This was one of your best videos! We actually had a week every year in primary school where we got to set up a market place and sell our own products, so when I was in 3rd grade, I made $35 one day($100+ after 3 days). I went around all day asking other children and even their parents if they were interested instead of just sitting there and waiting for someone to come up to me. I also came up with new designs and versions of the products. It was a great experience and really influenced me a lot. I wish more schools would do something like this.

I agree self awareness is huge! I really hope the school systems will implement it one day, because I feel it would help with a lot of issues. That and psychological awareness. Why we think and feel certain things, and how to respond in a healthy way👍

Education doesn't stop just because a person is no longer in "formal school" and memorization only works on a small level, ive forgot more than most people will ever learn in school about the portable sawmill business, gold mining, and retailing mining equipment. Does that mean I was not successful? Nope. I make people smile and think, and that is success on a level as well..... I believe in people too, some days it is harder than others finding that belief.... but it's there..... and your videos help to reveal it!! #BTA1 #STANDOUT i am back again posting!!

FROM THE CONCLUSION SECTION FROM A PIECE I WROTE FOR MY SON CALLED "THE OWNERSHIP MANUAL FOR YOUR BRAIN": The workplace requires more and more specialized skills at an ever-increasing rate. That’s why, as time moved along, our basic education needs increased consistently and dramatically. First, we needed a grade school education for the workplace (1800’s). Then we needed a high school education. Then we needed a college education (1960’s). Today, a college education entitles you to commence your career by scouring the want ads for an entry level position. Only a graduate school education will bring recruiters to a candidate (in some cases). The point is that as the amount of knowledge continues to dramatically increase so rapidly, it will take more and more years to teach our children all the “STUFF” needed to enter the workforce with a running start. The irony is that it is still the “DREAM” of every parent to send their children to college where they may graduate with an obsolete education of stuff that will not enable them in the workplace. Granted, the social education that is received in college is a valuable asset. Living away from home, still supported by the folks, is like training wheels for a small bicycle. You can’t fall down too hard to hurt yourself and you do learn to ride by yourself. BUT, the education that is received, the stuff, soon becomes obsolete because of the rapid rate of new knowledge (It doubles every 2 and a half years). Meander warning! The first (and only) time that I went skiing, it was incredibly irritating to me that I couldn’t even use the ski lift. I am referring to the lift that drags you to the top of the “bunny” slope. I put the device between my legs and across my butt and proceeded to continuously fall down. Keep in mind that I was still somewhat of an athlete at that time and my frustration was immeasurable. What added insult to my literal injuries was that I would see multitudes of little kids swishing past me like nobody’s business! I knew I was more coordinated than they were yet, there I was, on the ground, cursing. I was told that children have a lower center of gravity and that it is easier for them to achieve balance. In fact, the youngsters had an easier time of it because they were learning at a young age. Children also have the capability of learning multiple languages at a young age. AND (whiner warning), why do I have to learn how to use my phone from a kid that told me he had the same problem with his phone that I did? (His problem happened when he was in gym class!) The answer is that you can learn certain skills better when you are younger than when you are older. I repeat: children have a lower center of gravity and it is easier for them to achieve balance (mentally, too). As you age, and the distance between your formal and structured education lengthens, it becomes more and more difficult to learn new things. Can we agree that the ability to create and enhance our brain power, by activating the Infinite Intelligence as our partner through the subconscious mind, is an extremely useful skill? If this is the case, why don’t we teach it as part of the school curriculum? Learning how to think as productively and creatively as possible has got to be as important as learning trivial information from an education system that has been archaic for many years. To properly use the Owner’s Manual for your Brain takes discipline and practice. When you are a student in school, part of the “buy-in”, from the perspective of the student, is that the teacher has a purpose and, though you may find the lesson of the day challenging, you have faith that the teacher will succeed in teaching you to a level of success. Faith is a necessary component. I speak not of religion but of the student/teacher relationship. The minds of our young are much more open and receptive to new ideas. My point is, that living in a world that demands unique specialization in all fields of endeavor, it is futile to believe that we can educate our young successfully by attempting to just teach them more and more stuff. After all, there will be twice as much to learn in two and a half years. Double that again in two and a half more years (or even faster!). Somewhere down the road, your secondary education will end when you are forty or fifty because it will take that much time to learn all the new “STUFF.” A question that you frequently asked me, Eli (especially when you didn’t feel like doing your homework), was: “How am I going to use this knowledge when I get older? Why is learning this relevant to me?” My response was paternally twofold. First, “It is not only the knowledge that you are learning, my son, it is also the skill to uncover and apply that knowledge.” Second, “Humina, Humina, Humina.” I would give you my best Jackie Gleason impression when he was embarrassingly stuck to give a reasonable answer. I must confess that it has been more than 40 years since I thought of a rhombus or considered Pi to be a numeral instead of a desert. It’s time to give our education system a rethink. Today, the focus is frequently on the regurgitation of facts (read the chapter and answer the study questions about Betsy Ross and why she was a great American. Sew what!) Or worse, learning what is needed to pass a specific standardized test where the results determine how much money a school system will receive. Perhaps we have lost our focus? I say that we should focus on teaching our kids the basics and not focus on inane facts except when that focus is reading comprehension. We should also be teaching our kids HOW to use their brains as I have outlined in the “Owner’s Manual for Your Brain.” This will enable more people to unleash, from the Universal Intelligence, the infinite supply of all that is necessary. It is waiting for unfoldment, development and expression from the ultimate supply closet. It is time for an Educational Revolution! Let’s remove the shackles from our present system of futility. It is time to partner, consistently, with the Infinite Intelligence on a conscious basis. The most productive start time to teach the skills necessary for this most useful collaboration is when our children are young, fourth or fifth grade, so that they may develop a lifelong, productive habit. You know, Eli, you can’t fight the advancement of technology. Many people live in fear that their jobs will be fazed out by consistent technological advances. When we can enlighten our workforce to be creative thinkers, new advances will be embraced rather than feared. The tweaking of our educational focus, to include creative thinking, will serve to inspire the masses from the repetitious and mundane nature of their jobs to pursue innovative and exciting new challenges. It is making progress that gives an individual juice in any endeavor. Is there anything more satisfying than creating something new and useful? Wouldn’t it be great if people lived their lives with passion instead of coasting through their work week waiting for the weekend? Our current educational system encourages conformity and discourages creativity. The ironic truth is that young children have very active imaginations. Doesn’t that suggest that nature intended us to expand this gift rather than have our schools educate it into extinction through conformity? Ideally, when our students complete their educations, they should not be a graduate (a person who has successfully completed a course of study or training). How does IMAGINEER sound? ...Eli's dad (My dream is to tweak our education system to include teaching kids HOW to think.)

