I have gotten away from food videos, no particular reason, until I rediscovered your program. My first food star favorite was Julia Child, but the practicality of James Barber, the Urban Peasant (yes, I am that old), captured my interest. You are both practical and entertaining. Well done!

OMG I'm French -Canadian and my mom used to make this all the time when I was a kid but we call it "Poulet divan" and in French divan is a couch! Anyway nobody I know even knows this recipe so I always thought my mom invented it! We do it a bit differently though, we put a layer of cooked chicken in a pyrex and a layer of cooked broccoli over that and then the cheesy-mustardy sauce on top. It's great!

Sarah....that sheepish smile after reminding us to sharpen our knives and then realizing that your knife needs a sharpening. Funny! It seems like the not-so-sharp-a-knife thing happens more often, actually. BUT Sarah and the Everyday Food crew are absolute pros - - keep up the good work. Making cooking entertaining takes a lot of hard work, and you folks are doing it excellently - thank you!

Suzi SaintJames Sounds great! Did she add them pre-cooked, or dry? (I am honestly learning.)
@suzisaintjames
@suzisaintjames 5 жыл бұрын
@@femmeofsubstance , it was a long time ago, but I'm thinking precooked noodles. But cooked on the firm side as they will softener a bit in the baking. Because everything else is precooked, it's not in the oven to "cook" anything. It's in the oven to heat everything evenly hot, meld the flavors with the sauce and brown the topping. That's why Sarah pan browned the chicken first. If you'd use raw chicken it would have to bake a LOT longer, probably a couple of hours to cook the chicken well done. Then add the topping to brown. Ask questions any time. 😉 Sending lots of love 💜 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵.

Suzi SaintJames Thank you so much, Suzi! Yes, I’ll make it w/ noodles! You are right - custom this recipe by adding different vegetables, this recipe would taste delicious anyway. If I am correct, this recipe seems a close cousin to chicken a la king (?) , which is a fantastic popular dish. Thank you again. xoxo

Find her a bit condescending do you? I sure as hell do and this new Wicked Witch of the West get up there wearing isn't helping. I haven't seen them in a long time. They make damn good money and they want to look frumpy so they can relate to the average woman... what an insult. No women in my family look like that no matter what their age. I still find them to be condescending snobs. Enough said I couldn't even recognize her or Lucinda the spurtle Myrtle woman who pushes that crap on QVC. Greedy and privileged. Looking frumpy & like they have a lot of wisdom ; Definitely disagree with the latterof those descriptions for these individuals. It's actually funny They look like they're getting ready to go to a costume party on Halloween. Those who think they're talking to fools become fools themselves.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Loving their ridiculous mascarade.

I noticed that you did not chop the root bit of the onion, is that what you would advise?
@RandallJT84
@RandallJT84 5 жыл бұрын
You want to keep the root end of an onion intact in order to keep the onion together when chopping it. The root ends hold the structure of the Onion so segments don't separate thus not allowing you to prep efficiently. Same principal goes for a Shallot.

This is what I thought but I had a girl friend once who was less picky with onion and I wondered. Mind you my thoughts were on other things :-) . The recipe looks good and doable by me - must get an 8x8 Dish - I know that is 2 Lites. :-)) Mine will be adjusted dimentions.

Good and simple recipe. But as I've noticed with all Martha Stewart-related cooking videos, lots of food gets left in the vessels. In this video, a great deal of the mushroom sauce was left behind when a spatula could have given your more yield AND made clean up less messy. I'm surprised because Martha's mother was very big on getting everything out of the vessel. Go Big Martha!!
