Man , I wanted to like EQ few months back , did love ps2 "Champions of Norrath" back in the days. I tried EQ for the first time. No game ever made me feel like a "total filthy causal" before . Just looting and interaction were a chore. I might give it another try for a remastered version. Hopefully, i can find a team to leave the beginner area . My character was 1 of those half human Dragon looking giga Chad's guys. Hopefully, those unique races make back in the game

@@Redbeardflynn I think must be Everquest 3 and not remake, maybe with dark atmosphere, the difference with a possible Everquest 3 must be the difference between Archeage 2 and Archeage chronicles, Everquest chronicles for example: not grinding, target system and with visual lock like dragon's dogma 2. This is the key, this is the future.

My brother passed away earlier this year but was an avid EQ player since launch so many years ago. It was the first online game I was introduced to through him when he would secretly let me play when my parents weren't around (I was 10 and the game was 'evil'). I cherish those memories, and recently had half a mind to check in and play the game for a bit. Seeing this news come across my algorithm makes me look forward to the possibility of experiencing EQ for the first time all over again. I just wish my brother would be around to enjoy it with.

LOL, your mention of Firiona Vie at 2:48 brought back some memories! I was a guide in *EverQuest* back in the early days when community members could volunteer as guides. We had special powers on a designated character to help players, like getting them unstuck, dragging them across the world if they died in water, and other similar tasks. There was one guide, Llara-a guy from Texas-who I became friends with. Tragically, he passed away in real life, and the devs honored him by placing a statue of "her" in the Guide Castle in the Sky. We even held an in-game funeral for her. One Halloween, they had us roleplay with scripts, and I got to play Firiona Vie. It was wild-I was 200 feet tall, and players could approach me to receive a week-long buff and special items. It was one of the most memorable experiences. Here’s another story: one guide got bored and completely lost it. He summoned hundreds of players onto the top of a dragon, creating absolute chaos. It took weeks for the devs to clean up that mess. The guide program eventually ended because Sony got sued for exploiting us as unpaid labor. We worked at least 20 hours a week in exchange for a free subscription. A court ruled that the "pay" was effectively pennies per hour and shut the program down. Looking back, it was fun, but being a guide kind of ruined the game for me. I had the power to go anywhere, clip through walls, and fly across the map. I saw behind the curtain, and the magic just wasn’t the same after that.

This is what MMOs are missing these days! Large scale in game, story/lore building events and GMs/guides!! And roleplaying that doesn't revolve around someone's centric erotic/trauma story 😆 I'll never forget a late night in High Pass on my haughty high elf enchantress, being tempted to friendship by a half elf GM with cookies 💜 But I do totally see how the game could lose a bunch of its adventure zest with those kind of powers :( thank you for participating anyway, and for making the game part of what it was!

EQ was my first ever MMO in 1999. I went to Electronics Boutique in the mall and I was browsing the game boxes and all the cool displays and reading all the guide books and I was flustered. The guy behind the counter eventually piped up and said whats wrong, you look sad. I told him I was flustered and that regular games just didn't do it for me. The only game that I really had liked was Beyond Zork and Phantasy Star. He finally pulled a Neverending Story movie move on me and said I... might have something for you. Although its no ordinary game. Once you start you can never go back to normal gaming again. Of course being a kid I was like well now I HAVE know what it is. The game wasn't even on the shelves yet as he was getting ready to put together the promotional cardboard box display and all the game boxes. He pulled the game box out from behind the counter and said "this" and gently handed it to me. I was like what is this. Its basically D&D but always online. You have to understand that I played a ton of paper D&D but computer games where basically just atari and nintendo mario type games. MMOs were just text MUDS back then. This was the first 1st person perspective full 3D world. He began to explain how it worked and that if I made an account he would guide me in the game. He had a level 22 bard. I bought the game and got my debit card to pay for the subscription. My first experience was WILD. I made a half elf and was trying to make my way to Qeynos from the druid village but I was killed by firebugs and lost my lightstone someone had given me. All I had was that stupid candle and had to walk right next to the wall to try and navigate the dark tunnel (which is pitch black without a light source). Finally made it though. At the entrance to qeynos (sonyeq hehe - fun little fact) there was a dev playing a troll and he was handing out gnome sandwiches lol. My goodness so many stories from that game (like the time I rescued my friend from Blackburrow only to pull.... the entire zone and get everyone killed because I made a wrong turn and had to log off because of all the hate messages. Nothing will scare you more then to turn around and see a level 35 Ogre shadowknight in full gear fall over in 5 seconds after several dozen level 6-9 werewolves swarmed him because of me. I tried playing this game a few years ago but the tech is so ancient I Was like no I can't do this anymore. I'm too spoiled. I REALLY wanted EverQuest Next, and i'm still salty they cancelled it. I have no idea why that was cancelled but now they want to remake EQ3.

