That's not true! It is a complex issue that is not all the doing of the British Govt. It has a lot to do with the Nepalese Govt and their economy as well many other factors. Just Google a question about Gurkha pensions and benefits and see what comes back.

How do they keep up that speed? Awesome.
@kimberleyelizabethbailes-ql9qkАй бұрын
My thoughts are that traditionally they are not very tall so they have shorter legs therefore strides taken are smaller and are able to move faster. Hopefully someone may know how they manage
@peterbrown1012Ай бұрын
All the Rifle regiments march at that speed, it stems from when light infantry regiments wete formed and they marched at a faster pace to get to the battle quicker, they would march at this pace and fight a battle at the end. On a side not, Rifle regiments carried rifles which were shorter than muskets, so they carried a sword bayonet which was longer so it Brought it up to the same length as a musket with bayonet, to this day Rifle regiments fix swords instead of bayonets.

@davidtaylor2978Ай бұрын
Just check the pace on Google and this is the answer, "Rifle regiments including the Gurkhas march at 140paces a minute. This is traditional, like so many things in the British Army, because light infantry troops were expected to move faster than normal infantry".
@user-suzuchanАй бұрын
The tempo was so fast that I nearly became out of breath.😅
@markrandall7631Ай бұрын
I think they march at light infantry pace 140 beats per minute and are probably the only light infantry to retain this. Whereas 120 beats per minute for regular infantry.
