In late 2012, after intensive reflection I settled on the R/T 5.7/6 speed/3.73 lsd as the best balanced package for me, in the world today as I see it. My 2013 R/T is my toy. It has to serve no practical purpose at all, except of course as a backup if my Trailblazer lays down on the job. Sure, the old hotrodder in me could appreciate an SRT8, but being realistic, how often would I be able to go out and drive it to limits that could exploit its capability, without risking tickets, points, higher insurance premiums, etc? The kid in me that used to occasionally street race, is long gone. The R/T suits me just fine, fun to drive, and after 7 years of ownership, I have 0 complaints! There is fast and faster and there is fast enough. Ifa person insists on getting in trouble, the R/T is capable of handling the job very nicely. Love my Challenger!

Interesting that my stock 2006 Magnum R/T ran the 1/4 mile at the track at 14.1, which equals about 5.6 seconds 0-60. I'd expect that Challenger to be a bit quicker as mine is rated at 340hp, and surely weighs a bit more, and am sure it actually is. I'd predict very low 5's if ran under the same conditions as my Magnum was that day.

The cold weather does effect grip, tires can't heat up enough to grip the way they would in let's say 70 degrees when most do their testing and tuning. And a little wheel spin is helpful with launching, because it helps generate a bit more heat to the tires

I have a question and it may sound like a "smart ass" one but I really want to know. I see SOOO many people on all these Challenger videos (just got one myself so I have been checking them out lol) talking about performance or comparing to the out performance of the Mustang GT, etc. How many of you are actually out there racing or needing to push these cars to point of needing to make a .5 + second difference in your 0-60? Are theri really a lot of "racers" out there buying these things OR are there just a bunch of people on youtub talking shit just to be talking shit and do nothing more than drive on the same 30mph streets we all do everday with their Hemi lol? Not bashing either, but very curious. Share with me what you do with your challenger (or other newer type Carmaro, Mustang, etc..)
@Mississippiking0310 жыл бұрын
Well, I just got a good deal on a 2014 R/T. The car only has 2,200 miles! Lol! I've done 20 0-60s and I race mustangs and camaros every chance I get! I talk shit until I get next to a 5.0 mustang. Lol
@86shelbyzofdoom10 жыл бұрын
The two cars are worlds apart. When I was shopping for a car, the Mustang just didn't grab me as much. Yes, the 5.0 has a slightly softer powertrain, is wicked fast and isn't as heavy, but the Challenger just struck me as a better cruiser. The interiors, while comparably simplistic, are quite different size-wise. The Challenger fits bigger drivers better (I am 6.2"), and as far as performance goes you are splitting hairs between the two. Does the Mustang handle better? Yes. Is it faster? Yes. So, if you want more of a "race car" than a daily driver, you buy the Mustang (I might have a bad frame of reference as I test drove a Mustang with the track pack, so it had somewhat tight Recaro seats). The Challenger has personality for days though, and slap a good exhaust on it and just listen to the music. I love my 2010 R/T, and it has plenty of get-up and go.
@rubbersole7910 жыл бұрын
I think it's a combination of "bragging rights" and just knowing that it's there. Everything else is only noise. In the end you buy what you want and how you'll use it. I for one would go with a Challenger, as I often take a 180 mile round trip run, along with the occasional 1200 mile weekender. So for me, it's wanting a cushier ride and being able to pass anything I want.
@mrhoffame10 жыл бұрын

@Blonde_Cyborg9 жыл бұрын
These are sports/ muscle cars. People buy them to go in fast, stop light intimidation, or to recapture their youth. The problem people have is that the r/t can get beat by a v6 mustang. They are no where near a 5.0 level, yet the price is the same. To get comparable performance you have shop the srt8 but that can price in to the high 40s.... not everyone races per say but the people who cross shop these cars will look at price per power ratio. That's why the majority of people choose Ford or Chevy.

these cars are nice for folks interested in nostalgic looks, but not lack performance compared to the current competition (because they are the heaviest of the muscle cars). The 6.1 liter engine (or 6.4? I forget) isn't very affordable - and that's the only engine that can keep up with the competitors. Ford's 5.0 liter nearly makes the same power as the 6.1 and gets better mileage.

Hmm driver is a little slow...especially off launch...my '14 bone stock Challenger R/T was able to pull 6.0 in the same weather conditions...the dash meter is more accurate as it is tied onto the speedometer...and I was able to get a 5.8 in the third run turning the traction control off...warmer tires with better grip would easily get on or about 5 in stock tune...

I love the look of the new challengers, but performance-wise they just don't hold a candle to the camaro and mustang.. Even the v6 pony cars stomp the R/T. They really need to do something about the weight issue, it's a tank.. 3.90's would make a huge difference in the auto 5 speed, but since gas mileage is terrible in the R/T to begin with, just imagine what it would be with 3.90's!

who cares about mustangs? they're ugly live-axle shit for guidos and have a cheap chinese transmission. R/T is a real man's car. for bashing and cruising in style and comfort. I see plenty of R/Ts running mid12s.

Now listen to all the fanboys to swear its faster. 6.1-6.2 sec is spot on. Heres what I dont like about the challenger its the same as it was back in 09. No improvements. Camaro and mustang continue to improve while dodge just sits there content on being old. 5yrs and no changes. They need to reduce weight improve hp & mpg. My 09 gets 16mpg combined. 0-60 for me is 5.4 sec thanks to a CAI & exhaust. Its a great ride but they need to break the tune so you can squeeze more out of the 5.7 hemi. Its the biggest out of the big 3 and the most pricy. With gas prices going up im trading this in for awd & 4 doors & better mpg but the same speed. W R X !

My 2.0 litre 4 cyl Genesis coupe will match those times and gets twice the gas mileage with cheaper insurance!

The Regular Cab hemi 8 speed is just as fast if not faster my challenger rt did a 13.8 in the 1/4 mile I seen a 4 door hemi 8 speed all stock on a hotter day it ran a 14.01 With 20 in rim no less someone at dodge did something wrong the pickup has more horsepower better transmission in with the regular cab the weight can't be too far off

Zero to sixty runs depend on this 2014 Challenger R/T's gearing. You can get a 3.06, 3.73 or as in my 2013 Challenger R/T Classic 3.92 gears.
