All day hunts are challenging. Tough to keep your focus sunrise to sunset. Small sized property access permissions are tricky. But when the gobbler is willing to move to you, you need to be there. Thanks for the great

Here in WI we can hunt all day I've taken 2 Jake's and had a big Tom come in with 1 hen last year 1st period last year could hear him spitting & drumming was really cool unfortunately had malfunction with my gun buts that's another story lol. We're expecting our second born beginning of April only gonna get up for the fourth period can't wait.

Very informative vieo. Thanks. Quite often on my trail cam during the spring, I'll pick up a lone hen feeding. Then, minutes later, a gobbler will come by strutting. My guess is the gobbler heard the hen purring and feeding and such from a distance, and then came in looking for her.

I shot 2 gobblers in the evening this year. I have had really good luck with evenings. They don't gobble much but I usually just camp out in a known turkey area, put out a couple decoys and soft call. Seems to work pretty well.

Dale I have followed you for years and a better turkey hunter for your advice Thanks On this video I don’t understand how sitting near a tree with a turkey on roost is any different than sitting at the same tree in the evening waiting for the bird to return is any different ethically Looking forward to your response Thanks

The first turkey I called up and killed by myself gobbled 3 times at 4:00 PM. Soft purrs and clucks and a 3 year old stepped out in full strut. He would strut, drum and almost run about 10 steps & repeat, until he was 15 yards away. I also don't believe in killing a turkey by setting up and waiting on one to feed nearby or return to roost. If he ain't coming to me and making some sort of noise in response to me, that just isn't fun.

The reason that old gobbler does not gobble much in the evening is, that he wears himself out in the morning, most or all hens in his area have been bread. He knows another busy morning is coming so he better eat & rest.

So, you can set up near a known tree and shoot him when flies down but it's unethical to shoot him from the same spot on his way back to that same tree. What??
@jeffjohnston5562

So, what's the difference in setting under the roost tree in the morning and saying you don't think it's ethical to sit under at night? Same thing to me.... you're still hunting.
@jmj3324
@jmj3324 3 жыл бұрын
Cause your not shooting him off the roost and usually your not right under a Gobblers roost. If your setting up underneath the roost you don’t have to call or work the bird in. Kind of shooting a sitting duck. Mornings near his roost he may fly towards your direction or he may fly away from it. So I agree with Matt I think it’s more sporting working the bird in. Just my thoughts.
