Bloodborne is easily my favorite of the Soulsborne games. I wholeheartedly agree with you that the trick weapons were special. I think I collected nearly every weapon in Elden Ring and yet I can’t remember them exactly as you had described. Sony has been holding Bloodborne hostage for so many years. I have no idea why they don’t want our money. They still haven’t released a 60 fps patch for the game. I’d love a sequel but only if Miyazaki is involved.

apparently it's to do with the contract in place, which is a renewal of the contract from demon souls. It's so backwards that they are not even allowed to port the game to PS5. They really painted themselves into a corner. See, Sony was (might still be) one of those draconian, Japanese companies that is ran by Dinosaurs (Konami is a prime example of this) where they just squander IP's because of the ego of the top execs. it's likely that Sony was embarrassed about squandering the Demon Souls licence, and not taking Dark Souls as an exclusive, so because of this, got a bit trigger happy when it came to the Blood Borne licence. I heard that the paperwork for this game is supposed to be completely backwards, and short-sighted. I mean imagine not even being able to update your own game to your new console. LoL. For all intents and purposes, Sony own Blood Borne, but they can't even use the IP neither. It's stuck on PS4, forever.

That’s the thing, I agree with you but elden ring was made to make it easier for new players. Which is why the ng+ isn’t that hard compared to other fromsoft games, I hate that a lot of things from bloodborne didn’t make it into other games. I even enjoyed the finite amount of healing items, I feel like it gave another use for your currency. Like the choice wasn’t only do I want to buy a new item or level up, it then became do I want to grind for blood vials, buy them, level up, or buy this new item. Plus if you go into the game blind there are so many moments you don’t know where to go, those moments lead into either grinding for healing or exploring. Which I think helps the hunter aspect of the game, and feel like you are who the people are truly scared of.

From my experience NG+ in any Souls game is the "revenge tour". Yes, the enemies have a bit more health and do a bit more damage, but you are way more powerful at that point. Not only have you beaten the game once already, but you have an endgame build and a maxed weapon (or 5).
@calvinpell1738Ай бұрын
@@Atum_Kami I mean elden ring is made to be more approachable, but I wouldn’t say it’s made to be easier. Bloodborne is a substantially easier game, the bosses simply don’t require nearly as much of you as elden ring bosses do. To me, there’s no denying that fewer weapons with more versatility is preferable over multitudes of similar weapons. However I don’t think not carrying these things over to other games is a “mistake”. I’m reminded by the quotes from Miyazaki from the recent DonDonRV making of videos, where ‘Zaki said of Dark Souls/Elden Ring that the idea is to offer as many options as possible to invite variation in character builds. I *think* this is part of the reason we haven’t seen trick weapons again… yet! I do hold hope that fewer weapons will return in the future! Cool video. I've never seen your channel before, but this showed up in my recommend feed, and I enjoyed it. Also, I know no one else likes it, but I will forever sing the praises of the Reiterpallasch. It's a thrusting weapon, which kin are weak too. It's a projectile weapon that can still be buffed with fire paper and bolt paper, unlike the Rifle Spear. You can bait fast enemies into an easy parry by attacking twice with it in its transformed state and then shooting with it. Two attacks frequently makes the AI want to attack you, so you get an easy parry. If you go heavy on Bloodtinge, you can still buff your left hand gun with the Bone Marrow Ash and do a normal damage parry with the right hand gun. This will put the enemy in a staggered state, which still makes them take extra damage from any attack, not just a visceral. That Bone Marrow Ashed Evelyn does so much damage that way. The Reiterpallasch is not the most powerful weapon, especially since if you go Bloodtinge the Chikage is right there, but it'll still be my favorite FromSoft weapon.

Only a third of the way through the video, but there's something kinda unfair that you're doing. I'll preface this by saying I'm not a fan of Elden Ring, at all, and that Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time. That being said, I think the thing you're missing is that Bloodborne is insanely linear and the other is a massive, open world game that wants you to explore and does so by rewarding you with weapons, ashes, and spells. I think you would've been better off had you compared Bloodborne to any Dark Souls game, but perhaps - like the (kinda) misleading title - you decided to farm the most recent and popular title instead, odd comparisons be damned.

Yes, it’s popular for the speed run glitch but as soon as I found it in Elden ring, I used it for the rest of the game because it had the same stagger potential from bloodborne and a really good bleed effect (plus it was super fun to use). It missed nothing to me. Also the saw cleaver is literally the best weapon in the game pretty much, with anything higher dps having drawbacks in other forms. All speed runs use it because it has high dps with lower stamina use and it’s transform attack does massive limb damage very quickly. Maybe saw spear is a slight upgrade but usually not worth the rework of your stats from strength to skill.