#BTA130 You've made some great points, but I think the last remark you made about parents taking responsibility resonates the most. Schools have a historical, industrial and perhaps even political foundation. Reforms can happen, but it usually goes slowly. Or certain groups only have access to it. So, as a caretaker/parent you've got to guide and mold your kid to be the best person s/he can be.

I was discussing this earlier today. I am surprised that there aren't unaccredited options for education. I believe myself and other parents would willingly step outside of the current system in order to deliver a more practical and useful education that would be applicable to the way the world works today. Even music which was once unpractical and unaccesible without a label is a realistic and achievable goal today as an independent.

Evan, you need to be head of the Department of Efucation........like seriously!!!!!! This is sooooo good! Our education system needs serious help! Very little of what our children learn is realistically applicable in getting them prepared for this purpose in life. They spend lots of time in years, and we as parents spend lots of money for very little valuable information, just because the world at large has defined the path they must take toward success. It is really sad!

I'm curious about the ppl who gave this a video a thumbs down....? I thought this was great and think about these things a lot. Being an adult and parent I think of all the things I wish I could have learned in school instead of the majority of things I did learn that I never ended up needing. Learning how to save money, invest, buy a home, interview, raise a family, figure out which political party you are and how to truly understand what and who you are voting for, etc... I'm sure some of these things have changed a bit since I was in school but not enough. There are many things I didn't know about life and what it takes to be a proper involved member of society and how to make a difference and impact in a positive way..

I liked the one on being the shield. schools don't teach handwriting any more. I taught my children handwriting. My son started writing in cursive & the teacher asked him to print. My son refused & told the teacher that when they get older & have to sign documents, the kids would not know how to do that & that he was going to continue writing in cursive. Needless to say the teacher called me in. It turned out the teacher could not make out the letters in cursive. My son still learns forgotten knowledge we were privileged enough to have been taught.

Why are we letting schools raise our children in the first place? Parents, educate yourself and stop giving your childrens education away to people who do not love your kids as much as you do. Break the cycle and give your children the help that only YOU can.
