Everglades National Park in Florida encompasses over 1.5 million acres in the southern portion of Florida. The park preserves wetlands known as the river or grass and is home to hundreds of different animals. The park has a northern and southern portion and we visit both in this video. You can use this video to find the trails and parts of the park that you are most interested in visiting when you go to Everglades National Park. Let us know what we left off in the comments.

As a Florida native it’s so fun to watch you experience all the weird stuff I’m so used to! I can’t believe you didn’t know about the Florida panther!! If you haven’t already, learn about them, their story is so amazing and they are so so endangered.

I was shocked, I would have never guessed there was a panther in Florida haha. I will go read about them now!

From what I was told by a Park Ranger who worked the Everglades parks and Preserves, they were so endangered that they brought in South African panthers (a bit larger) to mate with the Florida Panther. The population was down to 38 at one point and it had grown to 105 when I spoke to him about 12 years ago. In 19 years on the job he had only seen 5 panthers with his own eyes. Rare to see them.

There are thousands of 4 to 8 minute videos on youtube with top 10 here and best places there. You have those too, and they're not bad. But what it really does for me are those long travel videos, mostly with your dad. Half an hour is minimum. I'm always so excited when they last 90 minutes or longer. Sure, that's just my taste. There's a real holiday feeling. The viewer get a vague idea of a place and all the little details complete the picture. It really makes me want to travel and explore. Also, you guys seem like nice people. Thank you and keep it up!

My wife and I biked Shark Valley in May which had its pros and its cons. I felt like we saw pretty much the same type of stuff that you would see on the tram with a few additional things. We saw a soft shelled turtle laying eggs and a few white ibis or wood stork (can't remember which one) jabbing its beak at a snake to kill it. The issue with biking is having only one gear and as a result one speed (slow!). 15 miles feels like an eternity when the sun is beating down on you, otherwise I actually really enjoyed the views and the trip much more. It gave the viewer more control.

We went there a couple of years ago in mid December. No mosquitos, no humidity, instead alligator overload! We didn't have to "find" them as they were basically all over the place. The locals of our Airbnbs confirmed that December and January are the best months to visit. Did an air boat tour too, which was a highlight of the whole trip. Can't wait to take our kids there in the future.

The cooler temps definitely bring the gators out of hiding, and they love to soak up the sun on 'cold' days. That's also the prime months for birds and other migrating fowl. Usually through March or April they're in abundance. Naples and Ft. Myers also have daily Key West Express ferries to Key West, which is an amazing trip.

Crocodiles have longer, narrower heads with a V-shape. Alligators have a more rounded U-shape to their heads. The Everglades is the only placed in the world where both species coexist.

As a Floridian who visits Everglades National Park frequently in November-March, this is a great overview! You did A LOT in one day! The only thing I think you missed was Robert Is Here Fruit Stand (for a key lime milkshake). If I remember correctly, only in Flamingo will you see crocodiles in the park. It's the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles coexist. Doing a wet walk is one of the best experiences in the park (off the main road, near the Pa-hay-okee Trail turn off).

Just a little further west on route 41 in the Northern part of the Everglades is the Ten thousand islands nationals wildlife refuge marsh trail. That's my favorite spot in the everglades as it has a bird watching tower, a long straight path, and more alligators and birds than you'll see anywhere else, including Roseate Spoonbills sometimes

Great video. I go camping at Flamingo a couple times during the month of March. When the water dries up in the spring, tons of birds gather in the pools to feed on the fish. March is also the month when the swallow-tailed kites migrate north from South America. Watching your video got me excited to head down there in a couple weeks.

Home sweet home. Great video- you covered quite a lot in a day! I've often wondered how I'd tackle Everglades if it wasn't my "home park" and I always thought that you'd need at least 3-4 days to cover it all but this says otherwise. Meanwhile- there's one more "entrance" to EVER: The Gulf Coast area with tours that take you out into Florida Bay, the Gulf, and the 10,000 Islands part of the park. You have to come back out and experience that.... along with Big Cypress National Preserve, which is about 20 minutes past Shark Valley. I know you're from California... Imagine a watery Muir Woods or Redwood National Park. That's what Cypress is like and it's wonderful. One of my favorite parts of the Greater Everglades Ecosystem.

Seeing as how you were on a trail, rather than in a canoe out near the ocean, what you saw was an alligator (fresh water critter), rather than a crocodile (salt water). By the way, FL is the only place in the world where you can find both. Alligators have a rounded mouth, while crocs' are pointed. It looks as if the campground buildings in Flamingo are what I stayed in during my trip a few years ago. They've been up for less than 5 years. They're permanent tents with electric lights, and it's all on a system of boardwalks. I had gator bites there, as well as at a Seminole roadside stand along Alligator Alley. This is also where I got my airboat tour; it was especially great since we were given decibel --reducing headphones, which kept my ears from blowing out.

The difference between an Alligator and a Crockadile is: Color: Alligators are a darker, blackish-grey in color, while crocodiles are a lighter, olive green or brown color. Snout: Alligators have a wider, U-shaped snout, while crocodiles have a pointier, V-shaped snout. Also, if you hear someone singing "Crocodile Rock", that person may be Elton John. Ha.Ha.
