I think you nailed that Sabrina opinion! I don't think there was a more perfect time to drop Please x3. We wouldn't have known at the time if Espresso would or wouldn't lose momentum and then the chance of her getting her first #1 slip away, and like you said people would complain how she didn't capitalize while she was hot. If anything releasing Please x3 gave her album and herself more hype. I'll even go as far as to say she should release a 3rd single before the album drop, since it's still over a month away, because she can easily get a 2nd #1 with her 3rd single, and then on album release week Espresso could shoot up with the help of the album drop boost, as Espresso is currently Sabrina's highest charting song on the Hot100, and become Sabrina's 3rd #1! Espresso still has a chance!

Never hated Perrie or Jesy while she was a member, but even though they were both obviously talented, their voices were always hit or miss for me. I really and truly did not care for Perrie's first song, it just gave off early 2010s bad pop vibes. Her new song Tears ia good though, but I feel like both of her songs still have a Little Mix sound. Tears sounda like something straight from LM5, i can literally hear which part each girl would sing. Unpopular opinion: While I love Billie and a lot of her songs, I do feel like a good portion of her discography is carried by the production (i.e., Finneas). I wonder if she would've reached the same fame and success if she didn't have her brother working behind the scenes. To add to that, this is the third album where Billie's vocals are very subdued. While at first this style was interesting and something new, it now feels like this is her only party trick. Girl needs more vocal projection; I'm tired of having to turn up the volume by 20 points whenever a Billie track comes on lol.
@burnt-croissants4 ай бұрын
subdued? did we listen to the same album? her vocals were the most open in this newest album. and most artists can credit a large part of their popularity to their music production. catchy songs are catchy because of the production. dua lipa, sabrina carpenter, chappel roan and charlie xcx also all depend partly on music production to create unique and fresh sounds. the only difference is that Finneas is actually given the due credit and is often featured whereas other producers aren’t.
@ChonkyMonkeyLeague-ji6uj4 ай бұрын
@@burnt-croissants I did say it was an unpopular opinion 🤷♂ She had the most vocal projection on Lunch and Birds of a Feather, and while louder, those vocals are still quiet compared to literally every other artist. Sure of course production is a factor. But a lot of times for Billie's tracks, I'm more impressed by the arrangements and effects (NDA, Chihiro) more-so than Billies vocal delivery itself. Out of the artists you listed, I think that would apply for CharliXCX as well, but she at least appears to have a heavier hand in working with the producers.

I agree. In my head when I think of Billie Eilish’s success as an artist, I credit Billie and Finneas, the people, for the success. i'm not even a fan of her (nothing against her I just haven't dived into her music) but this take feels low-key kinda sexist ? it seems kind of odd to assume that her brother has the most involvement. 29:24 Actually funny story about Telephone. Gaga wrote it for Britney Spears back in 2007 or 8 for her Circus album and after it was rejected she showed it to Beyonce while on the set of Video Phone. So technically, Beyonce would fit in the example they gave of another artist hopping onto the song, however, it was still unreleased and that's the only difference. Same thing with Britney and Madonna for... that song where she says "In the zone" XD ... ME AGAINST THE MUSIC that's what it is. I have to agree. Making music streaming also a social media would only take money away from artists, surely. The amount of investment needed to build, maintain, manage and mediate a social media platform is immense. And, wow, imagine being blocked from streaming music because you put a 'mid' review on Taylor Swift or something and get flamed by stanners. Nuh-uh. Not for me. And if a platform DID decide to do this, they most likely would force engagement with it to ensure return n the investment and there would be no 'opt out' option. Wonka made $632 million on a $125 million budget and Anyone But You made nearly 10x it’s $25 million budget ($220 million). Challengers actually WAS a disappointment because it’s budget was WAAAAYYY too high ($50 million) and only made $94 million which was disappointing because of the size of the budget. The problem is that movie studios spend too much and they end up with movie budgets of $250 million and needing to make upwards of $750 million worldwide to just make their money back and break even.

