It is amazing to me that people will deny that the incredible athletic and technical skills of ballet, all types of dance, figure skating, all types of gymnastics cannot be a sport, but have no problem with table tennis, badminton, curling, occasionally even chess being called sports. Just because something has an entertaining or artistic component doesn't exclude it from being a sport.

I can’t stop watching when I come across these shoots. They are amazing. Watching the dancer u don’t see what it’s going to turn out as the final but the final pics are out of this world! At 12 I became interested in photography but my parents, dad teacher mom stay at home & 7 children couldn’t afford anything in regards to my interests. I dated a guy later, around 21, & he bout a fully manual Pentax w/ flash so I could track my settings in a logbook & understand why my pics came out the way they did. This was early ‘80’s. I used different lenses from sunglasses since i couldn’t afford to purchase. A friend found the camera case in my cabinet & took my camera out then while fumbling to put back before I caught her dropped it, breaking the foot for the flash as well as another piece. That was the end of my career. I was never able to afford the equipment much less dark room or find someone to train while working 2 jobs. I did model a bit but found that to be no fun. I am fascinated with ur work. I will always follow u & Dream of what may have been.

Good point because that set should have been torn up! He was spotting his falls so well that he was even protecting the flimsy paper. Me, I twisted an ankle, hit my head, and broke a rib just watching. More than us regular folk, dancers have highly trained their natural born "instinct" to avoid injury...or further injury since they sometimes dance in utter pain.

I feel that in order to get the photographs with incredible poses … the photographer is willing to do anything. Including not really paying attention if by doing so, might impact injuries on the dancers. For i.e what if by holding the poses much longer (unlike dancing which is not posing but fluid mobility), the dancers lose balance, fall, hit the floor, etc
