Highlights of the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park in March 1980.
Two very sad postscripts from this game. The former Everton striker, and one of the all time great goalscorers, Bill "Dixie" Dean suffered a heart attack during this game and died. And the injury suffered in this game by Everton's Geoff Nulty ended his playing career at the age of 31.

Don't remember being at this game (I was but a 25 year old photographer at the time) but, suddenly, there I am in all my 25 year old MOTD glory sat at the Gwladys Street End! Made my day!

I'm really surprised why Jimmy Case wasn't shown a straight red card for that challenge on Geoff Nulty, he would have got a straight red card in the modern era in today's game.

What constitutes a red or yellow card has changed massively since this game was played. Fouls much less serious than this are red cards now. Given the consequences, it's hard to argue that it shouldn't have been red then, but the ref presumably didn't see it like that.

It was a knee ligament injury rather than a leg break, but the outcome was no better, sadly.

@@DaveWallerLFC don't think nulty played again, could be wrong but he tried to sue case when case at Brighton but I don't think he was succesful !

Paisley never forgot that tackle and made the point to sell case separate to the lawrenson deal this being 1 of a few reasons the other main one being his like of a beer and a scrap

@@richardmaddog1110 in the late 80s and in 1990 the story in the media was that Bob sold Case because of a persistent knee injury. It was usually said in a 'Bob made a mistake' context. I never heard that reason given since then.
