the idea is interesting, but unless they use thrust-gravity (which would be VERY inconvenient in combat) the internal layout would appear vertical instead of horizontal to the people inside the ship. This means that basically everything inside the ship would appear to be standing on its side (and you'd probably need a ladder to get to your bunk up there under the ceiling). From the movies we can see a lengthwise layout is used (from combining trajectory and interior/exterior shots) - which would meanthe interior space would not be usable as a vertical building without re-doing the entire internal structure of the ship - which although possibly feasible, would mean a ludicrous amount of work and the risk of damaging or compromising the exterior structure in the process.

I'd figure that since the mon cals developed underwater, they don't exactly have the same type of concept of "up" and "down" like us, since we evolved from arboreal creatures. Their brains are likely perfectly fine with up not being a constant direction. But that's just speculation.

@@BoisegangGaming If you apply artificial gravity that would mean that they would have to have used artificial gravity to make "down" be one of the side walls while the ships were standing up like skyscrapers when planetside - which simply makes no sense. Remember: in the movies we have seen the vessels having a horizontal layout internally. This means the ships would have to have been laying on their bellies down at the ocean floor, adding to stress on the hull. I do concur that it is a cool idea, but not a realisically feasible one. And even construction-nightmares aside, then there is the transition from underwater to flight, which would cause all kinds of trouble for thrust-direction until the ship is clear of the water (also the reason why submarine-launched missiles are pushed clear of the water by pressurized gas prior to ignition)

I quite like the MC80B and the MC90. They're both reasonably powerful and balanced warships, they look good, and the MC90 in particular looks quite graceful. And generally, Mon Calamari ships are as tough as nails. In Thrawn's Revenge, they are the backbone of my navy, along with the Quasar carrier (all hail the Quasar). So, for those of you who think the MC80 Liberty isn't useful in Thrawn's Revenge, I want to say it is a really tough ship. On several occasions, I've had a particularly suicidal MC80 Liberty standing up to an Allegiance or even a World Devastator. Granted, the Liberty wasn't doing much damage, but her shields lasted more than long enough for my forces to regroup to deal with the enemy. And if it had been an ISD or a Victory, I'd have lost the ship, maybe the battle, because I use carriers a lot and that MC80 was covering those Quasars.

In defence, where you've got other big guns like a Golan II or enough fighters to block out the sun, the Liberty works as a turbolaser sponge.

It is actually kind of Ecks fault. I'm not attacking him or anything, but he didn't even try to get everything about Canon Mon Calamari-Ships done. He said we had no specifics or anything besides on the MC85 which is wrong. We have much info on the MC75 too, many variants of the MC80 or similar ships are shown in the comics, and he didn't even mention an idea for canon eras. I know Legends is his personal speciality and that he concentrates on it, but still the good things in Canon are often just neglected by him. At least it feels that way.

Thank you for explaining this. I was reading on the vast wealth of the Hapes Consortium and it mentioned about rainbow gemstones and the benchmark used to describe its value was one gemstone could fetch one Mon Calamari Cruiser. I always thought cruisers from core worlds such as Kuat, Corellia and Nubia were much more preferable but wondered why the gemstone was compared to a mon calamari ship. I know it mentioned that the Hapes currency was worth more than the new republic credit on par!

@EckhartsLadder, Sorry, it's my favorite ship in legends so I have to correct you. The MC80b was a purpose built warship. Its first ship was the Mon Remonda which entered service more than a year after Endor. It had reinforced hull plating (compared to the already tough MC80) multiple backup shield generators, and designed weapons blisters as opposed to the MC80s which were overmatched in almost every configuration by ISDs. This was due to MC80s having "self-defence" laser batteries which were placed to repell pirates not bring concentrated fire on capital ships (largely due to Imperial restrictions). These lasers were later upgraded turbolasers in rebel service. But the design was still a limitation. This was removed by design with the MC80b which had most of its firepower able to be focused forward. It also included 20 Ion Cannons on top of the standard 48 turbolasers of the MC80 standard. These design changes enabled MC80bs to stand against ISDs with parity. Edit: Forgot to mention, great video. Thanks for this. I just had to stand up for the MC80b.

The book does distinguish the Valor-class (D-class it calls it) but doesn't at any point state the ships at Duro are Valor-class. Maybe they were intended to be Valor-class ships as SWTOR had a really confused art development process, but the cover shows a unique Mon Calamari variant.

When I think of the Mediator in the Awakening of the Rebellion mod for EaW, I was struck by how weak it was compared to even an ISD1. MC80 home one style is my favorite Mon Calamari Curser class. I also like the Nebulon B and C frigates and the Executor Class Super Star Destroyer or SSD for short. My personal favorite type of fighter ships are A wings, B wings and Y wings and If I made my own fighters I would make two new classes, the H wing and the M wing. The H wing would be a Bomber like the B wing and the M wing would be a hybrid of a bomber and a normal fighter like the X wing or Y wing. I also like the Quasar Fire class Carrier and the Star Hawk cruisers. I also like the CR90 corvettes and the Hammer Head corvettes. I like the Bellator class Dreadnoughts and I would like a Modified Mandator 4 class dreadnought ( This mandator four would have a dome over the week point to protect it and it would have turbo lasers and laser canons on the top and bottom of the ship ). Let’s just say that the Executor Class SSD is super cool, I like it’s immense size and it’s power but What I would do to update it is that in all the small spaces where fighters would try and use Trench Run Disease I would add a new kind of anti Fighter guns that are small enough to fit in all the small spaces and are fast enough to target and hit fighters, these little guns will not be as powerful as Turbo Lasers are laser canons but it would still be able to shoot down the fighters and at the rear of the ship at its underside where the engines are I would add some protection to the engines, I would add Turbo lasers and laser canons and more of the small anti fighter guns to protect the engines from being damaged by anyone trying to attack the engines. The shield generators would also be protected with some more small anti fighter guns and on the dorsal surface and underside of the ship I would add some Turbo lasers and laser canons. Those would be the update’s I would make to the Executor class SSD, I wouldn’t change the shape and design but I would add weapons to all the vulnerable places.

Eck, I was just watching your old galactic vs with resurgent star destroyer vs the UNSC Infinity, perhaps to even the playing field you could do like a republic fleet(a less op force) like at Umbara or Ryloth and put it up against a full UNSC Fleet like the Earth fleet. You could change the size fleets but I think that would make an even battle and would just be interesting to think about

I was rewatching the clone wars and in episode 217 (bounty hunters) the ship owned by the bounty hunters has a striking resemblance to that of the razor Crest, is this just a visual similarity or an actual close relative?
