I’m Catholic but Ultrakill is still my favorite video game. I would deem the lore blasphemous, but I always just remember that the actual God and angels would never do what they do in the game. It’s just fiction at the end of the day, and I keep that in mind when playing.
@ultraferal61389 ай бұрын
They’re not really blasphemous since Ultrakill’s God isn’t supposed to be the Biblical God. Besides that, the crosses in Ultrakill also do not represent Christ but rather the concept of the Tree of Life.

Attention Blood Rapture community. We hear you loud and clear, and we here at Bone Software are truly sorry for anyone who felt betrayed by Chapter 4’s “slip-and-slide baptism” level. It was not our intention to offend. We have taken full accountability for our actions by firing 3 random staff members, as selected by lottery. We have also taken it upon ourselves to donate a $20 Best Buy gift card to a homeless guy I saw at a Subway one time. The money was cut directly from our custodian’s salary. We will try to be better in the future as we learn, grow, and learn some more. Thank you. -Anonymous Bone Software Employee

funny, we just had a sermon at church today about inappropriate entertainment. "its a metaphor" was one of the excuses he was rebutting.
@HeyGrouch9 ай бұрын
I think metaphors can be super powerful if done right, like Narnia or Lord of The Rings. With games it's a little trickier though. I don't think a violent game has ever made me violent IRL, but I have no way of really knowing. I think games like Doom are really inspiring though. Sometimes it does feel like I'm fighting off hordes of demons, and having imagery of Doomguy being totally badass while ripping apart evil spirits makes me think "Yeah, what I'm doing is totally badass" even if what I'm doing is just turning the other cheek or something. It's hard to tell exactly what effect violent media has on us, but I think if we consume it with a certain level of self-awareness, always keeping in mind what true morality looks like, we can use it to aid us in our spiritual journeys rather than hold us back.
@graniteamerican35479 ай бұрын
@@HeyGrouch I still like fiction, But the main reason I don't appreciate fiction as much anymore is its easy to get carried away by it, and at the end of the day its teaching you things that are fake. as far as using violent media to aid us in our spiritual journeys, this is probably a bad idea. Have you ever found yourself thinking of doing violent things to people (whether real or hypothetical?) This is probably a product of our culture. This last point isn't as biblically grounded, but I've always been annoyed with media that plagiarizes the bible. This usually leads to people building up stereotypes about what the bible says, and not reading the bible. I'm sure everyone is guilty of this including me. If you ever have questions the elders at your church are a great source of wisdom. I'm always amazed when I ask them anything.
@HeyGrouch9 ай бұрын
"Teaching us things that are fake" is an interesting phrase. I think something can be TRUE without being REAL, you know? The Force isn't real, but when Yoda says "Fear is the path to the Dark Side" it's still true, metaphorically. Jesus himself uses fiction to teach. The Good Samaritan wasn't an actual Samaritan he knew, it was just a story he told to illustrate forgiveness and charity. (At least as far as I know. That's what most theologians think.) The violence point you made might be true, but people have been REALLY violent long before any kind of media existed depicting violence. But like you said, it's hard to tell what effect culture has on us. As for people misconstruing the Bible, I agree. Although historically I think the Church is WAY more guilty of that than the media.
@graniteamerican35479 ай бұрын
@@HeyGrouch I'm glad you agree. Things can be correct without being real. I'll only say be careful, where your treasure is your heart will be also. As for misconstruing the Bible, yeah. "Men will rise up even from your own number and distort the truth to lure the disciples into following them." -acts 20:30