I always thought it was a good idea to keep the game play that works from EQ1, keep the locations, characters, music, themes, etc. and use all that to update the graphics to current technological capabilities. Where possible take away the zone walls and that sort of thing. Prevent trains to the zone line, like it other games where the stuff will chase you for awhile, but eventually lose interest and return to their designated area(s). I'd also revamp the crafting system, make it less tedious and crafted items more meaningful and useful, so that you don't have to be an ubber player to get and use excellent gear. Also, the EQ2 model for building properties up basically from scratch using items you collect in the world and bought stuff from Player Studio artists, (even though they ended that a long time ago, us artists appreciate that people are still buying and using the housing items we created for them.)

I've been wanting a new everquest for many many years but I've also wanted a visual makeover of original everquest to modern graphics and style but still keeping the original EQ style. Modern graphics, no addons, no macro's, 1st person perspective, tab target, and focused on group content to the point most classes can't solo effectively at all. Further release it as original EQ was without all the expacs. Only thing thing would be a few changes to very rare spawns and raids to be able to accomodate a much larger population. Can't have 100 people camping for a Robe of the Oracle on an 8 hour spawn timer and only 1 drop and twinking your level 1 monk with an FBSS is a bit crazy as well.

I'd rather not have my fond memories of Everquest defecated on by an EQ3 bot army, microtransaction store. Sadly, which is what EQ has become. EQ was pure magic at least up until Planes of Power. I never tried EQ2 it didn't seem(from what I saw) to have the depth EQ had. I do not think there will ever be another MMORPG that captures that kind of magic again. Even WoW was a dumbed down game compared to EQ, which is probably why it was so popular.

I love the idea of a revamped EQ being branded as EQ3. Going back through everything, fixing what didn't work, improving and expanding upon already existing lore/content (bring back the sense of wonder that EQ once had and make it even bigger!), and bring EQ into the modern day and age of graphics. As I type this out, I wonder, does the EQ team have the resources and crew to make this a possibility? Especially if they're going to continue to support EQ1 and EQ2, I think they'll either have to buy another game developer to start from scratch, outsource it(?) or build the bones behind the scenes for a few years while hiring and continuing to build it. I'd like to see a company like Larian get involved, with the level of detail they put into BG3, the world of norrath could shine. A lackluster revamp will feel like a cash grab with an even further irritated fan base, but given the time/effort it deserves it could be great.

I wonder how many of the old game designs/systems would still exist in a modern EQ? Things were slow, cumbersome, inconvenient, and so on... but they were made that way for many reasons. One reason is that those things made it seem more believable, like a world instead of a game. New games can look absolutely stunning visually, but at the same time feel so fake functionally so it makes it harder to become immersed. If it's not designed right then you are constantly reminded that you are just playing a game, not exploring a world. Combat was mostly a simple and boring auto-attack so you would end up chatting with others while fighting instead of spamming 12345 skills over and over for the whole fight. Recovery was slow so you would be more likely to interact and connect with others while waiting. The world was dangerous to traverse so you needed to become stronger/faster, become knowledgeable about enemies and locations, or find someone who was. Death had a real impact on your character so you had to be really careful; even becoming too injured would increase your risk of dying because your speed and agility would drop. Player interaction tended to be mostly positive in nature because there were far more ways that they could help you instead of inconveniencing you such as speeding up hp/mp recovery, buffing you, finding your dead body, resurrecting your dead body, summoning you food/water/bags/weapons/light sources/et cetera, grouping with you so you don't have to recover after every fight, and so on. I could go on and on about all this. 😛 If Darkpaw wants to modernize everything then hopefully they find modern solutions on how to reproduce what players were able to experience decades ago. They need to think long and hard about what they can do to make an immersive world that's chocked full of systems/designs that constantly cause players to interact and rely on each other in a positive manner.

Can you imagine from a lore perspective a new EQ in which the events of EQ2 was a nightmare premonition experienced by Firiona, pivotal to changes and happenings in the current game of EQ3? Its crazy to me that EQ is still doing well financially. I know that means its just cheap to run and dev the expansions for based on what the game is and how big the player base is but its still pretty cool that 25 years later EQ is going on. Logged my 24 year old account in a few months ago for SnG and it was pretty nastalgic fun for a little bit just running around to different places that have long been abandoned as places people spend time in. It would be really cool to see EQ rebooted

A reboot is a very intelligent idea. As an investor in EG7, that is the kind of thinking / news I like to hear. It would be cost effective and would capitalize on the elements that worked the best for Everquest. (I.E. Going that route would have the most chance at bringing back the EQ magic.) It will be interesting how they would revamp the combat system or update it ... not to mention, in a day of instant information how they can maintain that feeling of magic / mystery in exploring the world. Exploration, and vast expanse of world, was a big part of that magic.

THIS would be the best idea possible. The main reason why I never moved past EQ1 was that I (and a lot of others) were emotionally attached to the characters we spent YEARS investing our blood, sweat, and tears into. And we couldn't take them into EQ2. If they remake EQ1 and allow us to migrate existing characters (or just do graphic and UI updates), they've got a winner on their hands. All the attention the TLPs are getting proves that. But I'd like to see an option to drop down to old school graphics (like the option to use pre-Luclin armor graphics and character models) so those of us who run multiple accounts on a glorified toaster will still be able to do so.

