Most of the stories here about why these traits developed and why they no longer exist or are no longer useful are "Just so" stories. Evolution can't really be perfectly described as "It happened because it was useful". If some trait has no selection pressure, then it can drift in any direction. For example, it wasn't because purely because "the human strategy turned into using other animals' coats" that humans now don't have as much hair. It's mostly because homo sapiens evolved in Africa and rose to dominance in part because of our ability to passively cool off while running due to sweat. Then homo-sapiens expanded and quickly out-competed other human species such as neanderthals who were hairy. After this, homo-sapiens using the fur of other animals meant that we could expand into colder climates without having to first develop genetic adaptations such as increased body hair. Genetics and evolutionary biology is almost always more complicated than can be explained in a few easily digestible sentences.

I had a large portion of my tailbone surgically removed, because I broke it as a child and it healed wonky. After I turned around 14ish, I started having unexplainable aching in my lower back and hips, it continued to worsen dramatically until sitting was impossible and getting up from a seated position was AGONY. I suffered for months and months on end because no one but my mother took my pain seriously, doctor after doctor finding absolutely nothing wrong with me. OTC pain relief was ineffective at best, slowly but surely this was destroying my quality of life, and my grades were badly affected. Almost a year into looking for answers we met a surgeon who mentioned that there was a slight (50/50) chance my pain could be relieved by literally just cutting part of it off. Thankfully he was right, and I've been pain-free for almost 10 years now!

Ancient humans didn't evolve to see ultraviolet (UV) light because it wasn’t essential for their survival needs. Unlike some animals that rely on UV vision to detect hidden food sources, follow trails, or spot mates, early humans developed trichromatic vision-sensitive to red, green, and blue wavelengths-allowing them to differentiate colors in the visible spectrum. This color range helped them find ripe fruits, locate water sources, and recognize important social cues, essential for survival in their environments. UV sensitivity, on the other hand, was blocked by the human eye's lens, which protects the retina from harmful UV rays. Since their daily activities didn’t demand UV perception, evolution did not favor UV vision, instead adapting human sight to maximize clarity and contrast under natural daylight.

Our ancestors did not eat raw plants or any plants for that matter, they only ate meat. The reason most people dont have their wisdom teeth is due to a lack of nutrition leading to smaller jaws not devolution or anything like that

Molars are for crrushing and grinding vegetation on a flat surface. If it was strictly for flesh they'd be designed for shearing like canines felines or literally any strictly carnivorous animal on planet earth.
@ViccolasHavocАй бұрын
No dude. Our molars are for grinding down tough vegetation on a flat surface. If we were strictly carnivorous our molars would be for shearing flesh and would be self sharpening like canines felines and literally every other strictly carnivorous animal on earth. The fact that when you get elderly your molars being the first teeth to be ground to the the point of useless is indicative of omnivores and herbivores. We're omnivorus and opportunists and our earliest ancestors likely hunted small prey but would just as likely scavenge, but 85%-90% or our diet was foraging for leafy vegetation and fruits. It's also apparent in our DNA because we and our nearest ancestors, bonobos, chimpanzees and gorillas who are mostly herbivorous lost the ability to produce our own vitamin C because we regularly consume plant material where vitamin C was readily available. Strictly carnivorous mammals are capable of producing their own vitamin c. Canines, felines, weasles and bears and seals don't get scurvy ever.
@Nocturne33Ай бұрын
@ViccolasHavoc what tough vegetation? Go out into nature and tell me what vegetation we can eat raw. Name ONE type of vegetable that is readily available for human consumption out in nature. No tribe on earth eats any vegetation, native americans, inuits, siberian tribes, tribes in africa, the amazon and the phillipines live almost entirely off of raw meat. Teeth are irrelevant when it comes to determining diet, sharp fangs are used as weapons not for chewing meat lol, a panda and a grizzly bear have entirely different diets but the same kind of teeth, while a bull or a horse have flat molars all the way around because they dont fight with their teeth, a camel who is just as herbivorous has large fangs because they use their teeth to defend themselves. No we are not omnivores and opportunists, a true omnivore would be a pig which can eat all sorts of roots, flowers and other vegetation along with meat, while humans out in nature can only consume meat, our ancestors did not have access to fruits and vegetables, the animals that eat the fruits and vegetables are our food. We do not have a similar diet to gorillas and chimpanzees who still eat more meat than people realize. We do not have the same organs or gut bacteria as other primates to ferment vegetation. Other primates have a cecum which is up to 4 feet long and is used to ferment fibrous plants, we no longer have a cecum instead we have the appendix which is the size of a pinky and considered a dead organ because it hasn't been used for millions of years. Other apes also have much longer digestive tracts in relation to the size of their bodies. Humans have a long short intestine similar to other carnivores, we do not have a cecum and we produce lots of bile which is used to digest animal fats. Produce our own vitamin c? You mean our own sugar? Yes we produce our own sugar same as any other carnivore. If what you're saying is true then vegans wouldnt look like zombies lol

The appendix does actually have a use bacteria that are essential for our large intestines. when you have diarrhea from a virus and all the bacteria has been flushed from your digestive tract the appendix actually helps replenish that bacteria.
