That Philando Castile re-enactment at the end was very well done, that is word for word exactly how it happened. I am white, and I have a license to carry, and I have been stopped dozens of times by police and each and every time I have informed them I had a gun and in fact sometimes I even got in arguments and debates with the police when they pulled me over, yet I was never under threat of fire. Philando Castile did exactly what he was supposed to, to the T, even better than me to be honest, yet he was still killed. I think the word racist triggers people and turns their mind off from critical thinking, so I hate using it. But if you don't think that as a collective society we have to re-evaluate our own ingrained sterotypes then you just aren't thinking. It is clear as day that their is a problem with how minorities are viewed and treated in this country. That isn't to say every cop is a hood wearing racist, but it is to say that being Black or Hispanic in America means people will have a label for you before they even speak to you and we all have to acknowledge that, it's human nature. I am an old man turning 59 next year, teenagers scare the piss out of me. If I see a group of kids walking toward me I get on edge sometimes because of the stories I hear about gangs and robberies. So i tend to avoid them or be on guard around groups of teens. That doesn't mean I hate teenagers and I'm ageist. I am sure 99% of those kids that scare me are wonderful nice people, but all human's label other people it is instinct and how the brain works to identify danger even if there is none. The problem comes when people aren't trained to control that fear, and that is the problem with police these days, they are all too scared and no one has trained them on how to control their fear

Thank you for taking the time out to post this, I enjoyed reading this. I'm younger (20) but it was really refreshing to see someone older also feel pretty similar about re-evaluating our current society. A lot of people online my age like to use hateful speech (racial slurs, especially the n word) with the intent of shock humor instead of racial stigma, especially in video games. it's offensive, tiring, and even overused yet I don't think these people realize the weight of what they're saying and that's where I find a lot of trouble working through. If you call them racist they will say they're only being funny, but no one is laughing.

The problem I have with some of the arguments about the Castile case is that we don't have a view into the car as it happened. I liked this episode because it didn't go down the easy route of having Adam just giving his position on gun control and saying why the other side is wrong. Tigger Anakalea that comment was dumb the cop was scared from the jump. A trained officer who had a gun on him from when he asked for his license and registration. That makes sense to you? By law you took an oath to Protect and Serve, you’re trained to analyze a situation how is it that you’re shaking and fearing for your life more than I am? That doesn’t make sense. The problem is it takes 6 months to become an officer, they give anyone with a clean record the job. Because all they care about is numbers. That doesn’t make sense to me 6 months when it takes 4 years to get a cosmetology license. That makes sense?

@@blessed7817 Well considering they have 6 months of training we have a shockingly low amount of shootings no? In a population of almost 300 million only 660 were killed by police officers. Considering we have one of the largest criminal population on earth thats pretty good. These incidents while horrible are standouts and carry little importance. Im not saying to ignore it im just saying to think and see another angle. Hes shaking because there are people who shoot cops and because there is no good place to stand when approaching a car that matches a description of one that has a gun in it. There are kinks but its going fine statistically. Basically cops are statistacally better than average, doing a good job, and when they are in bad situation bad things happen occasionally. I would say that it's a mix of direct & indirect racism. I see most gun control laws in the US as inherently classist. However, the class system was also designed to be racist in this country after Reconstruction. So yes, but with caveats.

@@spencerferrier3857 Elaborate on how gun control laws are "inherently classist". Even if they were, that's another good reason to do away with them, especially since "common sense gun control" is touted by people who have no common sense or experience regarding firearms...

@@icorrectly all laws are classist. The elite don’t operate in the same world we have to. Jeffrey Epstein was murdered and everyone knows it, and yet no ones even been labeled as a suspect. The rich and powerful do as they please, just as they always have.
@icorrectly3 жыл бұрын
@@Prince_Luci I mean, we don't know for sure he was murdered, though it seems to be the case. That aside, just because you're rich doesn't mean you're going to get away with breaking laws. It has more to do with who you know, so I'd say it's a matter of individual instances of corruption/nepotism, not some overarching, generalized classism. More needs to be done to hold people who think they're above the system, and corrupt/feckless/activist judges accountable. Gun control is definitely oppressive though, whether proponents realize it or not, and it actually harms people who tend to be defending themselves from people of lower class status, so that would seem to be the opposite of what you claim, though, ultimately, it's allowed by people in power who fear an armed populace, but I don't think it can all be blamed on class.

