I’m so ready for Hop to cover the ACR, back in elementary school when MW2 came out we all thought the 6.8 SPC ACR was the gun of the future. And then guys buy 4 caliber change AR's with barrels 1" of each other and buy a 556 and a 300blk barrel for each of them, with the change barrel also all the same length 🤡 Then they buy either eo techs or t2's with 3x and 5x magnifier because hey, wouldn't want to have to constantly swap them between their essentially identical AR's would we? 🤡 Also, after all that you can't afford that 6arc ammo anyways, even if it was available.
@MedicAthlete24W7 күн бұрын
I've got one of the first 1000 ACRs produced and it is an alright firearm. It's annoying that the barrel quick change system requires the gun to be re-zeroed, but besides that it's fun for what it is. Rem/Bush dropped the ball by making the price as high as it was for how little OEM replacement parts there were. We got promised caliber conversions, but only a few were made and then they got discontinued. I rarely shoot it anymore since finding parts for it is next to impossible. The few times I have brought it out to the range people have commented on it being a video game gun, so that's always hilarious.

High pressure gas venting from the piston gas block isn't theoretical. I tested a suppressed piston gun with Al Paulson and we couldn't get the thing to meter below 143 dB. Swap out the upper to DI, screw on the same can and suddenly we are into the mid 135's. Maybe ca. 8dB isn't important to some people but if you want a quiet suppressed AR, DI is the only way to fly.

I run my Spear LT pretty hard and I have a conventional baffle can on it. I've shot it so much to the point that the gun is too hot to touch and yet I do not get gassed out. I don't really believe that the piston system does very little to prevent gas to the face. I've shot 4 mags in a row through it firing fairly fast and still feel fine. It has to do something, or maybe it's just the tight tolerances of the Spear LT. But if the ejection port makes up a bulk of the gas then it shouldn't matter. I dunno why, man. It just doesn't gas me out. I hate being that guy who's like "BUT MINE WORKS FINE", but I just haven't had this experience.

The off setting is fantastic with a cmmg .22lr kit. My 516 is so OG it actually came with plastic clamshell handguards, had to upgrade to that sweet chunk of a quad rail 🤙

It would have been nice to also talk about and compare the haenel MK556/CR223 in 14.5'' . Designed by the same people who did the 816 for Caracal and uses the same bolt ( almost the same ) as the 416

When the first AR15 piston kits hit the market, I used to say that they were a solution looking for a problem. Maybe that was an ill-informed and douche thing to say, but all these years (and rifles) later, I still just don’t see the draw.

I have a number of both. I like the external much better. They run so much cleaner and cooler in the BCG. Other than that there's not a lot of difference from the ones I have. IMO it personal preference.

Do you remember that weird ass ospray kit?😂😂. Funny thing is that offset system was known to absolutely work.

@ Thanks for the memory jog, that’s exactly what I was talking about. For me, it came down to: “do I really need this, along with any necessary spare parts?”My answer was no.

i honestly love my sig 516, i use a spikes t2 buffer, surefire 3 prong and a rc2 and the gas adjustment works perfectly

except the accuracy out of my 816 tops so many top shelf ar's.

You should do a review of Caracal’s weird pistol.

Beefy quad rail retro? Yes… yes.. my POF P-415 from 2008 is a freaking tank. However… it is the most tight grouping AR I have. Great video Hop. Aloha 🤙🏽🤙🏽

My understanding is that Sig consideres the 516 just an early version of the MCX/Spear. So, you could say that the 516 is still available for purchase.

I don’t think you understand how much people love adding weight to the front of their guns.
@8RedBear57 күн бұрын
This gun is front heavy. Was that before or after you placed a Light, MAL, IR device, pressure switches, bipod, bottle opener, bayonet, cup holder, foregrip on the front?
@jbloun9117 күн бұрын
Most people are backyard larpers and have never actually fought in combat let alone carry their rifle all day and understand that weight kills you
@stillmanfischer79787 күн бұрын
I LS swapped my BCM. Its a little front heavy but it does make over 400 hp so definitely worth it. @8RedBear5

Only piston AR's I've had were two of the earlier LWRC models. Nice guns, reliable, accurate as hell, heavy (particularly the original 16" medium-profile, quad-rail one). The recoil wasn't particularly snappy, but it was definitely different. There wasn't the semi-lethagic "twang" spring feel compared to my duty AR, etc. It didn't feel anything like an AK either. I'm curious how well LWRC is chugging along now? I don't think I've seen a guntuber with an LWRC product since the poorly received .45 SMG one....
