I mean tbf Charlie browns like from the 50s? My dad and mom grew up in the 60 and 70s and said it wasn't too uncommon for multiple grades to be in one classroom shared by one homeroom teacher. Usually mornings to teach the younger ones and later in the day is for older grades. Along with a shared subject or topic; usually religion or soc like everyone write a report on Thanksgiving or the founding of the nation. That kind of thing. Think the same thing is in the long long holiday (fantastic cartoon BTW).

Really nice to see someone talking about all those other lesser known Peanuts specials like “It’s the girl in the red truck, Charlie Brown”. That’s the one that tried to do a live action animated hybrid special like Roger Rabbit, but failed. Or “Someday You’ll find her, Charlie Brown”, which could almost be called “You’re a Stalker, Charlie Brown”. Also I am also a huge Peanuts fan, I know the names of Snoopy’s brothers and his sister. There was also that special that added a few siblings that have never come up anywhere else.

i'm pretty sure that Charlie Brown is the oldest one, Lucy is a year younger, and Linus is a year younger than Lucy, Charlie is 8 years old, which means it goes 8, 7, 6. Peppermint Patty, Marcie and Franklin are also in a different school than the other kids, I think they just had everyone in the same class for convenience

But whenever I hear her name now I think back to when I was working at Walgreens, and this guy comes up to my counter fully tatted head to toe, and on the right and left side of his neck he's got weird pin-up versions of Marcie and Lucy, we talk for a sec, those tats come up and and he tells me Charlie Brown is like his life, I say "Oh yeah Peppermint Patty was always my favorite!" to which he frowns and says in an oddly defensive tone, "She's the worst, I hate that bitch." 😂

Peanuts is up there as one of the greatest cartoons of all time for me, next to Tom and Jerry. j It's almost unconventional in how it isn't particularly upbeat, but I have such a profound love for it in how it explores anxiety through Charlie Brown. I get that the Pumpkin and Christmas special are iconic to a lot of people. But for me? "You're in Love, Charlie Brown" always hits. Looking forward to seeing the rest of these. There are some insanely slept on Peanuts specials that nobody ever talks about. Loved how you talked a lot about the insanely good character acting in the Pumpkin special too.

As someone who actually saw all stars, I think it's the best example of Charlie Brownism; you can keep living without success. Unlike the standard American philosophy of success being money, girls, respect, etc, etc, etc, Charlie Brown never needs that to keep walking. He keeps going all the time with or without success, and we can empathize with that truth far more than if he actually won all the time.

Fun fact about the Christmas special: In the years since it was first aired, CBS' commercial breaks had slowly increased in length, to the point where it would have been impossible to show the whole thing in a half-hour timeslot. They'd gotten around this by trimming out certain scenes - which naturally pissed off a lot of fans. When ABC acquired the broadcast rights in 2001, they decided instead to show the whole special, uncut, in a full hour-long slot. However, this meant the special only ran for 42 minutes (the full 25-minute special, plus 17 minutes of commercials), and so they needed something to fill in the rest of the slot. For the 2001 broadcast, this gap was filled by a short retrospective hosted by Whoopi Goldberg, featuring cast members and crew from the original special. From 2002 onwards, though, this retrospective was replaced by _Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales,_ which was produced specifically to fill that scheduling gap.

It didn't strike me until just now that the moment when Charlie Brown is flipping out about his first time being called to the principal's office might not be familiar or relatable to people who have never had an anxiety disorder. The girl in that one didn't specify what was wrong with her, though. She was in the hospital but eventually came home. The one with the kid who had cancer (leukemia) was "Why, Charlie Brown, Why?". She was Linus' friend. That one came out the year my mom was diagnosed with cancer : (