Need to be featured on the next one: BRUNO MARS annoys me so much because he should be considered one the modern greats up there with Prince and MJ. Because he has the talent. But really post Uptown Funk instead of trying to push what he did in his first two albums which was marrying old and new school sounds. He basically just re-creates oldschool sounds right down to the way the video looks. And it’s gotten really old. He doesn’t innovate he imitates. Nothing true groundbreaking artistically or lyrically or sonically. it. Bruno Mars has essentially become a tribute act for 70s-early 90s. And again for somebody who has the level of talent he has multi instrumentalist incredible live vocalist, wonderful dancer and live performer he should be better. He should be more and he could be more. But he has. CHOSEN actively to be less and that really disappoints me because there are so few, great mainstream male pop artist as it is. As a KP fan, I have A LOT to say: I think her best bet is something new. Her last eras have been electropop, and I'd love a darker pop/alt pop sound from her. Not saying she has to be Taylor or Gaga (the competition between fanbases needs to STOP), but working with similar producers wouldn't hurt. I need "E.T.: the album." I think "Witness" is where they got wires crossed because it was too "weird" and the marketing could've been better, ie making "Roulette" a single. "Smile" was pretty much her listening to fans wanting the "old Katy" back, but it was poorly handled; they should've released it shortly after NRO and HIH, advertised it A LOT more, and remove the clown aesthetic, which wasn't a consistent image the album was marketed with outside of the cover and single of the same name. Given that she had animated videos for the songs, I think "Smile" should've been a concept album with a film to go with it, similar to "K12" and "Lemonade"--heck, the story potential for "Witness" (perhaps a psychological story about sense of self) would've been perfect.

The problem with Marvel films is much more complicated than that ‘new movies just can’t compete’ narrative MCU nerds like to tout. What was so damaging abut the MCU is that it conditioned audiences to expect IP tentpoles. Tentpole films have way bigger budgets than originals today. Endgame had twice the budget Furiosa had, Anyone But You was like a 10th of the budget Ant Man: Quantumania had. These are not fair comparisons. Larger budgets means better marketing and that in turn means bigger box office receipts. These inflated budgets came at the expense of smaller genre films which had their budgets slashed. Marvel conditioned audiences to 1.expect something they had already seen (comic books, origin story rehashings, etc) 2. expect that they would have a say in the narrative and commentary present in these films. Comic book culture/fanbase emphasized fidelity to the source material, was very vocal about casting expectations, and was very hostile about experimental deviations from the themes and commentary explored in the films. Marvel films placated these expectations and offered easter eggs and fan service to boot. A decade plus later- of course original, non mcu films are flopping. They’re making do with less, with an audience that does not like challenging themes and narratives and that expects familiar editing/writing techniques.

But I think the rating system would cause issues because I think some artists (or labels) would/could pay to get those good ratings on there. I think it would be nice to have this on a separate app or make something like this a paid feature. Overall I think it’s a cool idea for real music lovers and commentators but Stan Twitter would cause some issues with this that “just reporting it” wouldn’t fix.

i'm glad you talked about Ellie!, i agree with the positive feedback, but at the same time, i do agree with the op saying she's underrated because i think after her mainstream crossover with 'Delirium' (the one with Love Me Like You Do, On My Mind, Outside) which was a correct pop record, the general public mindset changed on her, and she got categorized as a "generic singer" even too her follow up album 'Brightest Blue' which might be one of her most personal work to date (minus the side b: bonus tracks that her label made her include it) which tackles teams like anxiety, impostor syndrome, loneliness, gets overlooked because people won't gave an opportunity to those songs, like 'Flux', 'Start', 'Love I'm Given' (that should be one of her biggest songs of her discography), or her latest song with TSHA & Gregory Porter 'Somebody' which is a BANGER, and it seems they forget that she's not only a singer, but also a songwriter, guitarist and a drummer, as well. I mean her debut album was a folktronica album that made her stand out from the crowd for a reason, and dubbing her as some generic singer for a DJ track it kinda does dismiss her first two body of works, and personally 'Bright Lights' and 'Halcyon' were the IT GIRLS. BUT you have a great point that we can't expect that every artist will get all their catalog celebrated, she does have her cult following and at the end that's fine! thanks for talking about her @naomi.cannibal ♥︎

