Everquest : Boxing without third party software

I find it hard to find a group these days yet a solo player doesn't always have enough DPS to kill the enemies. Playing multiple characters helps. I don't use third party software, just old school vanilla macro commands will make it possible. Here is my brief tutorial video on how I play three characters at once.

I aprreciate this. I played EQ a LONG time ago when it first released for several months, but then the best friend I had moved onto another game and I followed. I have recently gotten back into the game and am just looking for little tips and such to experience this game a little differently. This game wasn't made to solo, and yes, with a lower population count it is hard to find a good group that wants to do what you want to do when you want to do it. This is a nice way to help survivability and to experience different classes at the same time. I am going to give it a shot and see how my PC likes it.

@@eduardopena5893 Yes, I have three boxed team with Warrior, Rogue, Cleric with great success. You can make macros to trigger skills like Taunt, or Backstab just like you can with spells.

@@FezzelwhigsForum I will have to learn a bit more about making macros. It isn't something I ever really got into, but I know it was big back in the day of EQ etc. I started up a ragtag group based on the classes you have and will follow your macros until I understand how they work a bit better.

I also found if you go to alt-o > display > advanced change minimized screen to atleast 60fps follow will work flawlessly even on follow on my bard.

"/hidecorpse looted" is nice too That way it'll auto hide corpses once you've looted them. You don't have to hit the hotkey repeatedly.

I 6 box on one machine with no 3rd party software. 43" tv quartered off for 4 characters, then my main screen split between tank and healer I've leveled 3 full groups to 50 this way. Very reliant on social macros Much easier with casters, can be done with melee using the follow technique that is used in this video here If things get messy it usually ends going sideways but for steady camping and leveling, it's great

Yeah, I had a few bad pulls where things went horribly wrong. It's usually when I play level 80+ It's easy to die after level 80. I'll never claim to be skilled, I just enjoy the game. It's probably why I prefer playing level 1 through 60. It's just more fun.

I haven't played this game in awhile. I have my account names and stuff but can't remember which servers my characters were on? Is there a way to look that up somehow? When I tried to do that manually I couldn't find them. I'm hoping there might be a way to find it by a quick search or customer help?

I don't know how to find characters aside from logging into each server to find them. There have been many server mergers over the years where low population servers were merged together. Good luck. I hope you find your old characters.

I'm just getting back on eq. Haven't played since 04. It is a lot easier to solo now. I would like to group, but I only play at random times. And only about 4 hours a week. Making me a less than desirable guild member

I'm right there with ya, I have never been in any guild for very long. Eventually I just created my own guild for the sake of having access to a guild hall, extra bank storage and the guild portals. I solo or play multiple accounts because it's too difficult to find people who play the same hours as myself. I may find a group one day, but by the next time I log in they all passed me in levels, or I passed them.

@Fezzelwhig's Forum when I used to play(99-04) I was in a very large guild on a PVP server. I just got back on for the first time a week ago. I ran through the tutorial and it was so much fun. But it does move much faster than it uses to. I remember it taking me 50-60 hours to get to level 20. I made it to lvl 13 in just under 4. Then did another to 12 in 2.5. I don't know how much fun it will be to have higher level characters with no one else to play with. The fun of the game was the comradery. I had 5 people at work that all played together. Even some of their wives played. We would take vacations at the same time and have LAN parties. I doubt that is a thing anymore.

You can also multi box using hardware via a usb repeater hub to duplicate keyboard keystrokes. I heard about a guy who had a side group of wizards and he would duplicate his keystroke for say hot key 1 and all the wizards would nuke. He played tank and girlfriend played cleric. Dps was handled by wizards. I imagine you could do it all solo with a pet group. Play the puller and the rest as mages. Pull to the group and then let the pets tank and nuke with mages. If a pet dies, summon a new pet

have googled and googled for things like this for a while... i have not found a single multi broadcast usb hub at all... and everything i find says it doesn't excist... now software that can do it, does excist. Current one i am using is "Input Director" which in a recent update allows me to multibind keys.

Do you mind showing some more high end content? That's where it gets generally hard to box as lower levels a mercenary can solo for you.

At the bottom of my window I have the window symbols for two eq windows overlapping and cannot figure out how to separate them. I have to click on it and then it shows two window so addas an extra step to change windows. Any idea how to fix this?

If you right click on your taskbar at the bottom and choose taskbar settings and then you look for, combined taskbar buttons, click that box and select never and all your everquest instances will not be all crammed into a single button. It saves you that one extra.

Im not the only one boxing with alt tab?!? I molod my druid to 115, but it got near impossible so i added in a shaman and bard. They are 108 now and im 122. Appreciate the advice as I'm not very experienced at multiboxing :D Edit: you don't use alt tab either 😂😂😂

i can box upto 6 toons play them ALL manualy alt tab 100% movement and keys all me as i normaly play that toon… its not hard at all and the fact people can not donit is pire lazy… can even make hotkeys for each toons window cleric is say f9 key and so 4th whatever key you wish. and i run my 3-6. better then an avg group

Yes, as long as you're not on a True Box server. Standard servers without any special rules you can play multiple accounts on a single computer.

I don't know how it works for 105-110, but I have used it with my level 90 mage and it worked fine. One difference is that I'll use my level 90 mage's pet as the main tank because it has better hit points than a mercenary tank. I also team with my enchanter alt to SLOW the mobs. I use a cleric mercenary for heals.

@@jerapierce You can change up the macros, like skip /pet kill command if that character does not have a pet. You can use /doability instead of /cast if it's a warrior or other mele type. abilities like kick, bash, and taunt can be triggered. /timer 10,/assist charactername /pause 5 /pause 9,/pet kill /pause 40,/cast 1 /cast 2 or you can have more spells cast by streamlining a macro like this. /pause 5,/assist charactername /pause 5,/pet kill /pause 40,/cast 1 /pause 40,/cast 2 /cast 3 You should check the spell info to see cast time. some will cast in 20 miliseconds, some may take 50 or 60. If you use the macro count how many spells were cast to make sure they all fire. Don't be afraid to increase/decrease the pause timers. I hope this helps.
