owned an EV. To me, it’s the equivalent of how people used to be with megapixels in a digital camera. It just doesn’t matter for 99% of use cases, especially when you consider the drawbacks of 800V systems charging terribly on 400V chargers due to amperage limitations.
