Helping others can actually be a way of helping yourself because it can give you a sense of purpose, connection, and meaning, and often the act of helping others can provide a perspective on your own situation that can lead to personal growth and healing. 😊 #Believe - Feb ( from Evan's team )

I think it is good for all of us to realize that, yes, perhaps due our situation, whatever struggle we are going through, that we need someone 'outside' of ourselves to help. But that 'other' person has their own set of struggles which they need to get outside help on. When you help someone else, you become that 'outside' person. Imagine all of the people who have helped you in life. Were they paragons of perfect people who never needed help? I'm going to assume they were not! It is a comforting thing to realize that we don't need to be perfect people and 'have it all together' to help others. In a way, not being able to help yourself is not a good indicator on if you can help other people. Because maybe your friend doesn't need you to fix their problem, they just need someone to listen and understand them. Maybe you are good at math and can help someone with math tutoring, but you need help on dealing with a relationship issue. Even when going through rough times in general, helping someone else lets us realize that we are not alone, no one is truly alone if they are willing to reach out a hand, whether asking for help or receiving it.

helping others can help you develop compassion and therefore self-compassion. you dont have to be perfect to help people, and it can be helping with small things, not neccessarily deep emotional issues. if you're going through something hard, you will know how to help others anyway. for example, if you're grieving you will be able to support a bereaved person because you know how they feel
