In the game Star Wars: the old republic the rank of acolyte is actually given to those who are going through the trials to become a sith apprentice, meaning that (at least at that time) the rank of acolyte was lower than the rank of apprentice

You give Revan too much credit. He didn’t introduce the apprentice master relationship. We see that single apprentice relationship all the way back with Lord Simus and Naga Sadow, and then Naga Sadow tried it with Jori Doragon. Marks Ragnos even made Exar Kun the master and Ulic Qel Droma the apprentice when he christened them into the order of the Sith Lords. Revan merely followed in the footsteps of these earlier Sith.

It is not the same. Initiates are the ones before going to Koriban. and acolytes are the ones who are already on Koriban and are tested the last time. Oversers often insult acolytes by calling them initiates, but it is not the same

Maul was a Sith, but not a Lord. He was only ever trained to be an Assassin, and while he was a skilled, cunning, and formidable warrior, ultimately he was just another tool that was discarded once the tool was broken. Maul was not even a true Darth, as he was the student of the Apprentice, and his training was against the Rule of Two since Maul's master, Sidious, was still Apprentice to his own Master, Plagueis. Plagueis actually allowed Maul to be trained so long as his training was not to be a true Darth, only as an Assassin. While Maul was referred to and even addressed as a Darth or Lord, it was more for the sake of appearance, especially in TPM, where Maul was introduced to Nute Gunray and the Trade Federation by his master as Darth Maul and later addressed by his master as Lord Maul. As stated, this was pure theater, to conceal Sidious' own role as the Apprentice while using Maul as a scapegoat to misdirect the Jedi. Even Yoda and Mace Windu were uncertain as to whether the Sith that Obi-wan defeated was the Master or the Apprentice. After Sidious' public identity as Palpatine was elected as Grand Chancellor, Sidious "celebrated" his triumph with his master on Coruscant, getting Plagueis drunk with wine in order to inebriate him... and then seized his destiny to become the Dark Lord of the Sith by killing Plagueis while he was drunk and helpless. Sidious lost his "apprentice" but he had become the Master. As for Maul, when he was restored to sanity years later by Mother Talzin, Maul sought to become the Dark Lord of the Sith with his brother Savage Oppress as his apprentice. Ultimately, all his plans and machinations were undone and he lost both his brother and mother, as well as much of his power and resources in the galactic crime world. During the Empire, despite rebuilding some of what he lost as the Red Dawn syndicate, Maul still lost everything and by then he had denounced the Sith and even dispensed with the title of Darth, no longer associating himself with the affiliation that had used and betrayed him and robbed him of so much. Instead, he devoted himself to the one thing he had left, his desire for revenge upon the Jedi who had cut him down and thereby robbed Maul of what he believed would have been his destiny. He'd tried to take Ezra Bridger as a new apprentice, but that was more so he could have a useful servant and perhaps a longing for companionship, but that didn't work out either becuz Maul used and betrayed Ezra by how he'd harmed and threatened those Ezra cared about (such as blinding and trying to kill Kanan as well as holding Hera, Sabine, Zeb and Chopper hostage and trying to have them executed, breaking his word to Ezra)

Some things are correct but not all is true either. Darth maul before his match up with new emperor Palpatine what you forget is he was given the title of assassin to trick his master. Sith master the wise 1 of his nick names. Pap for a sith he was still trained in all aspects yes even like you said with the red dawn correct. He could use sith lighting but preferred fighting up close and personal and boasting his skill or power was his weakness. Since he trained basically as his adopted son to become a secret sith. The years and task given to a apprentice or even acolyte/ Initiate the lesser stages is proving there worth but also getting stronger. To eventually kill their master. Master kill apprentice as seen in star wars: close wars. Their can only be 1 master & apprentice when it comes to the rule of 2. Given this his claim or rule and master and emperor is void. Which makes his new apprentice Darth tyrannas or count doku better known now as just a fake. So to have not only the crime syndicates but the world of mandalore and its own elite army/fighting clan the galaxies respect and honor. Then to have your new Darth tyrannas apprentice count, have his own assassin like asaj ventress but in new savage opress. Goes with his brother being the original and first Sith apprentice meaning he still holds everything he has being still alive. Title, rank, and power looking in being resurrected. Or coming back from death is Darth zion mode, still being a apprentice maybe but also being a master because of cheer skill, talent, & potential and experience with sith training or some sith and the rest sith assassin like or sith marauder like. Of training so only way for him to respond emperor Palpatine knocks on your front door on your home base/ planet just to destroy your brother and have you begging for mercy. He didn't know his master killed his master. But to give him credit on a already full sith compared to fallen jedi/dark jedi. Sith=Darth is given to the rank of someone who must have either power, discovery, creation, alchemy, sith powers, and or facing another sith lord or Darth of either equal title or higher. Then last not least very known just completing your orders or challenges from your master. So besides that he's still technically a Sith or more training and experience with pap then count. Besides having mastered the light side if the force

In the book Darth Plagueis, Palpatine does give details about Mauls' training. When Plagueis asks him about Maul referring to himself as a Darth, Palpatine states that he allowed him that privilege only as an ego boost and had not really trained him in many Sith ways, thinking of him only as what his name indicated: a blunt weapon.

Sadly, the more I learn about Maul, the more it seems he was cheated. It appears that Sidious never intended for Maul to be his replacement, but rather to be his eternal pet. So no I wouldn't consider him a 'Lord' as much as I'd like too.

No the ranking would be like this: Acolyte -> Sith (Warrior/Inquisitor) this is also where apprentices fall in -> Sith Lord (can also be an apprentice) -> Dark Lord of the Sith (Darth) -> Dark Council Member -> Emperors Wrath/Emperors Hand/Emperors Voice -> Emperor
