The October Win in 2000, in that Black 3 Car, was the best win on a Superspeedway by the GOAT Superspeedway Driver
@mattkowal903 жыл бұрын
Even though Jeff Gordon has won 12 restrictor/superspeedway races, the Intimidator WILL ALWAYS BE MR. RESTRICTOR PLATE. Ten interesting facts about Earnhardt's record at Talladega: 1.) The car he swept the races with in 1990 was used in both races at Daytona, almost winning the 500 (still hurts) and winning the Pepsi 400. 2.) He and Darrell Waltrip (1982) are the only drivers to sweep the races on their way to winning the championship. 3.) All-time lap leader in the track's history. 4.) He and Davey Allison are the only drivers to win at Talladega without and with the plate. 5.) Won the Spring event 3 times, and the July/October event 7 times. 6.) Second oldest winner at age 49 behind Harry Gant who was 51 when he won in May 1991. 7.) Despite the Spring event falling on his birthday several times, he failed to win on his birthday. 8.) Only racetrack that he scored at least 10 wins at. 9.) Eight of his ten wins came after the plate was implemented. 10.) Four of his final six career wins came in plate races: 1998 Daytona 500, 1999 Talladega Sweep, and the 2000 Winston 500. We miss you Dale, there will never be another driver with your brash, bold, and skillful maneuvers of what you did in a stock car. I also can't believe you would be 70 this coming April 29th. Thank you for watching over the drivers who suffer violent accidents every weekend.
@vinewood8295 Жыл бұрын
That 1990 car was the best hotrod Big E ever had at Daytona & Talladega, also won his Gatorade 125 that year as well as the pole for the DieHard 500 later at Talladega & just missed out on winning the pole for the Daytona 500. Gordon has the most Cup wins with the plate on the engine BUT Dale Sr has the most combined Cup wins total at both tracks as well as the most wins period, a record that will probably never be duplicated or broken. Bobby Allison & Bill Elliott are the only drivers to win at Daytona with & without the plate. Bobby's last 3 wins were at Daytona & Talladega. 4 of Cale Yarborough's final 9 victories were at Daytona & Talladega. 3 of Richard Petty's final 8 victories were at Daytona & Talladega. The theme here is that as these guys got older, they all got better at these tracks at knowing when to make moves and being positions to win.

The late 80s through the 90s was the best era for Nascar. The drivers all had their own personalities, unlike today where everyone is fake as hell (except Kyle Busch who acts like a human being and everyone hates him for it...) They didn't censor themselves to look good to their corporate overlords. They said what was on their mind. Good or bad, it was REAL. Then Jeff Gordon comes along with his squeaky clean image and ruins everything for everyone. After he showed up, the PC era of Nascar began. By the time 2000 rolled around, Nascar was a pathetic shell of its former self. Now it just sucks.

Daytona and Talladega were just tracks where he had something others didn't. I remember my dad cussing and pitching a fit every time something went wrong in the Daytona 500. Then he did it...and Dad wasn't watching...I ran to the garage and told him...and he thought I was playing a joke on him. He saw the news later on and asked why I didn't come get him sooner...and I told him "I didn't want you to jinx it." Plus I was recording it so he got to see it anyway. He didn't find it funny lol.