The main reason Saw Cleaver is the best is its DPS at shredding beast bosses, on top of the transform attack causing both limb damage and building up the beast meter fast. Not even Whirlygig or LHB compares overall. As for Saw Spear, it's technically better, but not practically better. Its edge is doing beast bonus damage in both forms, but Cleaver has higher AR, unless you go full quality with 99/99 Str/Skill, or close to it. Even then, it's barely higher AR than Cleaver. Trick weapons, yes. We need trick weapons in a new game. Insight, no. Insight is a mechanic derived from Lovecraft fiction and the tabletop RPG Call of Cthulhu, and unless your game has a reason to add this mechanic, it would feel artificial. In Lovecraftian fiction and in Bloodborne, we live in a more or less normal world where normal rules apply, but suddenly we realize there are gods and dreamlands and monsters and dolls that talk to you and blood tranfusion. It can shatter your mind. In Elden Ring there were always gods and aliens and trolls and huge cities underground and ants that served as horses and living silver being with white blood. Insight has no place in a fantasy world like this. Understand this: insight is not madness. Insight is deep understanding, a deeper knowledge beyond normal science and natural philosophy. Just like when people learned that microbes were a thing. Insight means eyes in the inside, that is, the capacity to understand deeply.

Great video, but I'm going to disagree with you on one thing you said in the video: Fromsoft SHOULD remove shields from their next game. I've noticed that as time has gone by, their games have gone more towards encouraging evasion as opposed to blocking. In DS1, you could go through the game with a tanky, shield build. By DS3, late game bosses were very tough to fight by blocking, and poise was heavily nerfed, to the point where heavy armour was almost worthless. In Elden Ring, Malenia straight up heals damage through your blocks. It's obvious to me that Fromsoft really just want to make a game with the combat style of bloodborne again, and I really wish they would rather than giving an option for shields and then discouraging their use more and more. Bloodborne is my favorite game and the first one I ever beat 100%, so it isn't like I can only play using shields. And, from what I hear, Sekiro also gets tons of praise for the feeling of its combat. It really seems like their best games are ones where they pick one style of gameplay and build on it, rather than trying to cram in everything.

@@SaintsFan09-z3s Yeah I have know idea what hell this guys talking about Shields in ER are the best they have ever been. OH NO. One boss (barely) heals of blocking an attack, a boss that is largely 90% physical melee attacks and one of their biggest and dangerous moves moves can also be blocked. I’m a boss ask you to not just literally block every single attack or get punished.
@crcb251 Жыл бұрын
@@simonealcazar816 Shields are not "the best they have ever been", they were significantly better in DS1 and DS2. And Malenia "barely" heals off blocking if you only consider a single attack; but she does strings constantly, especially that dangerous attack that you mention, which can heal her up noticeably. This is literally why I mentioned that I 100%'ed bloodborne (and also DS3 as well), since I hoped that people wouldn't just go "git gud", but I guess no matter what I do, apparently I just can't learn patterns and "just block every single attack" cause I don't understand mechanics... I am fine with hard bosses, I just prefer that if game design pushes me to play a specific way, it doesn't give me other options that are noticeably worse.
@jajasking9652 Жыл бұрын
I counter that saying that they could stay, they gave some peculiar utilities for shields in elden ring Golden parry makes medium shields to be viable for parry Vow of the indominable to avoid damage if timed correctly ( if you are a freak, you can even avoid the mogh nihil damage ) Shield bash for actual decent damage A Big shield that also acts like a jar cannon A Big shield with a flamethrower ash of war that does good damage And blocking can be viable, specially for how good scholar shield Buff is Jellyfish shield for damage Buff And wathever the name of the attack that you can do after blocking Shields are defo much more dinamic on elden ring than on the other games, i don't like using them but hey, there's an options for those that wants to use them, with some options that are straight Up giving decent ofensive options
@AlexanderMartinez-kd7cz Жыл бұрын
nah, I'd just rework how shields work. currently shields are terrible if you block and busted if you can parry the enemy. if they used timed blocks instead shields would be great. like if you block right when hit you lose half the stamina.

i have a very specific thing i look for in a game. 1) the ability to roll when im not locking into an enemy, then side stepping when im locking into an enemy. 2) parrying. any games that has these mechanics easily becomes my fav games lol and bloodborne has it all. really love the rallying system too

You should play Lies of P then if you haven’t already. It has roll when not locked on and a side step when you locked on. Parry and a rally system!

Reiterpallasch is "RY-tuh-PAHL-ahsh". My German is spotty, but it means "rider's ". It's a cavalier's pistol-sword; they actually experimented with the idea for the Prussian dragoons way back, to make a functional cavalry sword with a pistol barrel alongside the base of the blade. The technology of the time achieved only...limited success, as the extra heft of the flintlock threw off the sword's balance and reloading it proved unwieldy and impractical in field testing.

