I wrapped the sling slightly loose around the butt stock (to allow me to get it out of the charging handle’s way) and secured it with the metal slide. The bungee was tied to the other end of it and secured to the front sight. It worked rather well IMO. Though I wonder how it would hold up used for Hop’s applications.

I found an odd small brand (STI Rifle Slings) that does pretty good stuff at a really good price. 1.25” tubular nylon that is allegedly US sourced with a quick adjust thumb loop for a tad over $20. Don’t get a padded section, but the slightly wider nylon seems to help lighten the load a bit. Check them out.

To this day, I still don't see any need to pay anything above a 15 dollar sling. I know some dudes will always insist that "you need the extra padding because redistribution of weight", yet almost always run it on some form of an AR 15 which is the epitome of a low weight rifle. What is crazier is that many of the 15 dollar slings available now are actually better quality than the slings I was issued in active duty. I know that for professional and or consistent drill use, a padded sling can help. But some of these 40 to 60 dollar slings don't even have extra padding. Meanwhile the ones I bought are still running fine. I know some people are probably going to give me shit for this comment. But save your money for other parts, a sling is the least of your worries.

I've been rocking a Magpul MS1 and I like it, though I'm unsure how much I like the included QD mounts. They like to twist and hang on either my stock or if I use the QD spot just above my grip, they get stuck easily. It's the odd "wing" design they have, and I just haven't swapped it for a standard QD mount. It's wicked comfortable and flexible. I haven't had too much issue with it loosening up on me, but if I'm shooting for more than two mags I tend to yank it off if I know I won't be standing around a lot. Slings in general get in my way, but I spent a lot of time practicing with this one for both shouldering and offhand. While I haven't had to carry it around long term by said sling, I feel reasonably confident it wouldn't bug me too much if I had to. The material they make their slings out of is reasonably supple for how dense it is.

The TAB gear carbine sling is really nice too. And it's pretty inexpensive. I've used them for several deployments, and they hold up well. It is a regular 2pt with slider and bungee. Not padded, but its really not for a 10.5lb+ rifle anyway. They make a PRS sling that's padded and pretty nice too. It's alot like the old Vickers heavy sling. Anything over about 20-22lbs I want a biathlon sling anyway, so I don't run it in NRL anymore. The carbine sling is nice because it holds the rifle close enough to your body to easily use your hands for other administrative tasks (like most of us do 99.999% of the time). The bungee has just enough give if you need to 'punch out' with the rifle, should the need arise. Best part is the sling with sewn in qd's is like $35 if you are military or LEO.

You’re at 76.2k subscribers. Based 30HATE. Also, just like basically all other gear, the best option is going to be based on an individuals needs. For example, a bigger super padded sling will be great for a ground pounder infantry dude, but might not be the best for the dude with a bag gun for self defense. That dude might be super well suited by the ESD, but the infantry dude would not be vibing. I do a lot of vehicle carry of long guns, so being able to manipulate controls with the sling stowed is paramount for me. But I’m also known to do some recceing of your moms house and larping in my basement from time to time, so it’s nice to have some padding. I’ve found the Sierratac sling from Spiritus to be my happy medium. It’s narrow, and lightly padded, so it stows nicely on the rifle and doesn’t get in the way when stowed. But it still has enough padding that it doesn’t suck to carry for miles through the woods. Super simple adjustment that stays in place. Definitely my favorite sling currently

But with the way the Proctor attaches to the rifle with 550 loops, the rear attachment would likely migrate back to your inboard side anyway so it might be better to just attach both ends on the same side. I still like using the MS3.. or at least an MS3 with added HK style hooks. I'll never use the quick connect style.. I built custom homes for over a decade and the air compressor hoses that are used all have those little balls in them, and they break. The connectors break, the race end gets worn down and loose--- it's just a no go for me. I've had to change them out enough to know that the little balls are gonna break eventually, it's just a matter of when... Granted, even when they do in the field-- you can always lash it with some 550 cord and keep it moving. but I'll just stick with the tried and true HOOKS. I might be open to upgrading to a pad. I have several hunting rifles with pads, and they don't seem to help much. It all digs into your shoulder over time, no matter how good the pad is.

I'm sure you've heard of Snake Eater slings, usually running around $40 for a very light, unpadded sling. Seemed quite similar to the Ed sherman

Any experience with the base camp kilo sling?

I got a Haley Strategic D3 sling back in 2017. It also had the narrow metal loops and a thin strap. It jammed every single time I tried to adjust it. The thin strap would fold over itself and feed through the loop causing a massive jam. I sent an email to Haley Strategic explaining the issue. They asked for me to send it back and their conclusion was that it was perfectly fine. I guess failure to function is normal to them. Glad to see they haven’t changed.

I've owned sooo many slings, vtac or Arbor arms are the best way to go imo

Had a D3 thought it was over engineered and superfluous for general rifle use. Maybe suited more for a “cqb” dedicated gun smaller than a mk18. SLK works for me, but I use it on a wwsd at the extreme ends. No bunches and pad is in the right place 85% of the time.
