I have actually experienced that white room method somewhat. In my old 3rd grade school where I used to live, there was this punishment room called "The Blueroom". When you got in trouble you were locked in a small, featureless, cyan colored room, with no windows, posters, or anything to do for multiple hours until the school day was over. You were not allowed to have phones, and you were patted down for trinkets and such, so you couldn't bring something fun inside with you. Never checked if the school is still running, but yea, its not very fun.

They had me in an actually white room in elementary school. There was a clock on the wall though, it was still windowless. And had plain grey tile in a plain small room with a steel and grey desk bolted to the ground in the middle. They would lock you inside for hours, with study materials and restroom breaks if they liked you. They didn't like me, in fact I often missed lunch in that room. I can still hear that florescent buzz and the exact tone of the clock ticking, smell that vinyl tile and fresh paint smell. Oh it was a small town in Nebraska in the 2000's, not some distant era. I'm an adult and I have issues from the multiple kinds of psychological torture I endured as a child. They will do anything to dehumanize people instead of sympathize with anyone that doesn't fit in.

@@emilyh.9045 I mean it IS technically illegal. But they tend to choose children that don't have... the most caring or attentive caretakers. And since they choose children from neglectful or abusive households, ones with undiagnosed (missed diagnosis or neglect to care to check) learning disorders, or simply children who are getting bullied for whatever "reason" and calling THEM disruptive... No one is going to help those children and they know it. Not the staff, if they need the job. And the government doesn't care as long as they lie about what they do to you and how long. And when the child speaks up? They pull up a record of "issues" and call them a lying problem child. Children are treated like less than second class citizens, and you were lucky if anyone with rights stood up for you. Because it's been so long for us who have come to terms with it, that you cannot pursue justice only discuss why people should LISTEN when children finally speak up. Because we know we couldn't be the last still dealing with it.

It should be noted that the iron maiden is more of a fictional torture device, with no verifyable evidence that it was used during the middle ages. Stories about them only started appearing during the 1800's, and some believe them to be a misinterpreted form of "schandmantel," or mantle of shame, which was basically a wooden barrel strapped to someone's body to shame them; like the stocks except you could walk around. The same could be said for the blood eagle, as while there are accounts of them in the Nordic sagas, it's debatable whether this was actually practiced by the Norse. There are a lot of outlandish elements in the sagas, which I've heard some people refer to as "Viking Hollywood," so it's possible the blood eagle is just fiction. Still, between them, I'd say reality is more gruesome than fiction.

yeah, many of these are either fully made up, or somewhat twisted to make them sound more horrific (seriously, way too much butt stuff going on here compared to actual documented torture). to add to your list, the pear and the pendulum are also fabrications. in fact, I'm pretty sure the pendulum physically couldn't work. the human body has lot of resistance, so it would lose kinetic energy quickly, and not get very far.

2 things: 1. Yes, I’m watching this at 3:43 am. 2. I read one in a book where they wanted to get info out of a dude. They called it the bonnet but there was a block of wood and some wire. The block went in their mouth and if they moved or gagged or anything it would cut them. They could tighten it too. Also where was water boarding?

Most of that "torture-devices" still could be seen on public children's playground all over Germany. Just slightly altered and renamed. Carousel, water play, a swing, Seesaw, Teeter-totter, Rocking horse, rope swing, treadmill, Playtower, climbing net, Boulder-Wall. The kids of the 70-90s grew up in a very hostile environment.
