On Discovery Princess Christmas Day 2022 in Puerto Vallarta, there were people who had not been accounted for. Apparently, they contacted the ship to say they were on their way. The Captain made an announcement to let us know why we hadn't left yet. He said it's Christmas and he felt generous, so we would wait. He said go to starboard side and give them a warm welcome when they arrive. He turned it into an amusing event.

My guess is all the complaints come from the runners themselves. If you don't want to be humiliated for being a pier runner, either stay on the ship or don't ever be late, running the pier for your ship

Sometimes there are circumstances beyond your control and you will be late, but just shopping and casually taking your time to get back to the ship and delay thousands of others from continuing their vacation because you are inconsiderate and think everything is about you. Also to the folks who were giving John Heald a hard time saying he was being cruel, lightened up. I've never seen so many uptight people in the comments. On the subject of the 'big screen' pool side, we thoroughly enjoyed it in Ensenada, Baja-California, Mexico. We sat on our NCL ship's room balcony with snacks, our feet up on the foot stools, and watched the World Cup Soccer game over on the Princess ship that was adjacent to us. Perfect view of the game.

Don't know how John Heald can deal with some of these people. Personally, we happen to like the MUTS on Princess Cruises, but understand not everyone does. And that's ok. Cruising offers a lot of different experiences for a lot of different types of people. Not all will like something, where others will. Just like everything else in life.

People that are "sensitive" should stay home in their own bed and never walk out of the house.. If they are among the inevitable pier runners at every port, then they deserve whatever treatment they get.. I have been on several cruises, and if it is a cruise booked excursion that is late, the crew usually makes and announcement if it way late. IT is also not one or two people involved, it is 30 or 40 or more.. When you see very few people coming to the ship 30 minutes after they were told to be back on board, then tough luck, they are lucky the thousands of others on the ship are still there to laugh at them.

I see and read a lot of cruise content and learned long ago, that anytime someone posts a complaint and states that "Everyone on the cruise agrees with them" that I can ignore that complaint as it is likely not valid and says more about the poster than it does about the ship/food/entertainment/service etc that they are criticizing.

I believe cruise lines should give a 5 minute overtime period. They could charge $5 a minute to the late arrivals in order to discourage people from taking advantage of the overtime. The ship could make up the 5 minutes by going 1 knot faster for 15 minutes. I have never been late myself but I really feel bad for families who miss the ship by a couple minutes and then having to spend thousands to fly to the next port, assuming they brought their passports and enough cash.

Sensitive people is a correct interpretation of some of these people. As said, some people just have no sense of humour at all! I think it would be great if Carnival played this for pier runners. I worked on a temp job once for a company making car seats for Ford and Toyota. When someone screwed up on the line they played La Cocorocha on the PA system. What a hoot! 🤣

If you book a cruise line excursion and something happens to make you late its noone's fault. But for those people who just can't seem to leave the bar early enough, or has to stop in one more shop and are late back, I'm all for a little embarrassment. Makes them more aware of the time at the next port. Of course retuning just in time to see your cruise ship sailing out of the harbor also reminds you that punctuality is important.