Nobody left "black people" out of the gun debate. The whole header is racist and here is why. People who choose to stay uneducated about some things or are ignorant about it but they aren't all black. A debate about rather gun laws effect black people isn't a good debate at all. The debate should be about rather uneducated people are more likely to brake the law and or carry a unregistered firearm. Adding race is trying to bait the topic to suit the community or culture and politics. The gun debate is open to all and every perspective to help the scope of the laws and protect the people who abide by them. By stating black people are left out of the debate is to say that black lives essentially don't matter which is a false narrative wielded by the left to make a blanket statement to frame liberals and conservatives right leaners as racist. You.... are the real racist.
@Maxisamo15 жыл бұрын
@@skotttownzend5170 The point of the video is that the NRA and other Pro-Gun people are silent whenever innocent black men like Filando Castile are shot and killed by police because of the mere mentioning of them having a gun. It's not that black people aren't the center of any discussions, it's that they're completely ignored and are never fought for. These groups will defend any white guy with a gun, but as soon as it's a black guy they don't say shit. That doesn't make me a racist because I care more about black gun owners than you. Nice try dumbass
@terminalva5 жыл бұрын
NRA supported the Mulford Act in 1967, which affected black gun owners largely in CA, exclusively the BPP. One reason I won't support the NRA as well as they have left their overall constituency to fend for themselves while anti-gun opportunistic politicians work overtime to strip away 2A rights from the law-abiding by exploiting tragedies where some lone person with ill intent decides to take lives at will. This usually happens in largely gun-free spaces.

In my opinion the second amendment would only make sense if the US had a compulsory military service like in Switzerland, all citizens serve in the military and everyone gets to keep their standard issued rifle after the service. The only oroblem with a system like that is that corporations wouldn't be able to use the military as their private tool for their goals.
@shooterqqqq4 жыл бұрын
The NRA was a rifle organization prior to 1973. The NRA could not lobby anyone or anything prior to that. In 1973, the NRA created Institute for Legislative Action, the ILA. That allowed the ILA to lobby in Washington. Don't get your information from non-members. They aren't invited to the party.

The incident was all about a cop who was poorly trained and panicked. Our law enforcement needs better training, this tragedy could have been utterly avoided if the officer had chosen his words more carefully and handled the situation more calmly. I really do not like how the video, as a conversation about race, did not mention the race of the officer. To the uninformed viewer, they automatically think it was black vs white violence. The officer was Hispanic. His lawyer was white but has a history of defending people of color, including a man who opened fire on law enforcement who had entered his home without announcing themselves. He won that case, too.

tifforo1 Which I do think a person should have a right to defend themselves or others, anywhere at anytime. Or defending your property. But I think because of the way our legal system is skewed against people to such a degree, trying to help others is more hassle than it’s worth, and even if it’s just you, and you do live, you’re likely to be the one to go to prison..... for self defense, or simply wanting to protect yourself and your property. It is just mindblowing at how many people don’t think we should have those rights.
@ZebraPants236 жыл бұрын
I dont think so. It varys per state but im pretty sure stand your ground only covers ur home, car, and in oklahoma, your church
@trickydick29096 жыл бұрын
Stand your ground eliminates the duty to retreat. In other words, it used to be considered unjustified use of deadly force if you shot a person when you could have safely escaped the situation whereas now you are justified to shoot so long as you feel your life is in danger. It sounds ok on paper but it creates a lot of situations where self-appointed vigilantes take it upon themselves to open fire in crowded places to stop a shoplifter or something like that. Also, it allows people to put their own pride above others lives in that it allows people to shoot even when they had the chance to just get away.
@trickydick29096 жыл бұрын
@@Medowokha-bp5lq All I did was explain how Stand Your Ground laws lower the legal bar for the use of lethal force which in turn leads to situations where shots are fired when violence could have reasonably been avoided. This broadening the scope of what is considered self defense is literally the intent of the law. Saying so is neither fear mongering nor malicious.