Unpopular opinion, but I think the reason why we compare Doja cat to Nicki Minaj or maybe not compare but put them together is because we’ve seen so many female rappers say they can rap and that they have bars and they get on these stages and they get on these charts and they don’t really have bars. Or they really can’t rap or and their not creative but when you see artist like Doja Cat, she’s so versatile she has a lyrics she has a punchlines she has flow. She has an iconic videos and the only person that has that is Nicki Minaj so I think that’s why we compare Doja Cat to Nicki Minaj. It also goes to show Nicki impact

My unpopular opinion: The way Soulja Boy feels about Soulja Boy is the way is the way I feel about TINASHE. She did everything 1st! The alt R&B wave can be traced back to her, the format of this toned down cool slightly experimental R&B music can be traced back to her…. i’m blanking but whatever else artist do now she probably did it first

that opinion about the movies was confusing to me considering 2 of the 3 films they used as examples of audiences not supporting different films, Anyone But You and Wonka, both did extremely well at the box office? Like Wonka made $632 million on a $125 million budget, and Anyone But You did $220 million on $25 million

Both Joan and Carrie are very selfish, but pride themselves on how good of a friend they are. 🤔🙄 Sam and Toni though. Made both shows. When they left…. Shows weren’t the same. Both of them knew that they weren’t perfect, owned, it but had growth. Anywho… 😊

I'm excited with the new Katy Perry album because honestly i didn't like the two previous albuns at all. Sabrina Carpenter reminds me of early 00's pop stars. I miss that vibe and i really like her new album and style because of that. I love Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson and Alexandra Burke when we talk about singers that came of the tv shows, they were the best for me. Thank You Naomi for all your hard work.❤

My unpopular opinion being that Eminem is legit the kind of guy to try to hook up with you and when you reject him, he’ll go “whatever, you’re ugly anyways” but instead of that, he makes like 6 albums of a “hookup” (hint Mariah Carey hint)

I think "paid dust" might be accurate for Ellie because Miracle has pretty much been her only hit this decade and it didn't even chart in the US. She's released 2 albums (both of which flopped) and all of the singles from those albums flopped too.

I wonder how old the person was who suggested we only judge the contestants' performances on reality competition shows? I remember when American Idol first became a phenomenon in the wake of shows like Survivor and Big Brother. The back stories were pivotol for the medium. They were selling the dream that even you could be a celebrity.

I was waiting for Katy Perry one, and did not expect my comment at all, especially bc i forgot i even commented, and even get a "Beyoncé??, Beyoncé???" 😂 I did not really mean it literally, but also kinda did. I meant more in a way of, If her best music got paid dust and got so much hate that her carrer would go from 9 #1s and multiple Diamond singles in 6 years to barely charting with her best music and constantly being made fun of so much that it also impacted her mental health then song should get her back on the charts, bc she is defenitely not gonna release a bad song yet. Yes, not even Woman's World is bad. It's not. It is not even made to be incredible but to be a lead single. So it has to be catchy and memorable. (Tho Chained To The Rhythm is equally quality and catchyness). The worst part is that she was not taken seriously at her most mature (musically), and wanted her old sound and when she gave them the more signature sound (Smile) she got bashed for not experimenting and evolving her sound. The fuck? But yeah i felt weird bc i did not expect it to be in the video, maybe i forgot some acually do get to be in the video so i did not explain myself well enough. I acually don't think i still did, probably bc this is my second language but yeah, hope someone understands and becomes my witness😅
