Someone once mentioned that whenever Orphan calls for lightning, it always struck the same spot; Mother Kos' corpse. The scream isn't actually calling for lightning specifically, it's Orphan's instinct to call help from their mother. Whether it's Kos' transcended form hearing her child's calls or Kos' body reacting to the screams, the instincts to protect are still there.
@TheManBehindtheScreen
@TheManBehindtheScreen 10 ай бұрын
The Orphan's weeping is Gehrman's. His screams may also be Gehrman's. And if you look closely at his face, while it's skeletal, it's not at all unlike the First Hunter's, either. Personally, I've always taken this to mean that, ultimately, the deaths of Kos and the Orphan before everyone got trapped in the various nightmares were more directly caused by Gehrman, something I feel is supported by the elevator statue that takes you to the clocktower. That statue shows three men overlooking the body of the Orphan. One of them is Master Willem, one of them is Laurence, and one is Gehrman, who is the only one among those three to be a Hunter. I personally think, after Kos was killed, they took the body of the Orphan back for study, and that it was Gehrman who was responsible for killing it in the waking world. I think that's why you find one of the one-third umbilical chords in the original Hunter's Workshop, not far from the Clocktower in Yharnam. I think that's the Orphan's one-third chord, and I think that Laurence might've had him use that as the means to commune with the Moon Presence once the Dream was revealed to them. Which is all to say, I think the Orphan's appearance in the Hunter's Nightmare is one partly shaped by the memories of the people who killed it, chiefly Gehrman.

Pretty sure it's made explicitly clear that Kos was dead long before she ever washed ashore. It was what they did to the Orphan that brought on the curse. Kos is only corporeally dead, which seems to merely be a slight inconvenience, if even that, for a great one Also, those aren't water bags. That's their heads, grossly expanded by infection of parasites
@Funko777
@Funko777 9 ай бұрын
Yep, Kos arrived dead and has parallels to an old Japanese tradition where the more remote island peoples would occasionally receive the gift of a "dead God" washing up in their shore in the form of a whale thus giving them much needed food and materials. The whale was respected and praised as a bountiful God during this time. Kos was already dead. The orphan however was killed by Gherman/Maria/Willem who did the same to the peaceful residents. I don't think there's anything to back up the parasites in the head though. The only reference for what they're injected with is the brain fluid item description. It bearing a resemblance to the Lake rune as how deep water creates a bulwark for the Great ones. I suppose you could argue the brain fluid is made of the parasites because both are blue (same as the blue elixir) so it does kinda make sense.

We practically barged into something we weren't supposed to and proceeded to kick an orphan to death while it was grieving the loss of it's mother and whatever else. I jest, but the orphan sounds like it's pretty much fighting you out of hatred for what your kind did, rather than being a monster who kills for just the kill. If it's anything that this boss fight felt during the clash, it would likely be sadness and hatred.

I was using the saw cleaver as my main weapon the uncanny one I do believe with the gems I had. Of course I farmed the hell out of the best ones you can obtain in chalice dungeons, so I made sure I was as strong as possible. Went in to fight the boss, got him down to 3 or so shots on my first try and died. I was like ok ok, I can do this. Beat him my second try while my friend was at my house and it took him 3 hours to beat orphan using the whirligig saw. He looked at me and said "I hate you". In the main game dodging to the left is the trick and I followed the same strategy in Old Hunters and it didn't work here. With Ludwig, dodging in general was useless whether it's forward or sideways. With Maria it's same case but compensated with the fact that she's much easier to Parry But Laurence and OoK, dodging is the key.
@TheManBehindtheScreen
@TheManBehindtheScreen 10 ай бұрын
@@ravipathak4614 dodging left is still the trick with Ludwig, too. Thing is, instinct tells you to dodge his charges and swipes to the right because that's the side where his back is leaning down, so it looks less threatening. In reality his hitbox, particularly for his charge, is larger on that size and he'll catch you more easily with his swipes along the ground, where you can weave under some of his attacks if you dodge to his left. Ultimately, though, timing is the key with Ludwig. Attack at the wrong time and he's probably gonna counter you with a kick to the face or a swift bite.

@@the_real_tay_loud2072Ive always felt this way too, sure it may have been my first, but I have a strong feeling that if it werent, itd still ended up being my fav. Theres just something unique about it, as an overall experience it feels like theres so much more deliberate craftsmenship in every aspect. From music, weapons, and lore to architecture, models, and other assets. Everything in Bloodborne feels like it was considered carefully and put there for a reason. The pacing and level:difficulty progression is also the best in any fromsoft game to this day imho. Whilst other fromsoft titles are masterpieces in their own right, none come close to this level of inhuman attention to detail and downright freakish quality. Other fromsoft titles are interpretive and somewhat abstract, but Bloodborne is straight up *defined* by its vagueness and obscurity. The setting, lore, and story are all explained in just enough detail for you to come up with a skeleton of a theory, but never enough to prove it correct which has lead to inumerable interpreatations that are still arising to this day due to the unfathomable little details that can each lead you down a rabbit hole of thought.

People don’t seem to understand the concept of boss difficulty being completely relative to player character power in Souls games. People will say shit like “Ornstein and Smough / Orphan of Kos / Nameless King are nothing compared to Malenia!” but completely fail to remember that player power in previous Souls games was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than it is in Elden Ring. Players have far more offensive power, movement, and general gameplay options in Elden Ring that all serve to make the player more lethal, so the relative difficulty doesn’t really increase when individual boss difficulty does increase, because the player’s power has also increased in step.

