We should also keep in mind cultural differences. I’m southern European and to appreciate what people do for you and manifest that gratitude is a very natural thing. I’m now living in Central Europe and things work differently. To be kind and grateful may be seen as being naïve or they may think you want something from them, unfortunately. Always a great pleasure to listen to this podcast. I’ve learned so much! Thank you to all the team ❤

As a balancing counterpoint to someone who commented about the length of the video - I thoroughly enjoy this long form format. It feels like I’m a fly on a wall in deep and authentic between two people I respect, which is not something we get the opportunity to participate in these days as often as I’d like. It reminds me of when I was a kid sitting on the floor playing with my toys while listening to my grandfather and uncle have deep and respectful discussions about politics and history. I found it so fascinating and loved being there, despite not understanding much of what they spoke about as I was too young, I still loved the vibe of the room where adults were having respectful discussions and learning from each other. This definitely wouldn’t be possible in short form content, and there’s plenty of that being offered. Edited versions often cut out nuanced context and the ebb and flow of what makes a conversation natural - including pauses for contemplation, for appreciation, for letting something sink in (and we as listeners are also given that time to let that moment sink in). A conversation in heavily edited and redacted format simply doesn’t resonate as much as this format does. And like others, I listen to this while I’m gardening or washing dishes, and it allows me to enrich an otherwise uneventful task (which sometimes is good to be spent doing in silence) with knowledge, wisdom and the joy of listening to two humans connect with each other. I know that you, Rangan, have decided long ago that you aren’t changing from this format in order to suit audience who prefer it. I hope that this helps to reaffirm why your decision is an important and good one for many of us. Thank you!

It Sounds easy, when you are able to cummincate 4 weeks of Stress ahead. But what if you don't know how stressful and mong the next working period will be and what other complicstion and demanding private tasks and projects will add to your work stress? What if you think you can handle and try to be calm and nice to your wife and kid and only realize too late that you're already freaking out, and if you can't sleep well most nights, specifically in the allergy period, and.... Even morning routines are not enough then, you even forget some of the thing you frequently wanted to do for yourself. Then you need grocery shopping l, healthy cooking and eating, socializing, housework, .... needing 30 hours a day, because your "Me time" can aonly start when you're already supposed to sleep or go to bed at the same time as your wife. I love your ideas and really need to try to implement some more of them, but real life is tough.... 🙈

Bless your heart, I feel your heavy load. Have you actually sat down and told your wife exactly how you feel and what a battle you find life at the moment? If there is love between you PLEASE tell her so you can work as a team to support each other. As a wife to a wonderful man, the one frustration is that I have to beg him to tell me what is worrying him when I can see he is not himself. He always says he " doesnt want to worry me " so keeps it to himself. This is even more worrying to me as I am imagining the worse case scenario! Please don't keep all this to yourself, it's a lonely, exhausting way to live. Good luck my friend
@ameliahamilton8637
@ameliahamilton8637 7 ай бұрын
Foresight is awesome, but it's also important to be able to learn to say in the moment of stress: "Ahhhhh! I'm freaking out right now but it's not about you!!!!!!" Or come right back if you messed it up, and say, I'm so sorry I talked to you like that. I was stressed and overtired, and that isn't an excuse, and I should never talk to you like that, and I will continue to work on not projecting stress on you. I just want you to know that I wasn't mad at you and you didn't do anything, I was misplacing my stress and frustration at you and I'm sorry." Apologizing to our kids like this is equally important, when we snap at them. Not that they don't need discipline, but when we are aggressive with them because we aren't dealing with our stress well. It keeps the relationship clear and teaches them to be vulnerable and how to apologize, and strengthens the respect for when we actually are disciplining them.
@ameliahamilton8637
@ameliahamilton8637 7 ай бұрын
Everytime we take a chance and voice our vulnerabilities or take accountability, it helps us be more aware the next time we do it, maybe even sooner than we realized it the last time. Starting a pattern of vulnerable and non-violent communication during a moment of stress is important work.

Sharing experiences and insights in books and interviews is a blessed thing, thank you. For most of us (women) it's a male privileged thing to just take off and become a monk, I've lived with monks but I would never be considered the same level ever nor be anything more than the one doing the cooking and washing up for them, very rare is it for a woman to be safely able to take up such a discipline and be able to sit in stillness as a way of life. I would, however, recommend living in these communities if you are able, there's a lot of treasure there to be gleaned.

Loved this episode. On the area about love and always thinking that your interaction with the person or animal you're with could be the last is a balance of being grateful and in living in the moment and also not making you anxious so that you find it difficult to be able to live in the moment as you are projecting any potential hurt and loss in the future to today. I can be anxious especially as ive had 3 bereavements in close proximity so im on edge as to what or who is next. Grief and life does this so its all a balance as everything mostly is in life.

Same! I listen while I work and love the deep dives. If someone's interesting, I wanna hear as much as they wanna say 💜 I personally feel like they are a good length, a good pace, and move along efficiently. Even if it takes me two days to listen, I'm grateful for the indepth interviews. One hour interviews always feel like it's wrapping up before I got to really know the person, and I usually go elsewhere afterward to find a longer interview with that person.

Thinking that ppl should be happy all the time is more damaging than anything else . This belief system and obsession with happiness is illusive and creates an unrealistic expectation and causes a lot of disappointment and can lead ppl to addictions. Look at the face of a newborn when he first comes to this world, is he laughing and consumed by Happiness? Happiness comes and goes in this life, trying to grab onto it and thinking, being is about happiness and there is something wrong with ppl for not being happy is being disconnected from reality of our world.

I have compassion for you because you think you die. Nobody dies proven by physics. WE are all being created constantly, so we couldn't die if we wanted to. Energy is energy whether this dimension or another. Quarks are constantly bursting forth spinning billions of times a second as 3 points of light forming protons and neutrons. These words come from the book The Quantum World written by the physicist Kenneth Ford. We are magnificent machines constantly being created. WE are AI, better than AI. Since we are electrical, each atom and quark and cell being like computer chips, then we ARE better than AI. AI is based on us. We all consist of 7 billion billion billion atoms each one an electric energy field. Because quarks are spinning so fast, then so are atoms. These are what people call chakras. In the book Hands of Light written by the physicist Barbara Brennan can be seen many pictures/diagrams of what we all look like as eternal electrical energy fields and holograms.

Look every stage is too do with age..life changes you.your needs are so different when your 50 plus..than when your 20 30 40...don't get why you build this so out of character..lots of men and women chose to be alone..they had great lovers and great marriages...kids...and so on..rubbish about stiff upper lip and brits only..come on man..its called human being.

No way. You're abbreviating several stages of his life into a negative perspective. He didn't come back for the money. He made money while following his passion years after he left the monastery. The monastery taught him to follow his purpose and passion and listen to his inner guidance rather than the din of the world, and ultimately we all benefit, because we get to hear his perspective and choose to let it help us in our own lives.

You two have beautiful and very important mindset, sharply pointing out many things that I already experienced and even somehow already understood, but not yet got clear eno7gh in my head. Such an interview really helps sorting out things that gathered in my head, I'm so grateful for that 😊🫶🇩🇪
