Nice video. I got my 7 seater Y last week too. It fits my family perfectly. My wife is 5"3 and my mom is 5"2, they can fit the 3rd row with no problems, especially my mom is on the skinny side so she can sit there comfortably. We took a short road trip at weekend with 4 adults and 2 little kids, the two car seat made some troubles, but its still very doable. So the 3k upgrade is a no brainer if anyone having similar situation.

where do the car seats go? Second or third row. And if it is the second row, does it not lock in people who are sitting in the third row?

When in the third row 7:37 pull the head rests up; that helps and is vital in a rear-ender. When all the seats are down 5:05 you actually have a decent amount of flat (if slightly inclined) space. Great walkthrough, thanks! :)

We got our 5 seat 2021 Model Y in December and are very happy with the finish. There was a small hole in the rear bench seat, and the charging door didn't fit flush, but they fixed that without any issues. Love our Mira Mar service center.

Great comparison, Thank You 😊 I still don’t understand why manufacturers put 7 seats in to small SUV’s. There is not enough space to be genuinely practical. Sure very small kids for a very short period of time, maybe two minutes down the road, but even then, the second row then has to be pushed forwards to make room for row 3 which reduces the normally ok leg room for row 2. If you really want 3 rows, buy a bigger car. Even in my Q7, the third row is only ever for small kids.

Great review! You said there were 7 inches between the rear row and middle w/ middle row at its most forward position. How much room between the middle row and front seats at that position?

I have a 2020 Model Y and based on this comparison I still prefer the 2020 model. I had some issues with panel gaps and the trunk but thats all minor stuff overall. I prefer the glossy black finish and how the center console flips up and down. Still a great video though.

This might seem petty but I have to ask. So, I test drove a model Y and was shocked at the lack of visibility through the rear windshield. The Tesla only has a slit to look through. It’s almost non existent. I’m used to a huge rear windshield. Now, I realize that the Model Y has a camera, but I don’t like that I’d have to push a button and look at the screen in order to scan behind me, rather than a quick glance in my rear view mirror. Feels unsafe. What do you think about this?

It's kind of a trend with aerodynamic vehicles that have tall rear ends these days and that's all I've driven for my last 4 cars, so I'm used to it. I honestly can't think of a single time it was an issue for me. The parking sensors, rear camera, side cameras, and tilting mirrors make it the easiest car to back into a parking space I've ever had.

5 has more cargo space because the rear deck is lower and one of the storage spaces isn't taken by the third row.

Just bought the 7 seater and have to say the fit and finish issues still exist, unfortunately. One of our rear windows was chipped along the edge, there's a clip missing on the plastic trim below the 2nd row seat, the motors that drop the second row don't actually drop them, and there are some exterior panel alignment issues, too. Curious if anyone else's Tesla has several places where it creaks or clicks?

3rd row is not heated. The steering wheel front and second row is. One way to control them is within the climate settings on the far left there's a tab to control heaters.

I really don’t get the industry infatuation with third rows. If you seriously need 3 rows, you need to buy a damn minivan. It has essentially become something that is only added to cars to add another bullet point on the features list.

As someone who did, it's overflow seating for when grandparents or friends visit and we need 6 seats to take one car out for dinner or local activities. Fits my young children just fine. When we don't need the extra seats they are down and kids get 2nd row. Better than a minivan.

You didn't mention that the 2020 center console is actually glossy black and that you have a wrap on it. I'm not convinced Tesla has fixed panel gaps and paint issues, you just got a good one. Did you trade in your Model 3?

Last I saw, Elon said that not giving a value for FSD on trade-in was not fair and they'd fix it. That was not Kevin's experience a few weeks ago when he got a trade-in quote.

Every manufacturer has pros and cons. Tesla is #1 in performance, technology, safety, charging network, and range, but not reliability or build quality. You can't have it all and still have a competitive price. There's no comparison between the things you mentioned because they're the same for both vehicles.