THIS. ER has so many ways to completely break the game's difficulty. Ashes of War already trivialize a lot of content but add to that the absurd amount talismans, buff items, flask effects and so on. You can kill Malenia in a few hits by doing a bleed weapon + swarm of flies set up. You can kill her very quickly with a frost set up. Something like Orphan? You can equip a paper for some extra effective damage but then you can to rely on skill, especially if you're bad at parrying

I love Orphan!! Best bloodborne boss in my opinion. He’s super hard but I love the fact he’s also completely fair and the reason that he’s hard is because he’s fast, strong and aggressive. Learning the parry windows on his attacks and going around and charged R2ing him when he does his placenta spam feels AWESOME. I also love that if you’re aggressive you can stagger him. Compared to Malenia, Orphan is hard for all of the right reasons, instead of Malenia where she has like a standard and fair moveset but then this one crazy attack that can just outright end a run on the spot. Also: his weapon is his placenta, but there’s also the fishing hook inside that placenta that killed his mum, Kos.

The bit around Lady Maria and her doings also tie in rather nicely with Iosefka's impostor at the clinic, as well. Sadly, she didn't get the lab notes from the old hunters and their trials, but it is a nice tie-in. Given the content so far, Bloodborne should've been given some additional dlc that delves deeper into the Vile Bloods, imo, as there is much, _much_ more to uncover there.

For me the Orphan is still Fromsoft's crown jewel of hard bosses. I think Malenia's only hard move is Waterfowl. She moves very predictably otherwise, has huge openings, a big arena and maaany cheese tactics. Orphan on the other hand.. extremely fast, extremely aggressive, melee, aoe, aerial attacks, extra aggro when getting to close to Kos' corpse, the lack of defensive options... aside from parrying, there aren't really ways for an easy win. I'll remember Orphan's screams until the end of time

I fought Lady Maria with no parrying and it is was absurdly intense, not for any particularly reason, just found myself dodging instead of thinking about trying to parry. One of my favorite fights for sure, although I know it's a way easier fight if I wouldve used parries

Oh, and regarding the human-like features of the Orphan of Kos; is it possible that, in their unhinged longing for ascension, one of the (male) hunters was responsible for Kos's pregnancy and that, given all hunters and their children were cursed, it was mad as a result?

This boss was AMAZING. It was tough no doubt but the fight is perfectly paced and feels super intense to fight. I feel like so many of the hardest elden ring bosses belonged in bloodborne, when you fight them in elden ring it feels like you need a faster dodges or a way to interrupt their combos, both of which bloodborne had. I hope we see bloodborne 2 or something different like sekiro where the more aggressive boss style of elden ring suits the combat better, the type of bosses in that game deserve a combat system that lets them be fun to fight.

quite honestly i got him 2nd try the secret is keep consistent and constant pressure his attacks focus on the fact that you WILL dodge away if u dodge into him he whifs and you can counter the best way i can describe it is try to stay glued to him and just dodge when needed and punish him

The final boss of the Elden ring dlc is very hard, but with orphan, which I fought later, especially because I didn't have ps plus, it felt like a real victory because I didn't have summons or coop. Really had to learn the boss

So no one is gonna say anything about the obvious Micolash and Miquella sounding almost exactly the same and both having a massive sleep-state connotation? Micolash is apparently stuck in some nightmare place and Miquella is eternally asleep and operating from another nightmarish dimension.

Funnily enough I didn't find Ludwig challenging, and Orphan was a blast of a boss because I was an aggressive player so finding a boss that was just as aggressive was AMAZING. The only one that I couldn't take down though... Lawrence...

As a big Bloodborne fan, if you think Orphan of Kos is one of the hardest bosses ever, you’ve clearly never played the latest God Of War games on NG+ hardest difficulty.

Sigrun on GMGOW NG+ is seriously no joke! The only boss in the Souls games (haven't played DS2 or Sekiro yet) that rivals in difficulty is Malenia. Sigrun I prefer because she seems like a more fair fight. Fighting Malenia was a complete shitshow that made me question my self worth lmao

@@brileonn I gave up at Hrolf and Gnar in Ragnarok, they're hard enough on NG, NG+ I began to sense would just drain my fucking mental health... One of the few times I'll just flat out admit to something being fairly outside of my gaming competency.

@@The_Story_Of_Us honestly at some point it's not worth it if it's not even fun anymore! I've only done Ragnarok on regular hard mode which was a good amount of challenge, but I can imagine those berserkers would be insane on the hardest difficulty! Legit made my thumbs sore from how demanding the combat was 😂 I love that game so dang much

I’m not the greatest souls player but it really surprised me to learn how many people struggled against Orphan of Kos. Maybe it was the build I was using or I was just on fire that day or something, but with no prior knowledge of this guy I beat him on like my second try without much of a struggle. He was cool, but I still couldn’t believe he was the final Bloodborne boss at the time. I can remember thinking "that’s it?"

Honestly the bosses in this game were just so much better in attack design than elden ring. Elden ring relies to much on delayed attacks and aoe spam its so boring and cheap. The games incredible though and looks amazing but the bosses are an L in gameplay design. They look great though
