I literally just use soudsource because for some unknown reason macOS doesn't come with a built in volume mixer and this app works as one. I dont use the more advanced features but I imagine they would be nice to have if I did any type of audio work.

I ran Sound Source for a few months, but never found a situation where I needed it’s capabilities. Cool idea though.

That's great you tried it. Those times where you'd need to fire QLab over a Dante network, and also have a local usb interface for Smaart on the same computer are probably pretty rare. Hope you've been well dude!

Looks like SoundSource has some of the basic framework as their other apps, just packaged a bit differently. I use Audio Hijack to do the same thing. I setup a session just yesterday for a corporate show where I needed to record Dante from a CL5 - the "broadcast recording feed" using DVS inputs 1/2, to the MP3 recorder then I had Spotify as an application capture redirected through an AU plugin to do some volume smoothing, then out to DVS Dante output 1/2. I also had another application capture for running stingers (Podcast Soundboard) running through another volume leveler plugin to DVS outputs 3/4. This let me re-channelize the application outputs and record my broadcast feed all within one big Audio Hijack session. By turning on the MP3 block I could effectively start and stop my recording all while the other application re-directs were running. It all ran smoothly for 7 hours straight. And this was on an M1 MacBook Air. I'll checkout SoundSource. It might simplify what I'm doing, but what I came up with actually worked pretty well. I also have a copy of Via but found it to be a little less flexible than what I ended up with described above.
@DcSoundOp2 жыл бұрын
Hey Brandon, that's really interesting to hear about. I'm not sure if SoundSource would be as flexible as what you have going there, but I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts if you get a chance to check out the demo. It's great to hear you had that all stable for the whole day on an m1 air! I've had the m1 mini for about a year now and was just about to order an m1 studio... but now they've got the m2 air which even setup w/ 24GB of ram would be a few hundred dollars less. The GPU cores on the Studio will probably still win me over, but the new m1 & m2 airs look amazing for everyday carry.
@bThomps2 жыл бұрын
@@DcSoundOp Yeah, looks like I’ll be upgrading to the M2 Air. It really checks all the boxes. My M1 Air has been phenomenal. I was an early adopter with it and it hasn’t let me down since launch. I use it for all my corporate AV work and have a small Win 10 computer for some of the special windows only software like line array calculators and system configuration software.

This is a truly fantastic app, as with anything Rogue Ameoba puts out. To be fair, SoundSource is a little overkill for me as I'm not an audio professional, I'm a software developer. However, as most creative professionals, I run a lot of stuff and I don't want certain applications outputting everything to my main output device. Example: listening to music with headphones in Spotify, I want the audio to go to the headphones which use AutoEQ (HD600). But often times I have a Twitch stream or KZbin video on my secondary monitor, and that needs to be routed to my speakers at a lower volume to avoid interrupting my music. Sound Control is an alternative to SoundSource, and I used this extensively for years until discovering the latter. It's not as polished as SoundSource, but one cool feature it has is priority inputs/outputs. This means that if I define e.g., my AirPods as having a higher priority than my speakers, when they connect all output audio will switch to this output (unless a certain app is instructed not to) and back to my speakers once they disconnect. I don't think SoundSource has this feature.

I had used Dante Via for audio routing. Ever since I purchased an Audient ID14, I've been using the iD mixer. I didn't even know about Windows 10 internal routing until I saw Liam's comment.
@DcSoundOp3 жыл бұрын
The Audient ID14 mkII looks like the USB-C bus powered interface a lot of folks have been asking for, but I haven't heard much hype about it from anyone. Are you on the original version? The reviews all looks pretty good for the price on that one too. Windows 10 has certainly stepped up on the audio routing front & I'm looking forward to seeing if Win11 has any more options.

@@DcSoundOp I have the iD14 MKII. Previously I used the Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen. The improvement in both the mic pres and the output is obviously. I love it. From what I've heard, the iD14 MKII is the best USB interface at its price point. Although, I'm wondering how the new Focusrite Clarett+ would compare. I wonder which KZbinr is going to be the first to compare those two.

I just bought the Apple USB-C AV multiport adapter, and I am connecting my Macbook Air M1 to my tv via a HDMI cable. When I set the output sound to the tv, it turns out really bad; stuttering/crackling sound. Minutes ago, I downloaded Soundsource and the problem has gone! I am a teacher and I often connect my MBA to external tv and monitors. Should I purchase this? I have a school concert coming up soon, and I afraid that the rented hall audio system will give me a headache. Appreciate your comments and feedbacks!

Hi Wan, just reading your message here & I'm not sure I'm following what is happening. It sounds like you connected your MBair to a TV with a cable, and got bad results. Then you tried the SoundSource app & it fixed the issue? Then you quit the SoundSource app, but the problem has not come back again? Am I following that correctly? HDMI can be really flaky depending on the gear & sometimes just doesn't act right when you first plug things in.
@wanaiman13042 жыл бұрын
@@DcSoundOp Yep that’s correct. Apparently I tried to connect to another tv today and it happens again. I guess soundsource doesn’t fix it. Gotta plug in and off for a few times and pray!

Seems similar to Dante Via and is comparably priced... Am I correct in that assessment?

Hey Dave, their Loopback app is a bit closer to Via, but they all offer varying ways to control and route internal audio & are sorta similar in that way.

this sounds and looksNice. I have a 2017 iMac retina display i7, 40gb RAM, OS Ventrua and an UAD interface. Does it matter the MAC and OS I have and audio interface? I know UAD has its own virtual channels but this app seems to add a simple virtual mixer with nice features I can also use with my other non UAD interface Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56pro. If it does not work...does Sound Source refund the money? thanks. You did an awesome vid presentation.

Windows can now route programs to audio devices natively within settings now. I also use voicemeeter potato with virtual audio cable to achieve only some of what soundsource can do. As a die hard windows user, there's no debating that macos is superior with everything audio.