Best OST, most likeable bosses (hard but fair), eccelent lore, few but very fun and very different weapons. I could go on forever. But to sum it up, Ive done speedruns, BL4 runs, 300 + FRC Chalice runs, all achievement runs. And I never get tired!. If that isnt near a perfect game, I dont know what is. I mean, I look forward to Elden Ring DLC, but Id rather have Bloodborne Prequel, where we see Gehrman, Maria and Kos in all its glory.

Bloodborne actually has a lot of weapons compared to souls games, if you consider that not that many weapons are really different weapons. Yeah, those twenty straight swords sure look different, but in no way they change anything about how you play. DS3 has 19 melee weapon types, and some weapons with unique animations. It doesn't really matter which greatsword you use, the difference is that some of them are just worse and they scale from different stats

@DamienNeverwinter6 ай бұрын
*Saif is the most underrated weapon in Bloodborne.* Although unserrated it still has very decent damage, but thats not the best part: It has hands down THE best combo in the game - start with the first R1 which rushes in with a stride whilst hitting at the same time, this hits far too fast for enemies to counter, then spam R1 a few times to land a fluid set of blows, finally as your stamina runs out hit the transform attack which causes you to dash away whilst landing a wicked long range blow on the way out. Rinse and repeat. It gets better: This thing literally has the same stagger as the freaking Kirkhammer, but moves as fast as a cleaver! The tricked curved greatsword form has an unusually massive amount of stagger, going as far as stun-locking winter lanterns from full hp to already dead. It gets better yet: this weapon has a unique attack animation that's only accessible through a locked-on left-side quickstep. The usual quick step attack slashes diagonally upward from bottom right to top left. However, this unique animation is a horizontal slash from left to right. It is a purpose made crowd control move and also works great on agile bosses or in PVP. On top of even all THAT, it has access to ALL the forms of physical damage in the game all in its moveset with a thrust on the tricked form, blunt on charged attacks, and slash on the untricked attacks. For PVP the lunging and retreating attacks make it hands down the best weapon. They literally doubled my effectiveness -no other weapon can close the distance or retreat out of range faster. It also rollcatches enemies something silly. Finally it's charge attack is borderline o/p. I cannot recommend upgrading a saif and trying it out more.

Personally, I always felt like Lies of P is the spiritual successor to Bloodborne. While it may not have Trick Weapons or Insight, as mentioned in this video, it makes up for it in unique weapon design, crafting new combinations of Weapons that have the combined Fable Arts of both of the Head and Handle, and NG+ lets you know what the Puppet Bosses are actually saying when you fight them. Plus, similar to how Bloodborne was inspired by H. P. Lovecraft, Lies of P was inspired and loosely adapted by Carlo Collodi.

I have a platinum on Bloodborne, and I don't remember that katana at all. As someone that's been playing since Demon's Souls on the PS3, well before Dark Souls came out, I do like Elden Ring the most. I honestly was never a fan of the few weapons in Bloodborne. I gave other weapons a go but never liked them, I wasn't a fam of using the same weapon all the way through because I couldn't find anything I liked more. I used the axe you get at the start, and even then, I didn't like it that much. I just got good at timing the charged heavy and it was super effective due to the knock back.

Bloodborne is such a gem. An actual MASTERPIECE! My first Souls game was DS1, n I have such special memories of that game, nothing will ever replace those. But Bloodborne truly changed my life. I go back n forth on whoch is my favorite, but it mostly boils down to: DS1 because of that first time experience, eveything was so bewildering and the sense of excitement from exploration, and the thrill of the boss fights and the sense of accomplishment was something I had never experienced quite like I did with Dark Souls. And the reasoning for Bloodborne is similar, but more so the theme of the game, the eldritch horrors had me by the balls immediately. But also the weapons, holy shit the weapons, with absolutely every single one being viable, only having a 60(?) Point damage difference from weakest to strongest. 2 of my favorite gaming tracks come from both games, O&S's boss music is fucking AMAZING, only rivaled by Ludwig's song.

I love bloodborne, and after a further deep dive into it for a video I worked on I love it even more. But the fact that the community holds it up as an untouchable great one that no other fromsoft game could come close to makes me want to destroy it like the moon presence. Fan Boys have unreasonably built this game up as much if not more than the same fan boys tore down DS2. Them Blood tinted glasses just got everyone thinking the "Flawed" is silent in Flawed Masterpiece.

While i agree that not having these is a mistake, i cant also say it is a full 100% mistake due to the fact that a lot of them wouldnt really fit into elden rings base game, however with the dlc for elden ring, there is a high chance that it can come into play for the dlc and with the dlc, add in features and new mechanics to the base game to improve upon them.

honestly I don't think elden ring should have had transforming weapons as a standard, but rather have a couple of unique weapons with a transformation mode instead of the ash of war, that way you can have a large quantity of weapons, and at the same time more unique ones with the ability to transform