@Redbeardflynn Ай бұрын
I would be beyond shocked if they allowed characters to migrate to a new game. Apart from the difficulty involved in something like that, this is a different game. The question actually came up *a lot* for EQ2 and it was a hard no for many reasons, some technical, some based on just wanting a fresh game, not a continuation. We did want to move our characters over in 2004 though, I remember that argument keenly back then.

The brain trust and talent just simply aren't there to make an Everquest 3... a reboot *could be possible because it's basically just tweaking what is already there. Exactly what Darkpaw has done well with EQ and EQ2.

They also have the advantage of "knowing" the future. So they could integrate existing EQ expansions into the Classic content and better plan the next 10 expansions. Honestly, I'd just be happy for an Everquest that doesn't let NPCs cast through walls and has better pathing

Hype. All that's needed is the existing world updated and with a more streamlined combat system. EQ1 had some of the most immersive world exploration and dungeon delving i've ever experienced in an online game.

EQ was absolutely the best MMORPG experience I have had. My guild, Des Cendres on Mith Marr, knew each other through the game. We talked on the phone, we interacted outside the game. We were friends. I even had a theme song I could blast in global chat, and people would request it. OK, a few blocked me too....their loss. I have never found the sense of community I had in EQ and I really miss it as I am now older and like to reminisce. I hope this happens, EQ reboot or EQ 3. Signed, Yowen No Pants.

I've been saying it a different people's ears and I recommend everybody do the same. There is more than one way you can teleport between two different games. Therefore Everquest 3 can be located by a portal in EverQuest. Any glitches or anything would be completely separate allowing two games to develop but you can keep your original character and cross a zone line onto another server. Some of that technology is already under development with the name saving feature. As well as personas. why? You can have achievements recognized from EQ 1 translate into effects if you gain an eq3 It allows for a parallel reality that doesn't really step on the toes between the two development teams what does make them conscientious of the layout and lore by giving players access to a back and forth. It forces nothing other than a character's name to be recognized and allows for Creative opportunities with anything else that would transfer back and forth. Encouraging new players to check out eq1 while making efforts feel like it's all Unified

A reboot of the original is more than I could have hoped for! I don't play much EQ1 at this point in time (currently playing EQ2), but I think a reboot would be fantastic. I do greatly enjoy a lot of the lore and story that EQ2 has, so I hope they incorporate EQ2 lore somehow in the EQ reboot. Excited regardless!

They should make some software that uses A.I. to update everything in EQ1, textures, animations, models, particles, sound effects, even mechanics could all be easily updated by an A.I. (sorry I know artists will complain that its their own job but they can still help) fix all the broken quests, have same old loot tables, but randomized stats, so you can get a better executioners hood a few drops down the road while farming that DE mask have experience and lvls on gear, so that an obsidian shard can lvl up with you ...or trash mobs just pieces of rare mob gear...like pieces of an obsidian shard that once all collected can be crafted into the one dropped by rare mob etc

Actually... might not take very long to make that game. But, first, LOVE the shirt!! They already have all of the IP itself fully defined, no need to really do anything else with it. They already have the basic graphical designs, just need to redo them with current tech. If they are going with the FromSoftware approach... then even the mechanics aren't going to take much work, as they already have the framework. It's the difference of buying an engineering program, and fully designing a brand new automobile from scratch, then sourcing the materials, hiring new talent to head it up, and so much more... versus taking a classic you already have, and rebuilding it to have modern radio, ABS, power steering, etc. It takes a LOT less time. Normal MMOs today take 5+ years to make. This could actually be handled in 2-4. They already have everything. So, this could be a really brilliant idea on their part!

i think they should make it an open world "NO ZONEING" sandbox world, example "Pax Dei" create a world with "open world" building blocking only area's with resources and spawns roads and things like that. I think it should go the route of ashes of creations dual tab or aim target system. Add in water content, Treasure hunting, raising sunken ships for treasure, open world bosses in the ocean, underwater dungeons like archeage had. GW2 did one thing right, The leveling / area level down system. The drops and events in areas keep players of all levels playing together and attending even older content, everyone gets something either that area's merchant tokens or random junk via smart loot system. i think this is what every game should have. this prevents not having 25 zones no one ever goes into and the game doesn't look dead to new players in starting area's. so far out of all the games ive played over the years my favorite skill tree system is archeage. i love the fact you only need one character, and you can swap gear and your skill sets out and play how you want, no need in 50 alts. have stuff in the bank and roll no need to power level everyone's alts. also leaves things open in raid loot for other guild mates. I think they could take this method and merge it with the traditional eq1 method and make it work. i don't think they need to "reboot" alot of things with the original had issues that would hurt the game in the long term. i think if they combine all that and you have the greatest game ever made, and crush the entire mmorpg market. ashes doesn't look very good in the direction its going, Pax will die off because its a very niche game that will only draw a small crowd. majority of the other games are copy and paste PVP games that only have high population surges 6 months after release. so basically the only competition would be archeage 2 when it comes out.
