Will never be successful.” “I'm more important than you because my AK is more expensive and obscure than yours.” “I'm against gun control but I hope you get your guns taken away from you.” “ **nonstop unnecessary sarcasm** ” “Are you pointing a loaded gun at the ground?! Hop is the only creator that I listen to at 0.75x speed: not because he doesn’t speak clearly or too hastily, but because of the amount of info he can pack into a video without making it half hour long. His ability to synthesize subjects is staggering. His non-nonsense approach makes his videos invaluable for those trying to figure out what really works and what’s just marketing hype. I often watch his videos a second time (in normal or increased speed) just to make sure I didn’t lose any point made. His sarcastic humor is just a cherry on the top.

I’m so ready for Hop to cover the ACR, back in elementary school when MW2 came out we all thought the 6.8 SPC ACR was the gun of the future. And it still could be, because I’m not sure any of them were actually made. Caliber conversion kits have to be the biggest snake oils of 21st century gun sales.

And then guys buy 4 caliber change AR's with barrels 1" of each other and buy a 556 and a 300blk barrel for each of them, with the change barrel also all the same length 🤡 Then they buy either eo techs or t2's with 3x and 5x magnifier because hey, wouldn't want to have to constantly swap them between their essentially identical AR's would we? 🤡 Also, after all that you can't afford that 6arc ammo anyways, even if it was available.
@MedicAthlete24W
@MedicAthlete24W 7 күн бұрын
I've got one of the first 1000 ACRs produced and it is an alright firearm. It's annoying that the barrel quick change system requires the gun to be re-zeroed, but besides that it's fun for what it is. Rem/Bush dropped the ball by making the price as high as it was for how little OEM replacement parts there were. We got promised caliber conversions, but only a few were made and then they got discontinued. I rarely shoot it anymore since finding parts for it is next to impossible. The few times I have brought it out to the range people have commented on it being a video game gun, so that's always hilarious.

High pressure gas venting from the piston gas block isn't theoretical. I tested a suppressed piston gun with Al Paulson and we couldn't get the thing to meter below 143 dB. Swap out the upper to DI, screw on the same can and suddenly we are into the mid 135's. Maybe ca. 8dB isn't important to some people but if you want a quiet suppressed AR, DI is the only way to fly.

Imagine my surprise when I bought my first piston upper (BRN-180), excitedly slapped on my Resonator, switched to the suppressed gas setting, and began blasting with a smile on my face (because I read so much about how clean and pleasant they are suppressed) only to be choked out after 5 rounds. Yes, the internals were cleaner, but it did not RUN cleaner, if that makes sense... I also shoot like shit with it because I'm much more used to the 'ka-chunk' impulse of a mid-length DI gun (training issue mainly tbf).

Not bad. Would’ve liked to have seen a LWRC in there. People get so emotional about the DI vs Piston. Sometimes folks gotta chill. It’s a free country, you’re welcome to design what you want. I think the issue arose when folks began saying one was “better,” than the other. I see it similar to car engines. You got piston engines, rotary engines, flat boxer style engines, turbo engines. Man, different strokes for different folks. At the end of the day it sure is great to have options! And that’s what folks have to remember.

Don't have to clean them or maintain them as often. Got 9 lives, so they're very durable. Most people get them from a trash can... somehow that's gotta fit into the theme. Where as dogs are reliable, more dependable, need to be cleaned often, they poop where they eat and sleep, you toss a ball at them, they're very accurate (cat's just flick you off). Have a nice day!

By turning the gas off, the bolt wont cycle meaning the most of the noise and gas should go through the suppressor instead of out the ejection port making it quieter. Similar to how quiet a suppressed bolt action is or the original MK23 with the slide lock feature engaged or a hush puppy.

I run my Spear LT pretty hard and I have a conventional baffle can on it. I've shot it so much to the point that the gun is too hot to touch and yet I do not get gassed out. I don't really believe that the piston system does very little to prevent gas to the face. I've shot 4 mags in a row through it firing fairly fast and still feel fine. It has to do something, or maybe it's just the tight tolerances of the Spear LT. But if the ejection port makes up a bulk of the gas then it shouldn't matter. I dunno why, man. It just doesn't gas me out. I hate being that guy who's like "BUT MINE WORKS FINE", but I just haven't had this experience.

"Self-regulating" gas systems are a lot like the Blish-lock. They dont actually work (outside of one in a shotgun, but i would debate calling that self regulating since the length of the shell regulates the gas system, not the gas system itself)

PWS’ main offerings are LONG stroke piston ARs, not short strokes. Long strokes have barrel harmonics issues and higher recoil due to the recipricating mass. An entirely avoidable con in a platform that wasn’t built around that config to begin with.

Paul Leitner-Wise (the LW in LWRC before he left and sued them) worked with VKTR Industries to produce a "self regulating short stroke piston" AR called the VK-1 that is supposedly the smoothest shooting piston gun due to some changes with how it vents gas and how the bolt moves within the carrier. They also claim it doesn't need an adjustable gas block due to the self regulating gas block. It'd be interesting to see you test those claims.

When the first AR15 piston kits hit the market, I used to say that they were a solution looking for a problem. Maybe that was an ill-informed and douche thing to say, but all these years (and rifles) later, I still just don’t see the draw.

Only piston AR's I've had were two of the earlier LWRC models. Nice guns, reliable, accurate as hell, heavy (particularly the original 16" medium-profile, quad-rail one). The recoil wasn't particularly snappy, but it was definitely different. There wasn't the semi-lethagic "twang" spring feel compared to my duty AR, etc. It didn't feel anything like an AK either. I'm curious how well LWRC is chugging along now? I don't think I've seen a guntuber with an LWRC product since the poorly received .45 SMG one....
