I played red and blue back in 95-96 when they first came out on the old brick game boys. The safari zone… it took me FOREVER to get my Scyther. I did get all 150 Pokémon and my buddy hooked me up with a Mew from an event at a video game store. The game stores used to have someone come in with a GameShark and if you stopped by, they would give out Mews. He got 4 Mews at an event. Traded him a Gyarados for the Mew as he didn’t want to lvl a Magikarp.

One small note that would be neat to mention with the Safari Zone stuff, is that there was actually one planned for Gold and Silver, and there's even an unfinished one left in the game. Also, come on Nintendo. When are we getting the Pokemon game that has an entire farming sim on the side. You just get a whole upgradable plot of land to plant/water berries as opposed to them just being around the world. Could even add in cross breeding berries for mixed effects if you plant different kinds next to each other. Make a full on side game, not just a basic thing.

I just got Legends Arceus the other day. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to get it. It's become one of, if not my favorite in the series.

Some changes you still forgot are the multiple iterations of the dowsing machine, which is how you find hidden items in the games. Also that tms used to not be reusuable until later gens. There was also a mechanic in some generations that when catching a pokemon, there was a chance it would 100% capture after stars appeared. Another small thing is the bike, in gen 3 there was 2 different bikes, mach and acro that allowed different areas to be explored based on your bike pick. These bikes were removed in generation 4 though. Another small feature was in gen 5 the way grass worked was changed. Grass was split between normal and tall and some grass would also shake guarenteeing an encounter. There was also similar mechanics added for surfing where a ripple in water would appear.

Love the new video, especially the inclusion of Legends Arceus. I wanted to note two small mistakes I spotted: Contests are called "Super Contests" in Gen 4 and you mentioned being able to rename your Pokémon from the menu in Legends Arceus, but that was actually already a feature in the Let's Go Games, though it was moved to Pokémon Center in Sw/Sh. One fun fact about Legends Arceus: Since you can evolve Pokémon manually, its the only way to evolve a lvl 100 Pokémon that evolves by level up. So if you somehow had a lvl 100 Magikarp in another game, moving it over to LA would be your only option to turn it into a Gyarados.

There was a Safari Zone in gen 6 kinda x and y had the friend Safari and The gen 3 Safari Zone is still in omega Ruby but you can use your Pokémon to battle the opponent and you can use your own pokeballs too

I think the most important aspect of the safari zone is its mechanics; not it’s name. So I’d say ORAS essentially doesn’t have one

I was waiting for you to mention the fact that starting with generation 2, you can run. And starting with leaf green / fire red, you could bike in the gateways between routes, and from black and white onwards you can run in buildings

You didn't mention how Pokéblocks and Poffins are required to raise Feebas's Beauty stat to evolve it into Milotic in Gens 3 & 4 respectively before the Prism Scale replaced that method starting in Gen 5.

Pokepelago was actually so goated for growing berries And it was quite necessary because berries are your main source of sustenance during SOS shiny hunts. Using sitrus berries to replenish HP and leppa berries to replenish PP. I remember farming so many i literally maxed out both of them And also pokebeans were really fun to collect

You forgot about the different encounter methods in Gen 8 with symbol and hidden encounter and in Gen 9, it’s only overworld encounters and the synchro machine in indigo disk

In Gen 2 some wild Pokémon outside of the safari zone could randomly flee from battle, such as Phanpy or Teddiursa. This is changed and was removed in Gen 3

I just started a replay of Pokemon Red, and I noticed that you cannot actually see what a move does - it does not show you the power, accuracy, PP, type, effect, anything at all - when you level up, or go to the stats screen. In addition to that, you also cannot reorder the moves for a Pokemon, like you can do with the newer gens. Not sure if this is in Gen 2, but Gen 3 and above supports reordering the moves. Just goes to show the small things that give huge conveniences

You can reorder moves in Gen I, but only in battle. Just use the select button when highlighting a move.

You didnt mention the berry piles in sm/usum, where certain trees had the chance of a berry pile apearing in front of the tree. You could chose to get berries x amount of times and eventually a pokemon could jump out. There is also similar berry trees in sw/sh

While you couldn't farm Berries the normal way in Gen 5... I believe a vast majority (if not all) Berries went to being a wild held item by various Pokemon. Oran on Zigzagoon, Rawst on Growlithe/Vulpix, etc. Idr if it was just the sequels thing or was on the originals as well.

Technically there is a Safarizone ins ORAS but its not used that way. They told a story why its not used anymore the way it used to be (the owner got greedy and lost everything)

pokemon legends arcues is easily the coolest game of the series. best is up to debate, but its easily the coolest and easiest to pick up and play. no abilties and hidden abilites, no hidden encounters. its the one game i can just tell my friends to play even if they dont know anything about pokemon

Am I the only one who thinks Pokemon Legends Arceus shouldn't be considerer as a mainline pokemon game? It has soooo many different features that it should be considered as a spin-off on its own (and the fact that another one, Z-A, is coming means that Legends will be a whole new series of spin-offs, like mystery dungeon and ranger)

Legends arceus, legends z-a, and let’s go are mainline games, they are not spin off games. Gamefreak and the Pokémon company are literally calling them mainline games. They were not spin off games. Gamefreak literally worked on them. Legends arceus, legends z-a, and let’s go are nothing like the spin off games. Neither are they the same as Ranger or mystery dungeon. There is a difference between spin off games and mainline games. All the spin off games were made by different companies which aren’t gamefreak. Bdsp is a mainline game before anyone says it isn’t because it’s made by a different company. It’s really not that hard to tell whether something it’s a Pokémon spin off game or a mainline game. It should not be that complicated. It’s not really a loosely term, it’s just people making it complicated than it should be.

I hope I dont mislead you in this video though lol, imo Legends arceus sounds ALOT better on paper than it does in execution It has a lot of great ideas and new things for the series (New catching mechanics, new battle mechanics, open worldish) But it falls short in a lot of areas. The writing/plot is so boring it hurts imo & the open world is incredibly empty and not engaging. But the new catching mechanics are great! Lots of fun, so I hope you enjoy it lol
